If you told me a couple of years ago that a first place team would be batting Markakis and Suzuki 4-5, I would have laughed my balls off.

No scrub pitcher pulls inexplicable gems out of his hat

quite like Anibal Sanchez. Hopefully the Red Sox hangover doesn't open the door for another one.
it would fit the pattern
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 4:45 pm : link
Shitty junkballers who can't break a pane of glass with their heaters seem to give the Yankees an incomprehensible amount of trouble.
We love to hit fastballs. We're not quite as good with
yatqb : 7/2/2018 4:57 pm : link
breaking balls. Not terrible, but not as good, at least by my eye balls test.
Bats, they are sick. I can no hit curve ball.
Stu11 : 7/2/2018 6:36 pm : link
Straight ball, I hit it very much. Curve ball, bats are afraid.

His FIP is 4.05 so the odds he's due a flame out is high.
seriously I've been watching Yankees baseball religiously for over

40 years and I don't think I've ever seen a game where we hit more laser beams than last night. Some of the hardest ones weren't even the ones that flew out. Judge's single and Stanton's double would have either killed someone or caused some serious brain damage if a head got in the way of them.

That Judge laser looked like it could have legitimately killed someone if it hit them right.

Same here Stu. Even back then we didn't need statcast to know when balls were smoked but I don't think I've ever seen the Yanks just teeing off and hitting scorchers all night like they did last night.

Like you said it wasn't only the HRs, the singles and doubles made me glad I wasn't playing the infield against them. Even major leaguers had no chance to field some of those. Miggy smoked one through Devers, and Bogarts had no shot at getting to a couple of grinders through the infield, especially Stantons.

I mean my god, by the time they could even start to react the ball was by them. Impressive to see, and couldn't have come vs a better opponent.
ALL RISE.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 7:22 pm : link
1-0.
Get that weak shit outta here
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 7:23 pm : link
Judge is heating up
#ALLRISE #23
dpinzow : 7/2/2018 7:23 pm : link
Judge with a flick of the wrist and it flies out opposite field to the short porch
Love to see balls
dune69 : 7/2/2018 7:24 pm : link
hit deep to the opposite field. Judge can hit 100 hr's to right field because they keep pitching him on the outside corner.
Red Sox-Nationals
dpinzow : 7/2/2018 7:33 pm : link
Max Scherzer struck out Sandy Leon on a slider that was so far low and inside it went through Leon's legs
Rick Porcello (the pitcher) clears the bases with a double off
dpinzow : 7/2/2018 7:35 pm : link
Scherzer. 3-0 Boston...Can the Red Sox play any more over their heads this year?
Loaisiga's change up is filthy tonight...
Tesla : 7/2/2018 8:03 pm : link
and he's got great command of it. 95-97 mph fastball that he locates well, nasty slider (though not super sharp with it tonight) and that change up, this kids is the goods. Let's just hope he stays healthy.
Awful AB by Gardy.
yatqb : 7/2/2018 8:05 pm : link
.
78' Guidry vs. 18' Severino
Jim in Tampa : 7/2/2018 8:06 pm : link
Wow! Look at that comp through their first 18 starts. Almost identical.

Bases loaded on a single, an HBP, runners advancing on a wild pitch, IBB to get to Porcello, two out double. Give me a fucking break!
Fucking Sanchez! Put in Romine!
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 8:08 pm : link
Oh, wait, wrong team
great baserunning by Torres
UConn4523 : 7/2/2018 8:09 pm : link
2-1 Yanks
Gleyber did all the work that inning.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 8:09 pm : link
Makes it look so easy.
Two great reads by Torres. He does so many things
yatqb : 7/2/2018 8:09 pm : link
so well.
Johnny's running out of gas.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 8:23 pm : link
.
Even when Suzuki sucked at the plate
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 8:33 pm : link
He was always a pain in the ass for the Yanks
That was on Didi
adamg : 7/2/2018 8:50 pm : link
Holder is good though
Great AB by Judge
mfsd : 7/2/2018 9:00 pm : link
We all want to see him drive these runs in, but he rarely chases crap and gets himself out. Better to walk and trust the guys behind him

And honorable mention to the ump for calling pitches at his ankles balls
Bah, let Sanchez off the hook there.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 9:03 pm : link
Hopefully the bulllpen does its thing.
I haven't worried too much about Torres in the nine spot
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 9:04 pm : link
but it's getting tougher to justify keeping him down there.
Higgy ...
Del Shofner : 7/2/2018 9:17 pm : link
... not sure he's ready for prime time.
Boone moving the lineup
section125 : 7/2/2018 9:25 pm : link
around is annoying. I know he looking for advantages, but Torres 3,5,8, 9. Hicks 1,5 or 6...I kind of like set lineups.
Tie game late becomes a battle of bullpens
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 9:32 pm : link
Advantage Yanks 90% of the time
Instead of wasting an out having Gardy bunt
mfsd : 7/2/2018 9:34 pm : link
Boone let him work a walk. Beautiful
Of course, doesn’t matter
mfsd : 7/2/2018 9:38 pm : link
if Judge and Didi don’t do anything. A few missed opps may bite us in this one
.
arcarsenal : 7/2/2018 9:38 pm : link
Sonofabitch.
Great at bats there
section125 : 7/2/2018 9:38 pm : link
with 1st and 2nd with nobody out. Pffttt.
Well, that's aggravating
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 9:39 pm : link
2 on no out against a garbage pitcher who can't find the plate, and they get nothing. Bah.
.
arcarsenal : 7/2/2018 9:40 pm : link
I usually hate the stupid gimmicky MLB holiday hats, but these actually aren't bad.

The socks on the other hand....
So nice to watch Green
section125 : 7/2/2018 9:46 pm : link
pitch. So smooth and effortless...
Let's go Neil!

Ugh.. Neil Walker is not the guy I want to see up right now.
Frustrating night.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 9:55 pm : link
Hopefully Chapman holds serve.
Another sparkling at bay
section125 : 7/2/2018 9:57 pm : link
for Walker. Swings at ball 3 after taking two close ones...
.
arcarsenal : 7/2/2018 10:02 pm : link
Walker is one of those guys who I really think just needs to be buried on a team that is way out of the spotlight. That's why he was decent in Pittsburgh. He's not made for NY. Zero faith in that guy in a big spot here.
.
arcarsenal : 7/2/2018 10:03 pm : link
Chapman has his A+ stuff tonight. Must like this heat.
Chappy sweating like a whore in church.
bceagle05 : 7/2/2018 10:06 pm : link
Turtleneck? I guess it's working for him.
Hey, remember early in the year....
Greg from LI : 7/2/2018 10:08 pm : link
..when people were saying Chapman's fastball wasn't what it used to be? Yeah, about that....
Wow, that was impressive.
yatqb : 7/2/2018 10:08 pm : link
Superman. But we've got a bunch of those.
Time for a walkoff
section125 : 7/2/2018 10:09 pm : link
HR.. who you got?

Gardner...
