Does anyone else believe that the majority of these deals are already done and all the reports and rumors are purely for entertainment purposes? The league gets all this coverage and fans love it. But I feel like a lot of it is preordained and the reporters go along with it.
Lebrons on vacation right now jumping off cliffs. He really doesn’t know where he’s going? Same for the other big FAs. It’s not like baseball where there’s no cap. These guys know what’s being offered money and length wise. Bogut even tweeted something out saying this.

Obviously him opting out frees cap space.
But him opting in is a one year deal, traceable at the deadline.
Probably helps more than anything. They weren't going to have room to sign a significant free agent this offseason anyway, and now they at least retain some hope (as little as it may be) that they can flip Kanter for a draft pick at the deadline.
On one hand, Kanter opting in limits our cap space. I agree with what others have posited in that we're not likely an attractive destination for a big fish this year. Next year is an entirely different story. That being said, I've seen some say on other threads/board that this is good because it prevents the Knicks from being "the Knicks" and overpaying a mediocre guy. I disagree and think that this group of management should be given a chance to prove themselves without the reputation of their predecessors.
On the other hand, if he did/does opt out, then it will be fun to see what we do with that extra money. I like Kanter. Not sure if the current/future state of the NBA really needs a guy like him, but we're not winning a Chip in the next two years anyway.
willing to give him a long term deal at something close to what he's making. But, given his defensive limitations, he'll have a hard time finding such a team.
Steve Mills runs the Knicks and he's proven himself over and over. Most recently giving THJ 71 million and Ron Baker 12 million. He's an empty suit. I know Scott Perry wasn't there for those contracts. But his record in Orlando & Sacramento speaks for itself too.

Perry’s prints are all over the Zach Randolph, Vince Carter and George Hill signings. Similarly, his was a loud voice in the war room before and during the draft, and, according to several Kings officials, he was a strong advocate of De’Aaron Fox, the Kentucky point guard who was selected fifth overall.

Yikes. What Scott Perry taught Kings before taking dream job with Knicks - ( New Window )
It’s hilarious how overstated the “bringing in vets to teach the young guys” philosophy is. It’s one thing bringing in solid players to contribute to winning and taking pressure off young kids. It’s completely another thing to bring in over the hill players at high that soak up minutes and bloat the cap sheet. As if their skills magically transfer through osmosis, or as if the coaching staff and trainers don’t already work on whatever skills they need to work on. Len and Chriss haven’t learned jack shit from Tyson chandler. Jerryd Bayless has probably been learning PG skills from McConnell and Simmons. Perry better have left that crap back in SAC.
Warriors are going to try to sign Deandre Jordan Â
they will naturally start improving due to young guys getting better, and they just added Doncic who might very well be their best player. So I can see him wanting to be at least somewhat competitive if the team has graduated out of the bottom 5.

so, I have no problem with this. Guy loves NY.
Wouldn't mind taking a shot on Hezonja if they could get him for around $6 mil per year. I think he will be much better outside of Orlando.
perry was in sacramento for a week
Yikes.
