total mis-match for linebackers all season.

OBJ demands double teaming when healthy.
Engram will have safeties assigned to cover him but many will struggle.
Barkley will be catching a lot of balls this year because he can't be covered play in and play out by virtually 90% of linebackers or more???

We have 3 "elite" players that require special attention. A great defense can "slow us down" maybe but overall, if Shurmur is as good as I believe he is, we'll find ways to spread the ball around to the open guy - the MISMATCH.

The key is for the OL to give Eli time; for the play calling to be vastly improved from last year's WC McAdoo doo style; and, we gotta stay healthy on offense.

Oh, and I forgot to bring Shepard into the "slot WR" role where he'll catch many balls as well. We could have a very good passing offense if we stay healthy through camp.

I'm also praying for a 2 - 0 start. My biggest FEAR for this year is that we start "slow" as players are learning a whole new system and that costs us dearly. A strong start would be a great first step to having a winning record and getting back to the playoffs. Woot Woot!

I pray for world peace every day, especially in these trying days. LOL.

Look, the JAGS are quite possibly the best team in the AFC. But is it possible that we could surprise them? Of course.

As for Dallas, my brother is a big Cowboy fan and he says they will use a strong run game and careful passing game on offense (don't turn it over). On defense, he says they have a lot of young players they believe in and they will step up. All conjecture, sure, but if the Giants can keep Zeke in check on the ground (our D's strength will be run defense not pass), well, again, maybe we get lucky.

An 0 - 2 start would suck (learning curve losses) cause that means we have to likely win 10 of the next 14 games and our schedule doesn't look easy.

I was listening to a sports talk radio show years ago. I believe it was Kenny Mayne who either had his own show or was filling in for someone else, just before a big ND football game.

At one point a caller proclaimed, "I talked to God and he said that Notre Dame was going to win by two TDs."

To which Mayne replied..."You had a chance to speak to God and you asked him who was going to win a football game?"

Meh I wouldn't be shocked if we beat Jax at home, and not skeered of a mediocre 9-7 Dallas with an overrated qb.

This league is basically whoever gets hot for a year in the NFC vs Pats for SB.
With all due respect to Shepard ...

I think Barkley is already the best slot receiver on the team.

Lining him, just off the line (or in motion) is almost criminal.

I remember when teams triple covered Steve Smith at times. I would prefer Smith over Cruz on a 3rd and short. A good slot/h-back is virtually uncoverable.

And so on third and +4 if you're smart you line both Shep and Barkley in the left and right slots, one running out and one running in . Ellison providing extra blocking on the line. Defense overloads to stop a Barkley screen. Unless the target guy drops the ball that's a sure 1st down. Hard to imagine a LB getting to Barkley or Shep before they get 4 yards in that scenario.

You can't do this every time but it it should be lethal when unexpected.

I find this whole concept of Shepard as an afterthought to be silly. Nothing in this guy's performance suggests that he can't grow into a staple within the Giants success. The focus and glory will go to Beckham, Barkley and Engram, but when they are matched up Shepard is dangerous as hell. And playing behind these guys he's going to take every touch to his max. I just don't see how Shepard isn't considered a vital cog in the wheels turning smoothly. Just sayin'.

And, defenses can't give all of them the attention that they deserve. I have a feeling Shepard is going to find himself wide open a few times this season because defenses are (will be) cheating towards the other guys .... I believe that he and Eli will exploit that situation as it presents itself. Shepard may have his most productive year this season (because he will be ignored by the defense at times) ... even with the addition of Barkley.

I am trying not to get to excited about the Giant's offense's potential this early (I feel like I am going to jinx them) ... and set myself up for disappointment. Can't help it though. : )

Don t know why, but I fully expect the Giants to beat the Jags to start this season

There s going to be much positive energy in that stadium and I think the Jags might begin the season not quite certain how to handle their new status of a team expected to win.

As to the Cowboys, Giants normall play well there giving them chance to win.

I am still bothered by their opening day loss in Dallas Coughlin s final year.

What a horrible loss

Obviously, who the hell knows, but as soon as Barkley was drafted and with Shurmur as PC, i felt we were winning the opener. Zero doubt in MY mind

last year the top RB for receptions over 20 yards was Gurley with 12. Expect Barkley to exceed that.

The Jags and Cowboys are completely beatable, plus we play Dallas every year so we know them well.

I will never understand the football fan's persistent belief, year after year, that the teams that were good last year are going to be good this year.

Have you not been watching football for the last 20 years? Half the playoff teams from last year won't make the playoffs.

This one here ^ is even more of a conundrum considering that Dallas wasn't very good last year, and Jacksonville hasn't yet shown an ability to maintain success (and history shows that's far from a certainty).

Remember last year when you geniuses had Dallas and the Giants as SuperBowl contenders? It seems that once again we have learned no lessons, just like every year.

Moral of the story: Tallying up wins and losses and sure things, and discussing what's a miracle or not a miracle at this point is fucking foolish.

I don't know.

You don't know.

They can do more than run screens with Saquon. He was considered the fourth best RECEIVER prospect in this draft, if he were solely considered a WR

Maybe? Possible? Who knows? but having Barkley will definitely add a wrinkle to this offense we’ve lacked for a while, and take some pressure off the other targets we have.
