Meet Samuel. We met him back in November at the train station at our Hot Meals event. He was homeless AND battling lymphoma. I remember being in awe of his positivity and love for life despite his difficult circumstances. Such a happy go lucky person. A gentle soul with a big smile. Samuel lost his job when he missed too much work after being diagnosed with cancer. With little to no family and no place to go, he became homeless just like that.
We were so happy to see him again last night, smiling of course. Not only is he still alive but he is no longer homeless thanks to the compassion and generosity of NY Giant Brett Jones who heard Samuel’s story (thanks to an outreach program) and wanted to help. He got him a place to live for the next 7 months. Is that amazing or what?? THANK YOU Brett Jones!! Honestly, since I don’t follow football, I had no idea who Brett was before Samuel said his name but I do now and I think he is just AWESOME!! Samuel just finished more rounds of chemotherapy and is awaiting a doctor’s appointment next week when he will find out the results of his treatment. Of course, he is hopeful and smiling.
