TMZ Sports reported that 34-year-old William Jenkins is not currently a suspect in the case.
According to jail records obtained by TMZ Sports, William was arrested in upstate New York hours before Rene’s body was discovered at his brother’s Fair Lawn home.
It appears William was busted for an unrelated parole warrant issue, according to the outlet, which reported that William will be extradited from Ontario County to Bergen County.
on a suspect. In a murder case you probably want to err on the side of caution anyway, whether a person is a potential triggerman, a potential accessory, or whatnot. But trying to conduct something less formal, without Miranda, is certainly a reasonable tactic and, if done well, is both permissible and effective.

can you merge the threads? what powers do you have?
I think you can argue either way if this needs its own thread.
A suspect does.
A suspect does.
I thought you had to be under arrest to be Mirandized.

Neither one is really true. The necessity of Miranda is situation-dependent.

If you want to question a person you identified as a 'suspect', and you conduct a custodial interrogation, you have to Mirandize him.
