NFT: Anybody offer services on Upwork, Fiverr, etc.?

AcidTest : 6/30/2018 9:54 pm
Does anybody offer their services on Upwork, Fiverr, or a similar site? I am thinking about doing so to try and generate some extra income as a freelance writer, editor, and proofreader.

The problem is that both websites have many poor reviews. Many sellers complain that buyers want constant revisions and additional work or they will leave a poor review. The websites also have very high fees. Fiverr charges 20% of every transaction. Upwork also charges 20% of the first $500, but less as more work is billed. Fiverr is also located overseas in Israel. Freelancer requires sellers to download and use a desktop app to track hours and work completed.

The problem with what you specifically want to do there

Is that you will have to bid about 10% of what you think is fair to even be in consideration for the job.

I legitimately believe that you would do a fine job there, but you have people overseas (some masquerading as being domestic) willing to do the work cor pennies on the dollar. People still use their wallets.

In my opinion unless you are ULTRA specialized in a needy field there is no way to make consistent supplemental income.
Go for it

I’ve hired a number of content writers from Upwork. They wrote blog posts. They were all in the US which Upwork verifies by drivers license. I guess you can fake that but based on what these people wrote I’m pretty sure they were Americans. There are virtual firms on Upwork too, so maybe you catch on with one of those. I’ve hired developers and designers from a few of these virtual firms and individuals as well. For the more sensitive dev work I talk to the people on Zoom to find out where people live and what their story is. A lot of people seem to be using Upwork as a side gig. One of our WP guys has a full time job in Ohio and does admin work for us on the side. Works out good for both of us. Idk what you have to loose by putting your toe in.
I wasted hundreds of dollars on crappy voiceovers on Fiverr

Eventually I got what I needed, but it can be a real money hole when the contractor can't take proper direction.
