It’s pretty amazing what we’ve been doing to Price...he’s been pitching pretty well the last couple months, hadn’t given up more than 3 runs in his past 9 starts I think

Yanks have had success against him over the years, but it’s not like he’s Sonny Gray. But they’re going to crucify him in Boston for getting hammered by the Yanks

Same here. Let's give the kid a shot first.

If they did trade for Happ there's no way they give up that much for him. Unless 2-3 of them are real low level prospects the Yanks could let go and not feel the effects of.

in baseball. I know people are worried about the rotation in the playoffs, but even as currently constructed, the Yankees are the favorites to win the World Series. Don't do anything stupid via trade. They wont need length out of anyone besides severino in the playoffs. Tell CC and whoever else to empty the tank for 4 innings and go from there.

I saw Severino pitch in person against the Rays a couple of weeks ago and I don't think people appreciate just how good he is. He gave up maybe one hard hit ball the entire game I saw in 8 innings

They have guys they will be losing to Rule 5 that can be traded, so they have some latitude. They are not going to find a #2, they don't need one. I'd bet Sonny Gray will be available for a sturdy #3/#4 innings eater, too. I would not be surprised if Gray is traded.

Been around a lot longer and Guidry for about 3 years was at this level and that is about it. The 1978 25-3, 1.78 ERA was the best season I've seen. I still think Guidry was MVP over Jim Rice.

Gray no matter what. Mentally he doesn't have it to pitch in this market. They wont even consider letting him get a start in the playoffs, hell they'd likely leave him off the roster entirely.

Just trade him for whatever the best offer is. He's a sack of shit in this market. I think they made a big mistake with the Romine bullshit early in the year. It was such a small sample size and they were catering to a guy who clearly doesnt have it between the ears. You dont cater to guys like that, you ship them out of town.

I agree. Just ship him out. He's good enough to do well in another uniform, so they may be able to get something for him.
The Yankees
MookGiants : 7/1/2018 10:49 pm : link
also can't keep running Gray out there. Not one person in that clubhouse has any confidence when he's on the mound. I think it impacts the entire team mentally when he goes out there. It's doing no good for anyone sending him ou tthere every 5th day. He could throw 3 shutouts in a row and they still wouldnt even consider him for a start in a big spot or in the playoffs

This is what I mean. Aaron Judge rightfully gets incredible publicity as a face of baseball and is one of the best outfielders in the game. Severino is one of the best pitchers in the game and doesn't get nearly the same level of attention. He doesn't even get the same level of attention as other aces around baseball and he pitches in NY!

Dude is the best ace in baseball. Pitching in the AL East with that assassin mentality. He's the goods.

Been around a lot longer and Guidry for about 3 years was at this level and that is about it. The 1978 25-3, 1.78 ERA was the best season I've seen. I still think Guidry was MVP over Jim Rice.

Same here and you're right about Guidry and the dominating level he was at back then, especially the 78 year. Let's not forget he went 2-0 in the playoffs that year as well. Winning a game in each the ALCS and WS.

The only other pitcher in NY as dominating was a couple of Doc Gooden early years with the Mets. Sevy kind of reminds me of those years tbh.

I think the best rule is no rule. To me the shift is a fad. There are ways to beat it. Unnecessary to make any new rules.

Yup and as much as the Yanks getting swept by them could hurt for best AL record, them doing the same to Houston makes that a wash. Now they just have to take some games from the Sux.

Yankee fans want an allstar at every position. So they pick on any player they don't think is allstar level and try to replace him. Hicks is very streaky and is on one of his hot streaks. Funny thing is he is 2nd in OPS for CFers in baseball behind Trout. He is usually good for two DL stints a year but Yankee fans don't understand how many bad players play CF in baseball now and that Hicks is easily top 5 at that position even with his flaws. If he could ever be more consistent he would easily be an allstar player given his talent.

Same logic should apply to Greg Bird. Taking him a long time to get going, but as long as he’s healthy this lineup’s good enough to be patient and give him his chance.

I’m good with giving Drury some ABs at first, maybe once or twice a week, but some of the recent calls to bench Bird are way too premature.

Don't do anything stupid via trade. They wont need length out of anyone besides severino in the playoffs. Tell CC and whoever else to empty the tank for 4 innings and go from there.

I watched a segment on MLB Network a few weeks ago in which Bill James listed Severino as the EIGHTH best starting pitcher in baseball. I nearly caused permanent damage from rolling my eyes.

I think it's pretty much the two things you hit on. Consistency and injuries. if he was more consistent or had less time on the DL I don't think there would be near the amount of negative talk directed at him.

But when you combine those two, he's an easy target for some. Me, I'm not thrilled with him batting from the right side but I really like his D, and his lefty bat, especially at home.

That means Hicks was the first Yankees non-first baseman to hit thee HR's against the Red Sox. Which begs the question: were there any Yankees non-first baseman to hit three HR's against the White Sox, because it could be that Hicks is the only Yankees non-first baseman to hit three HR's against either of the Sox teams! Wouldn't that be something for the record books!!?

Happ and Hamels both gave up 7 earned runs in less than six innings today. Both now with ERA's above 4. If the Yankees are giving up prospects for either of these two, I hope it's along the lines of Adams, Estrada, and/or McKinney.

When the Yanks were 9-9 you had fans saying Boone was a terrible hire.

You have comments on nearly every game thread trashing Sanchez or Stanton.

This team is damn fun to watch. Sit back and enjoy, because when you don't - it just comes off as whiny cuntiness.

People need to keep in mind that he is a FA after the 2019 season. As good as he has been, given the BIG contracts that will be required to keep Severino, Judge, Sanchez and others in NY, I just don't think that the Yanks are going to pay him what he will be looking for.

I am not saying trade him or bench him- I am saying that we should enjoy his play for the next year and a half- because it is more likely than not that in 2020, he will be wearing a different uniform.

IMO, the Yanks would be wise to spend some assets this winter getting a CF or two who project to get to NY next year to prep for 2020.

Not anymore it isn't.

He barely played this season- 134 ABs- then broke his hammate bone and will miss the rest of the season. When he did play, he had BIG problems with breaking stuff- 47 K's in 134 ABs

Given his significant struggles in 2018, it is highly probable that he goes back to Tampa to show that he can hit the breaking ball- and get a LOT of ABs there.

I suspect that as talented as he is, he may well require another 1000+ ABs in the minors to finish development.

After a brutal start in Scranton, he's turning things around - hitting .319/.386/.451 in 28 games in June. He's still only 23, and as poorly as he's hit in MLB we're still only talking about 93 ABs over two seasons.

I would like to see Wade get another shot this year.

IMO, with Drury's remarkable positional flexibility (he has played RF, LF, 3B, 2B and 1B in the majors), he is essentially two bench guys in one. If the Yanks ever decide to end the Walker experiment, Wade should be the obvious beneficiary- and be given the chance to play all over as well.

Another guy I would like to see get a chance, though he isn't on the 40- and we would be unlikely to see him before September- is Abitial Avelino. He plays serious defense in the middle INF and has great SB skills- in addition to some power.
