I believe that there used to be a gentlemen's agreement among the teams that they would not send scouts to other teams' training camps.
I'm not sure how many owners are still gentlemen, so they are limiting public viewing to the first few practices to prevent spying. (That means You, "Little Bill.")

Marty, as long as it's free you can't have other teams personnel there. Dan Snyder made that gaffe a few years back, he started charging for admission which allowed teams to send scouts which teams did. It's expressly forbidden to send team personnel to free practices.
With as little practice time as teams get, I'm fine with making training camp less of a spectacle. That's the point of the year where they should be the most busy with preparation. Training camp is a sprint. There's barely any time.
My kids got to meet several players over the years -
We just happened to spot Eli (year 2 or 3) walking across the parking lot by the athletic facility, my daughter, who was about 7 at the time, yelled out "Hello Eli Manning", he turned and gave a big wave and smile, made her day.
We have several signed mini footballs from the training camp days.
One year, Tom Coughlin came over and talked to us for a few minutes, which was fun.
When my son was about 4 he broke his arm, fell off a jungle gym. That August at camp, every player signed his cast, including Kerry Collins, Strahan, Tiki, Ike.
Unfortunately, like many casts, the thing smelled awful and we threw it out.
Following the 2007 Superbowl win, Pat Hanlon had the Lombardi trophy and also a Superbowl ring at the "Cross the Street Pub" prior to the opening of training camp.
Fan's lined up for pictures. I still have a great shot of my kids with the Superbowl ring on and also holding the Lombardi.
...to Albany!
Loved it up there!!!
If you went back 15 years if you timed it right you could go up for 5 days and see 9 practices.
You should go to 19 practices

This is why the "voluntary" offseason workouts are so important. And thank goodness we will be practicing against the Lions.
Worse than PSLs and the construction of MetLife.

If the Giants go winless we know who to blame :)
