I missed that at first. Prices were skyrocketing around Christmas when this was released. Then they were all gone, yet I still saw similar packages for Sega and Atari in Target stores.
You can add the entire library of NES games if you are ok slightly bending the rules...
I would wait a couple days for them to verify the new hardware plays nice with the hack/software. This might help.... - ( New Window )
Thanks for the info. Spent about 15-20 minutes over the weekend and was very easy to mod.
Main games I wanted was Contra, Double Dribble and Super Tecmo Bowl. Plus I added the original Mike Tyson's Punch Out, didn't like that "Mr. Dream" crap because of licencing issues.

Good to know, is the video really straight forward and easy to follow? Do you need to hook it up to wifi or a computer to download?
But if they found a way to get Sega '94 into the NES Classic there I would have paid double.
I loved Blades of Steel (other than the annoying song that stuck in my head), but Sega '94 and '96, best hockey games ever.
Get a raspberry pi and install retropie. You can emulate any system you want so you can get NES blades of steel and Sega NHL 94 into the same box. link - ( New Window )

Pretty straight to follow. There is no WiFi on the NES Classic, so once hacked, no worries about any updates bricking the unit later on.
You just need to make sure you have the current version of the Hakchi software for your device. The new NES Classic released last week needs a new version of Hakchi than the NES Classic released over a year ago.
Then search Reddit and find a download of the NES library (zipped files of between 450-600 NES Classic games).
What the videos linked about any they'll help you with the rest. You can even download mods to play old Gameboy (b&W and color) games on your NES Classis.
They sell cables the split the USB charging cable to add an external hard drive to load all the game. Personally, I only want to play a core of 30-40 games between the NES, SNES and Gameboys, so those are the only ones I'm going to load on the system and won't need a external hard drive.

Nostalgia rules, I guess.
No tecmo super bowl, but regular tecmo.
Plus super mario 1, 2 and 3, Donkey Kong, DK jr, Pac Man, Punch Out, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Galaga, etc.
Well worth it.
I feel like Uncle Eddie in Vacation.
One of my kids friends is going to ask them:
"do you have NES Classic?"
And my kids are going to have to say:
"no, but my dad does"
LOL.
No, unfortunately.

It's not so much me, it's Roenick, he's good.
I'm going to make Gretzky's head bleed for superfan #99 over here.

Mikey, is he cute? Is he brown? Would he like to join us for a cocktail? Is he polite? Is he clean? Have him take off his shoes

The biggest insult you could same to someone after that game was:
"will you practice this when I'm not here"
Breakfasts come and go, Renee, but Hartford? The Whale? They only beat Vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.

The look on Mikey's face, so classic.
I hacked my Wii and loaded over 150 games on an external HD. I'm sure I'll hack this device sooner or later to add more games.
The three I really want are Contra, Double Dribble and Super Tecmo Bowl (much better than the Tecmo Bowl that comes with the unit).
NES: As mentioned Contra, Double Dribble (loved the explosion sound on 3s & dunks iirc), I'd add Zelda & Excitebike

It took little to no time to actually load the roms onto the system. Thanks to whoever posted that.

Gotcha, thanks! I'll be doing this soon
