He's under contract for a few years still. I hate to give up on him, but you can't keep pitching him if he's going to go 3 and give up 5.
Does he have any trade value at this point? Trading him straight up for Happ a possibility? I don't know if TOR would want him...
I suspect we’ll trade him eventually, may not be able to until the offseason. Strikes me as the kind of pitcher who will find it again in someplace like Pittsburgh or Milwaukee
I don’t really know the rules on it but he shouldn’t be in the majors anymore this season. If they can’t trade him, send him down and bring him back up to try again next year when we aren’t in a pennant race.

I agree that I think he offers a lot of value to a smaller market team, especially an noncompetitive one. Maybe as part of a package in a trade for Hand?
He has plus stuff but clearly hasn't figured out the mental component.
The Yankees need starting pitching and he's got time left on the deal.
That combination means that, in all likelihood, he kicks around and at the very worst gets pushed to long relief in the bullpen to try and regain some confidence. Then again if Hicks and Stanton stay hot and they steal one, he likely keeps the slot.
Either way, I don't see him moved from the roster one way or another.
To see Gray shit the bed again. Eventually the Yankees have to decide what's more important, the team or Grays feelings. It's one thing to lose when he pitches. However, having to go deep into your bullpen could effect the next game also.
I'm sure the ask for Hand will be a Chapman/Miller type Â
Best case for Gray at this point is to trade for another starter, and perhaps shut him down for a few weeks, to see if he can find it down the stretch (unlikely, but can we really keep running him out every 5th day)
Then come offseason, maybe we can trade him for a couple B level prospects, and hope the Yanks can pull off some more of their recent magic finding guys like Loaisiga.
I'm just spitballing here...as long as Tanaka's out, we're short on options barring a trade. German, Loaisiga, and hopefully Sheffield soon will make their starts, but being both young and with innings caps it's hard to count on them all the way through to October.
Why do they continue using Gray? This dude has been toast for awhile now?! He is no good. Meanwhile Boston is probably going sweep the KC and take the lead for good! smh. Why is it that Boston always gets the easiest schedule?

I think his feelings are the least of their concerns with him. They'll do whatever they have to with him for the better of the team.
Can't wait till the Sox come to town and they lay down like dogs just like everyone else...
Jays seem like the type of team you want to jump on early and don't give them any life. If they can even sniff a win, they play like their hair is on fire.
Yup. At that spot in the game the 3-0 has to be right down the middle or you take it. That pitch changed the whole AB and inning. He's just gotta be smarter there and know the situation. Hell, I would've made the guy throw two consecutive strikes if they weren't right down the middle.
The Drury trade might turn out to be a dud also. Widener and Solak are both playing well. And Drury can’t get time ahead of Walker? I mean, do they really think Walker will be that lefty bat off the bench getting big hits in the playoffs? C’mon, let’s see what Drury can do, let’s not let trade look worse than it already has.
Stanton. Truly embarrassing. Swings at 3-0 ball 4, low and inside. Swings at ball 4 high and away. Looks at the only strike Biagini throws in the at bat.
He was swinging at that 3-0 count pitch no matter where it was.
Of how bad gray is how about this Yankee offense with a chance to get back in this game, bases loaded 1 out and all they can muster was one run on a walk, This blue jay team sucks the Mets pounded them two games in a row, god forbid Stanton or Didi cleared the bases in that spot, no Stanton strikes out and Didi flys out. Red Sox would of scored 6 runs that inning Yankee settle for one run on a walk tho smh, speaking of Red Sox they are pounding the royals,

the end of the game. He truly does not give a shit.
I get being frustrated but step off the ledge my friend. He’s a bad Yankees pitcher, he’s not a bad guy and he definitely gives a shit. It’s just not meant to be.
No he doesn't give a shit. He does not learn. He does the same thing every game. Shitty batter up and he nibbles and throw balls, gets behind and gives up a hit. I seriously doubt that he is incapable of throwing strikes, yet he keeps doing it..
Sorry for the outlandish rants. Tired of a player of his caliber refusing to compete. He refuses to alter his game. I would understand getting hit. I do not understand going 3-0, 3-1 every batter.
And side note: Hale managed to give us a shot at this one.
Veteran, switch hitter with versatility. My guess is they think his lack of playing time has hurt him, and now with some regular playing time he'll get another shot. Probably his last shot at sticking with the team though.
Definite props to Hale on the hold. He's done his job well tonight.
It’s not that he likes to nibble, but he is getting shelled whenever Â
he comes anywhere near the zone. And unfortunately nobody is biting at his pitches off the plate.
If he throws 94mph fastball down the middle and nobody can touch it, I am sure he wouldn’t throw anything else.
Rothchild should do something, anything different. Look at his Oakland A’s tapes. Go consult his old pitching coach. Something. Just telling him to nut up isn’t cutting it.
What are they waiting for with Sheffield? Haven’t they learned during these coiple of years? When this team needs a shot in the arm, the answer lies in the minors, in our system.
Billy Martin isn't his manager. Martin woulda buried him. I remember he hated Kenny Holtzman, and buried him. Every time he'd use Holtzman, Holtzman would pitch a great game, then go back into Martin's doghouse until he needed him again. Of course, old George M., would have run Sonny out of town on a rail a month ago.
looking UP at the Sox in the standings. Tough to keep up when a garbage Gray and two kids are getting the ball 3/5 of the time.
Job 1 this offseason has to be about improving the rotation. Severino is great. Tanaka was quite up and down before getting injured. CC's been mostly very good/great, but who knows if he'll be back next year, and he'll be another year older. You could make an argument the only solidified spot in the rotation next year is Severino. I don't really trust Tanaka completely next year as our #2 starter.

Didn’t hit me until they just said it on the broadcast, 16 HRs is already Hicks career high, before the all star break.
As long as he can stay healthy, what a find he’s been

Traded John Ryan Murphy for him straight up. Cashman is a genius.
The Yankees need starting pitching and he's got time left on the deal.

...get him the fuck off this team.
Don't let him get on the team charter flight out of Toronto.
Give him a regular commercial flight ticket to anywhere he wants to go.
Anywhere but NY.

Stanton has been great lately but that was a horrific AB. Swings at 2 balls on 3-0 and then takes strike 3.
He was swinging at that 3-0 count pitch no matter where it was.

Frazier hit two more homers yesterday.
I think it could happen in five days. The Hale part but not sure Sonny sees the mound again soon unless it's in a blowout relief appearance.
That said, the O only has four damn hits tonight so far. Four!
Ah ok, my bad. Thought you meant he was just having trouble starting.
Agreed but still a long way to go, and no doubt Cashman is gonna get some pitching help.

Because it's starting to look like Gardy is a platoon candidate.

Gardy is my favorite player, but it is getting pretty hard to not get Frazier up to the big club.
Judge and Stanton were just awful.
Hick has been the team's only offensive player for about a week.
Shame because the team hit about 6 balls to center that were ripped and Pillar made great plays on 4 of them.
Yeah, I agree and think that's their plan but Gardy just isn't getting it done vs lefties lately. I'm not sure that's going to get any better either.
I say find a spot for Frazier and get him in there platooning with Gardy.
