This team desperately needs another big time starter for the playoffs. Gray should not even start a playoff game.
And these short porches really suck ass sometimes. Devers was shocked that ball went out. That's on Gray though. None on with two outs and it turns into this horse shit. He needs to fuck off.
but I almost hope Boone keeps Gray in regardless of how bad he is. Don’t waste the pen right now, make him sleep in his shit. Can’t wait until he’s off the team.
and find out what he can do, or if he turned the corner, then you aren’t doing your job as a manager/GM. We all think he sucks but he’s on the team and we need to know what we’ve got before the deadline and playoffs. Losing the game sucks, but there are positives that can come out of it.
I have yet to see him pitch a good game. I’m done watching that experiment. Hope they can trade him in a package for even a short term vet that can at least provide 5 innings. At this point gray can’t even do that. If they are stuck with him use him to start alternating starts b/w German and Loaisiga cause they will need those guys this season.
He just looks like the type of player that any handle pressure nor an audience. Maybe some small market team will take him, hope we get anything serviceable back in return. At his point I don’t care he is a complete waste of a roster spot.
If he continues to spit the bit, I think the Yanks need to find him a new home and turn inward. One of the big problems the Yanks have run into with SP in recent years is that the guys they bring in as FA or in trades really have not been able to cut it. I think CC was the last real success they had in that area.
My suggestion would be to follow the route that they HAVE been successful with- using their OWN SP. Montgomery saved them last year. German has been mostly good this season. Loaisiga has flashed ability, though he probably needs to go back to the minors and work on building IP for next year.
I think if Gray can't figure it out, it is time to give Sheffield a shot. His upside is huge and he really seems to be on a roll in AAA.
I am now firmly in the "don't make a trade for a SP" camp- the track record just isn't good there.
Yankees are in trouble behind the plate if Romine is going to miss time, you can’t have a caree .191 hitter in the minor leagues behind the plate and a guy who is 0-21 in the majors Higashioka stinks, I said it the other day yankees has Kratz and gave him away to Milwaukee.
RE: If you aren’t going to pitch Gray against Boston Â

Find out what he can do?// he’s been terrible against Boston dating back to his days in Oakland , and here is how he had done against them this year, 5 innings pitched 14 hits, 13 runs, his start last night was simular to the one he had back in April in Boston, this guy is a bum and should never see the mound again against the Red Sox

Then he needs to not play for the Yankees anymore. You can’t hide a guy from a division rival and likely playoff opponent. If they can’t get it worked out with him, which is one of he reasons he pitches yesterday, then he should be traded or released.
Oh please we can score 4, don’t care if it’s Sale. But Gray is complete trash

Thanks Sonny!
Thanks Sonny!
That looked belt high, but off the plate by quite a bit.
Thinking the same thing
Kaprelian hasn't pitched in 2 years.
Mateo has a 600 OPS in the Pacific Coast League.
Sonny Gray wasn't even worth Dustin Fowler by himself.
Not sure what happened to him but he hasn't been close to that with the Yankees.
Gosh, this guy sucks.

Yeah. Very strange. Sad part is when they do get rid of him and he goes to another team he will be fine. Ed Whitson II.
It didn't appear to matter what Romine called, and Gray wasn't waving him off, so I'd guess he just doesn't have a go to pitch.

- Carl Pavano
- Jaret Wright
- Jeff Weaver
- Hideki Irabu
Just for reference... Sonny Gray's YS ERA is also worse than Kei Igawa's (only 7 starts).
What a shitshow.
Checking in late here and just looked at the box score - cue the Surfaris, let's hear some "Wipe Out" ...
Just fuckin' wonderful.
“I feel like we’re the best team in baseball four out of five days, and then I go out and do that. It just sucks.” - Sonny Gray
Now do something about it.
...experiment, debacle, mess-up (or whatever else you want to call it) was finally over.
I'm pretty sure we have half a dozen minor league pitchers who could perform just as well.
Can't we just cut him?
Just fuckin' wonderful.
On the plus side, if the Yanks are forced to play Kyle Higashioka every day, he's bound to get his first MLB hit at some point.
;>)

He’s terrible, how he is even in the organization is mind blowing
