excellent idea. Even the young guys wear down in the heat. Better to think about October instead of the here and now.
I like how Walker gets the start instead of Drury at 3B, let's Andujar truly enjoy his day off. Not that Drury is taking his job anymore but mentally it's prob good for Andujar to see A scrub like Walker and feel secure in his day off as a young man. Just a deeper thought into it

I'm glad to see someone else had a similar thought to mine. I brought up something similar the other day hoping Miggy wouldn't be looking over his shoulder now that Drury is up and was told I didn't know him well if I thought that.
What is the deal with him? I know he was struggling with command and velocity earlier in the year and demoted but is there any thought he can return and help out the bullpen? If he can return to form, he’d be a nice addition to the back of the staff
There is no need to split up Judge and Stanton since Judge kills RHP and Stanton kills LHP but have they ever batted back to back? My brain isn't working. I like Hicks splitting them up. Gardner for a veteran player seems to be so streaky whether it is good or bad. I love his presence on the team but when it is had with him it gets bad. I kind of like him batting 9th but then Hicks would move up to the leadoff spot.

He's thrown 7.2 consecutive scoreless innings now in SWB. Hasn't allowed a run since 6/13.
Looks to me like he's about ready to come back up. I guess it's a matter of figuring out the corresponding move.
Shreve is out of options - so I'm not sure they'll go that route, but he's really not much better (if at all) against lefties than Khanle is. Shreve is actually worse against lefties than righties. So, his handedness isn't even relevant.
battle going? I haven’t paid enough attention to the others but Andujar and Gleyber have to be at the rope of the lists.
Yeah, it is basically a two player race. Ohtani was probably the favorite early on but that ended with the elbow injury. Even if he comes back and hits well I think he would need to do something extraordinary to surpass both Andujar and Torres because he wouldn't play the field.
The NL rookie of the year side should be interesting. You have Soto, Albies, Acuna, Buehler (fell behind with the injury), Anderson, Peralta, Flaherty, etc. Pretty crazy.
We have Drury and Torreyes who can play all the infield positions
Likely because Walker's salary is fully guaranteed and he doesn't have minor league options left.
I think it's more the latter than the former. It's either keep him on the major league club or lose him. He isn't making a hell of a lot of money and the Yanks could take that hit no problem if it was what was best for the club.

Isn't 3B his natural position ? Its pretty damning that Boone would rather play Walker than Drury. IMHO, I'll be glad when they're both gone.
I don’t agree. I think they are prepping for playoffs and trying to find out if Walker is even worth keeping. They definitely like Drury, IMO.
I think Walker's experience, versatility and being a switch hitter is what's giving him a longer leash than others might get. They want him to succeed because a player like that helps big time come the playoffs and especially the World Series.
like Shreve, the skill set is a huge plus if they get the issues worked out. I think Walker will continue to get time so they can make a better decision on the playoff roster.

Yes, no doubt. The fact they're winning gives also lets them have more time and patience with him. Same with Bird IMO. Not that they'd release or demote Bird, just they can afford to carry him while he gets his bat going.
It's not like the Yanks are the Nats who everyone expected to be good and in the playoffs if not better, but instead are struggling big time and in 3rd place in their division.
whether we like him or not. $4.5 mill salary, switch hitter, multi-position. Put him in the lineup daily and he'll be fine. I think he gets traded.
Walker didn't sign until late in the spring. Why would every/any team that passed on him for nothing but money suddenly want to give up prospects for him 4 months later?

I don't know about that. Good trade value to me means they'll get something of value back. While they might be able to trade him instead of an outright release, who would actually trade for him, and on top of that give us something good back?
Unlikely IMO. Not the trade just a good return for him.

look at third strike over the middle of the plate. Were they posing for baseball cards? I grew up watching the 50’s and 60’s Yanks. Boy the game has changed!
the worst set of at bats in the last month. Gardner and Judge look a mid-thigh FBs well on the plate and Hicks swings at two ball off the plate while looking at one on the plate.
excellent idea. Even the young guys wear down in the heat. Better to think about October instead of the here and now.

All the same, I'd rather see Drury playing at 3rd instead of Walker. IMHO Drury gives the team more than Walker.

Yeah, gotta admit the pitcher had me a bit fooled on those two batters as well. He was getting the call on the outside/just off the plate pitch on both guys and I thought for sure he was going to try and expand and see if he could still get the call but instead came back towards the middle of the plate. I'd have been looking outside too and got rung up there.
Two in less than two games. Hoping this is the start of a nice HR tear coming from him. Love to see him get to 30 in a flash.
I thought that was #21
Maybe it was. Voted for him on the MLB.Com all star ballot before the game and it said 19, so I assumed this was 20? Maybe they didn't update it? Not sure.
Wow they have to be the biggest disappointment in baseball. About to be swept by the Red Sox to fall under .500. They have to at least consider the possibility of selling Harper at the deadline
Left the hot bat in AAA everyone was talking about.
I haven't seen one really good AB yet since he's been up. Granted it's a small sample size but just goes to show just because a guy is hitting great down there doesn't automatically mean he will when he's called up.
The Yanks catch a break with the schedule. Not only is tomorrow an off day, but the All Star break begins on the 16th- so the Yanks can get him 4 extra days without missing any game time by having him stay on the DL through the ASG.
It doesn't hurt to wait- he can't be activated for 10 days anyway- and if they brought him back on the 15th, he would get in one game, and then sit for 4 days.
It is in the Yankees and Torres' best interest to use the 4 day break to get him right and have him come back healthy.

