Tiki encouraging Saquan

River Mike : 6/29/2018 10:02 am
"So does Barber want Barkley to break his records, including his rookie records?

Im not going to put that pressure on him," Barber said. "I want him to be successful one game at a time, one year at a time. If he is and he stays healthy, I told him, Youll break them all.

Hard to come up with a better response in reaction to Saquan tellin him he was going to break all of Tiki's records

There are enough really bad people
River Mike : 6/29/2018 4:04 pm : link
lately to keep my ire well occupied, Tiki is not one of them. He appears to have been self centered as are many athletes. I will not condone or support those things that many have pointed out, but balanced against what he provided to the Giants and their fans, and in consideration of a reasonable statute of limitation, I'm glad to see him back, and if he's changed for the good, so much the better.

And never really heard an answer - how is a mild criticism of Eli Manning "selling the Giants down the river"?

Greg,

It was never just about Eli. He made comments like that the whole time he was on the team. He went public in favor of management talking about other players contracts. He threw coaches under the bus frequently during and after his career. In the end I don't think a lot of it bothered fans until he retired as the comments always seemed to be about bettering the team. However, post career those same types of comments came off as bettering himself.
Im not a Tiki hater
Coach Red Beaulieu : 6/29/2018 4:31 pm : link
But the difference between him and LT is LT doesn't pretend to be something he's not, Tiki be mad fronting yo.

And i realize We all unequivocally love Strahan, but he has done a netter job of fronting, all indications are Strahan is the bigger self centered prima donna.

I thought Strahan was at times a first class prick.

Since retirement, he has been totally supportive of the Giants and Iirc, he has never thrown any Giant under the bus..Now, when he was playing, thats a different story altogether
I'll never forgive Tiki!

I had him and Ricky Williams in my keeper league :(

Damn thunder and lightning two headed kraken!
Saquon can learn plenty from Tiki ....
Manny in CA : 6/29/2018 5:48 pm : link

Recall how the Eagles' Brain Westbrook ( a very good player, himself) was always begging Tiki to work-out with him.

Tiki actually got better with age (even as his natural talent diminished). This is what Westbrook recognized.

I remember one of the things that Tiki shared - Always try to not have your feet in the ground when tackled - this prevents undue torque (protecting your knees, legs, ankles .....

Like I said, Tom insisted on Tiki taking hits - Tiki disagreed bitterly.

The most amazing thing that Tiki mastered ....
Manny in CA : 6/29/2018 6:37 pm : link

In his "declining years" was the art of the cut-back run. He worked hard with his fullback Jim Finn, to achieve much success with that play.

Tiki had the highest regard for him ...

https://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/11/sports/football/giants-finn-is-the-anonymous-blocking-back.html

"He is the unsung, anonymous guy that I depend on for a lot of my success," said Barber, who followed Finn for many of his career-best 1,518 yards last season, and 760 halfway through this one. (2005) "He's an extension of me."

Hopefully, Barkley can reprise that type of relationship on the gridiron with present FB Shane Smith.

Barkly has tons more ability than Tiki ever had, and if he's 1/2 as smart - he will be amazing.

I hope Saquon is as good as Tiki

on the field. I hope he is not as much of a wild scumbag off it.
One day a long time ago

Tiki behind a shitty Oline took the hand off to what was the equivalent of 24 dive da halfback takes the handoff runs between the guard and tackle on da right 🏈.....Well one day Tiki took that handoff right as usual there was nothing there but as he got hit and knocked back Tiki saw that the defense in the nfl over pursues so looking back left across the field no defenders Tiki Cuts back and da rest is history ......... I could care less what he did with his women and marriages and Ive seen many a woman just as much dickhead as him destroying guys ....... Tiki heck of a player

Personal life was littered with questionable decisions, yet he is loved here.

Tiki, not so much the latter. One guy criticized Eli, the other did not.
It's SAQUON not SAQUAN.
VinegarPeppers : 6/30/2018 1:03 pm : link
I've made the mistake myself but we have to get it right. Unless we just go with Saquads.

I don't think there is a chance on earth that Saquon loses his humility and character. The kid is a wonderful role model.

That's was exactly what I'm talking about.

To a lessor extent, Ahmad Bradshaw was successful doing the same thing. Difference with him is that he bought in to the between-the-tackles things and became a ferocious runner, inside.

On a related note, I have no idea how much zone blocking we'll have this year, but I know that Barkley with that type of blocking could be a terror.
Thinking about Tikis career, if Gary Brown had not had his accident,
Ivan15 : 7/1/2018 11:12 am : link
do you think Tiki would have been stuck behind Brown for another season or two? Brown had a good season rushing in 1998.

By the way, Brown is the Dallas RBcoach and apparently in demand around the league.

He was an amazing player, the best running back we've had. But he was a huge dick. It isn't primarily that he did bad things--LT did bad things too. But LT wasn't a huge dick.

The thing that first bothered me about Tiki hasn't even been mentioned in this discussion--when he criticized Strahan in his 2002 contract negotiations. On a personal level, I could only imagine trying to get a raise at work, and some asshole starts talking out loud about how you are being greedy, and you should accept the company's offer, AND he's saying this deliberately loud enough for the boss to hear to make himself look good. That is a dick move.

Tiki would go on to make many more dick moves. It didn't mean I didn't root for him when he was playing for us. But once he wasn't playing for us, he made the separation between himself and the team quite clear in ways that other Giants never did.

Maybe what made Tiki a great player was his unceasing focus on himself. Maybe that helped him to achieve his great stats. In the end though, after everything, great stats weren't enough to endear Tiki to most Giants fans. They knew he was a dick and treated him appropriately.

I had to log on to agree. The cat is self serving. Nuff said.
ok, this just pisses me off...

...WTF does "I could care less," even mean?

You care a little?

You have a list of things that you care less about?

oh, and get your emotions in check.
Joey for the win.

Why is it so important to like (or dislike) them as people? We enjoy their crafts and special talents on the field of play. But we certainly dont need to have that carry over to their personal lives.

If you need a role model or someone to admire, look towards your family members and friends...
