Almost every year in early June before it gets too busy. I am a typical tourist and hang around Thames St. I really like The Mooring and Midtown Oyster bar. I love the Brick Alley Pub.
already made, Black Pearl has the best chowder and The Mooring has all around great food.
I like the Landing for drinks.
My high school hockey teammate owns Gas Lamp Grille, I've heard good things, but I've never eaten there.
tons of shopping and bars in Newport too.
In Providence if you want drinks/pub fare Trinity Brew House is cool. I think it's still all their own beer if you like that kind of thing.
and if you want a meal, Federal Hill is Providence's Little Italy.
So many good spots.
Siena or Joe Marzillis the only ones I've been to recently.
If you decide to go to the beach, and you're planning to go to Providence Narragansett beaches are better than Newport so head over the bridge from Newport, go to Narrangansett beach (get there early, the lots fill up) for the day then head to providence for happy hour (trinity) and dinner (federal hill) then go back to Newport for some ice cream and drinks/nightlife.
Is great right next to Black Pearl. Benjamin’s has the cheapest oysters. There is town parking on Mary St. Malt is a good place on upper Broadway if downtown is too crowded. Also Norey’s next door. Great beer selections at both. Mansions, Ocean Drive. Both Safari Room and Castle Hill overlook the harbor and have spectacular views. Pasta Beach is a favorite up on Memorial.
Gonna be 90+ in PVD, and mid/upper 80s in Nwpt.
Lots of eateries, and if you do Waterfire, the walk from Atwells Ave(a.k.a.Federal Hill) restaurants will burn off some of the delicious calories, and generally easy since it is a gradually downhill walk.
Enjoy.

I live in Newport.
If you like night life try the Gas Lamp Grill, Noreys or Pour Judgement. I play in bands that play these places.
Clarke Cook House is a great restaurant. Also like Mama Louisa's for italuan food.
First beach is always crowded, costs $10(?) to park in summer and gets nasty smelling with red tide. If want a secluded and cleaner beach experience you'll find a tiny one below the parking lot at Castle Hill. It's a fairly steep but only 100-or-so foot climb down the rocks to the beach or you can take the dirt trail (also available from the parking lot) to the lighthouse and over the Rocky shore to the same beach (less than a mile walk total for this route).
Or just get a drink at the hotel and watch the sunset.
Interesting place to spend an hour or two. When I went, Dick Enberg, long time Wimbledon announcer, was browsing the place. Spend more time in Newport than Providence.
how is gas lamp grille? I mentioned above a buddy of mine from high school is the owner, but I've never been. Always have something else planned before we go.
I haven't seen him in a while, but we talk every now and then. He's tried to get me to come to his charity golf tournament the past couple years, but it hasn't worked out.

I got married in Newport. love it there.
Hey pjcas.
Gas Lamp is great by me. My bands have gigs there on the 21st and 28th and in August also!
Grab a bite on Atwells Street beforehand.

Great HH/shopping anywhere along the waterfront. Chowder at the Black pearl or 22 Bowens. Beaches and mansion tours are main attractions.