Yank talking heads after the game agreed with you and said there's no way he's coming back for one game before the All Star break. They also said he may still make the All Star team and attend the game but not play.
Gleyber will be eligible to come back against CLE before the break, but yeah, I think the very obvious move is to just rest him through it which will afford some extra time. Have to be careful with a strain like this because it's one of those things that can get worse if you push it too soon and cost him way more time.
Drury has experience @ 2B even though he hasn't played it here yet. I believe that's where he played the majority of his games in ARZ. It sounds like Walker will get the bulk of the starts there and Walker has looked slightly better or like he's getting closer to getting it together somewhat - and maybe it'll happen with more consistent PT - but I'm just not a big fan of the guy. I'd rather see Drury get some burn there. I guess we'll see how it plays out.
Just bring up Torreyes. The guy was hitting .330 or so Â
Torreyes is currently inactive - he has some sort of personal shit going on, so he's not an option right now.
Yeah, Boone referred to Toe being unavailable. Also said Wade is in the mix as a possibility, and I can see that.
I think the issue is backup at SS. Gleyber was filling that role. Drury and Walker can both play 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but I don't think either of them is an option at SS. Wade has played there.

That's what I was thinking, and I just saw this on RAB:
"The Yankees have not yet announced a corresponding roster move, but with Torreyes on the Triple-A temporary inactive list, Wade is the obvious call-up candidate. They need to get a backup shortstop on the roster."
Yankees' Ronald Torreyes: Out at Triple-A with personal issue
by RotoWire Staff 3h ago • 1 min read UPDATE 3h ago
Torreyes (personal) is on the temporary inactive list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and hasn't appeared in any games for the affiliate since June 25, Brendan Kuty of NJ.com reports.
Torreyes has been away from the club for more than a week to be with his wife, who is dealing with a health issue. The utility man struggled to find at-bats behind everyday middle infielders Didi Gregorius and Gleyber Torres earlier this season, but the Yankees may have more of a need for Torreyes' services after Torres exited Wednesday's game against the Braves with right hip tightness. In any case, Torreyes won't be an option for the big club until he's first activated at Triple-A, and it's not known when that might happen.
The Michael Kay "Sterling" home Run call (paying homage to him on his 80th birthday) on the Stanton HR was downright cringe worthy though...
I thought it was funny.
I agree with both of you, it was cringe worthy and it was funny as hell. Kay and O'Neill were really yucking it up yesterday. I think they have a good time with each other.

Yea O'neill always seems to have a good time. It was a fun moment when they showed Carlos Gomez freaking out on the gatorade bin in the dugout. Its always funny when O'Neill has to talk about his legendary freak outs.
further thoughts from RAB on who replaces Gleyber for now - Â
As for who replaces Torres on the roster, I have to think it’ll be Tyler Wade. The Yankees need another shortstop on the roster — neither Walker nor Drury (nor Miguel Andujar) can play shortstop, so Gleyber was backing up Didi Gregorius — and Wade is the only available shortstop capable infielder on the 40-man roster. Ronald Torreyes has been on the minor league temporary inactive list since June 26th because he’s home with his wife who has a medical issue, and yesterday Triple-A Scranton manager Bobby Mitchell told DJ Eberle that he has no update on Torreyes. Toe is dealing with something more important than baseball right now. Either the Yankees will call up Wade to replace Gleyber and serve as the backup infielder, or they’re going to call up a non-40-man roster guy like Rey Navarro, L.J. Mazzilli, or Abi Avelino. I’d bet against the latter, even if transferring Jordan Montgomery to the 60-day DL opens up a 40-man spot easily. Wade’s the easy move here and MLB teams tend to go with the path of least resistance in these situations. I’d bet on Wade getting called up. Will he actually play? Who knows. I’d rather see him at second base than Walker (or Drury, for that matter).

Don't write off Wade yet.
I know he has not hit AT ALL in his two prior shots in NY. However, he might be like Higashioka- a guy who once a couple hits fall, might just relax and let his talent show. He has real SB speed- which could be valuable off the bench as well.
What is really intriguing about Wade has been the AAA experiment with him in the OF- he has played 17 games there since being sent down in April- including 9 games in CF. I would not say he is a finished product in the OF- but with Gardner a FA at the end of the season, the Yanks probably need a guy who can be the "next man up" if something happened to Hicks- because we all know Ellsbury can't be relied upon.
Wade, throughout the minors, has been an excellent "get on base" and run guy. If he can become an ok to good defensive OF, that would be a nice backup guy.
Wade just does not seem able to hit MLB pitching? It is not like he is a marginal MiLB player. I can see MiLB power not transferring to MLB, but hitting is hitting and he does not have a quirky swing that I see.

He's probably just an ok hitter to begin with. And he's only had 93 ABs spread out over 40+ games. He could still beat out Torreyes for that gig, though.
he's a unique person that's for sure. I remember calling his WMCA show in the early 70's and listening to him call Nets & NY Raider games. He's had an amazing career.
Jack Curry says it's official that Wade is joining the team Â

Right. Poor guy can't buy a single.
I can't imagine there's too many guys all time who have HR's on their first three AB's though.
