a 1 year rental. Happ is a 35 year old pitcher who is having a good season...not great.

he has a 4.03 era with 110 k's. That's is good not great. He is not worth giving up any of our top prospects for. He is a URFA next season.

I'd agree with that except he's done well vs the Sox. I don't want to give up a lot for him either but we still have a decent amount of games left vs the Sox and he could be a difference maker.

Hale was DFA'd. They need him to pass waivers.

I’d give up a good prospect for happ but like you said not an elite one. Happ is kind of perfect for the yanks — he’s a lefty and maybe a bit underrated. Won’t have to liquify the farm but he should represent an upgrade over the likes of gray or German or someone not named severino,CC or hopefully Tanaka. He would slide right into the 4th spot. Lefty in Yankee stadium... sign me up.

Same here. Then I'd go after Hamels if they can't get Happ but I want no part of Fulmer or Harvey.

I'd also see what it would take for Hand from SD while I'm at it. Even though I know he'd be costly.

We have to winder whether this is a "conveninently timed" injury- the Yanks need to limit Loaisiga's innings, and this allows them to shut him down for a few weeks and help keep him near the cap.
With Jonathan Loaisiga hurt...

Cessa will now make the other start on Monday in double header. He will be the extra player for the double header and then go right back down to minors. DFA'ing Hale was a no brainer since he wouldn't be available for 4-5 days. Already carrying an extra pitcher so a position player was the move. Not to mention def needed Frazier with the two lefties pitching this weekend and a double header on Monday. Tanaka back on Tuesday.

No. Yanks can do whatever they want with him down in minors. Rest him without DL'able injury. You dont give someone a MRI, and lessen his trade value with a fake injury. Stupid theory.
I don't think Loaisiga
Giantsfan79 : 7/7/2018 3:48 pm : link
will help the big club much more this year. He jumped from Single A to the majors and while he pitched great in 2 starts - against weak teams - he looked average at best in his other two starts. If he finished out the year in Double or Triple A, continues to build his arm strength & experience, and comes to spring training next year to compete that's a win. Even in the bullpen, would you really want him facing a playoff team down the stretch?

mitch300 : 7/7/2018 4:18 pm : link
They DFA Hale? I understand sending him down after yesterday. However, he's been pitching good lately. Why would someone else not pick him up. Am I missing something. Also heard on WFAN today the redsux are rated # 1 and Houston #3 and the Yankees 22nd in risp this season. Sat year we lost twice to Houston in the post season giving up 2 runs twice. Everyone is obsessed with the Yanks having to get pitching. It would be nice, it is not a necessary IMHO.

Hale's been in the league since 2013, so he's out of options and has to pass through waivers before going to the minors.

I don't think this is what is going to happen.

I think Tanaka pitches one of the games- but I think with Loiasiga going down, there is a good chance that the Yanks might start Sheffield.

Sheffield is the scheduled starter tomorrow for AAA. It would not be a big deal to bump his start back one day. Remember that the Yanks just opened a 40 man roster spot by DFAing Hale. That can easily go to Sheffield.

Wrong Rich. Tanaka is pitching TU. CC is pitching one of the DH games. Cessa will be pitching the other. They're not going to commit a 40 man spot to Sheffield yet, unless he is really needed. And a one-time spot start for a DH is not that.

While the drop step slowed him, the ball dropped 10 feet in front of him and he had stopped because of Drury running straight out. No Drury, and Gardner gets there. Drury had no chance at the ball.
So I disagree. Gardner catches it without Drury in the way.

C'mon man. I know you like Gardy and we all do but that was clearly on him and was a bit more than a drop step. More like a full step/step and a half back. Had he broke in immediately he would've had a shot at catching it regardless of whatever Drury did. If he's charging in the whole way chances are he's calling for it the whole time and Drury isn't anywhere near the play. Can't fault Drury for going back and trying to catch it.

I also think he stopped because once he knew he couldn't get it, he didn't want the ball bouncing over his head like it did to Pillar earlier. Which was the smart play there. No doubt he took the hint from the Pillar play.

Wanna blame him, fine if it makes you happy. Point is Drury had no chance whatsoever on the 1st pop up and almost got in the way and had none on the 2nd and he did was get in everyone's way.

Too Bad the Yanks will not win the AL east
Alwaysblue22 : 7/8/2018 8:40 am : link
With Sonny Gary in their Rotation. He always struggles and rarely gets to the 5th inning with a lead. He is an Automatic loss, and a bull pen killer. The Yankees have to make a deal to replace Gray or bite the bullet and promote Sheffield. Sheffield has nastier stuff than Gray and is a AAA all star with a low ERA and high strike out %. He is also a lefty. Many fans and sports writers claim that the Yankees would be worse off with Sheffield that Gray, because Sheffield has not pitched in the major leagues . All I can say is that Sheffield is a better pitcher than Gray who could not replace Sheffield as the Ace in Scranton. He is also better than Johny " Lasgana" who was promoted from AA, pitched for the Yanks and was sent down to AAA. I don't understand the logic of "you cant promote an unproven Starter" Under that logic no young pitcher in your organization would ever make it to the majors. It is ridiculous to make the argument that a young pitcher is not ready yet. How do you ever know when a pitcher is ready? Sheffield is 22 y/o and not 19 and has shown he has the stuff to pitch in MLB and his stats show that he is ready If he is traded to a last place team for a re-tread ML starter the writers would say ,,its now ok to start him in MLB with that struggling team because there is no pressure. There is pressure everywhere in the Major Leagues compared to AAA due to the higher level of competition to keep your job and the MONEY you are paid and need to protect. What is the MLB minimum salary now.. is it not over $2 million a year? That is why the Major leagues is referred to as the "SHOW" by players on the way up who don't see that kind of money in AAA or below. Cashman made a trade in 2016 to acquire Sheffield for a reason. He has the TALENT to succeed in MLB. We have seen the decline of Sonny Gray and how he hurts your entire pitching staff by not providing enough quality innings. When he pitches the game is usually over by the third inning. I am not sure what Cashman or the scouts saw in Gray when he was pitching for Oakland. Whatever they saw was a mirage. The time for Sheffield is NOW, or forget about winning the division.

Troll or no troll, Sonny Gray needs to be off this team. As in N.O.W.
And replaced by who?

Look, I know Yankees fans are incredibly impatient and Gray has been dreadful for the most part. But the best thing for this teams chances to win a championship this season is for Gray to get this figured out. Dumping him only creates yet another hole in the rotation. You may not like it, and we always want immediate results, but Gray isn’t going anywhere for now. They NEED him and they will ride this out as long as they can because, well, it’s in the best interest of the team long term. You’re just going to have to learn to deal with it.

Gray would not beat out Sheffield as the Ace for AAA Scranton. I don't think you are a real Yankee fan. Based on your comments about Gray you like Boston or the Mets.

can we stop it with his obvious troll?
in terms if Gray

there are no easy answers. As above, best case scenario is hw figures it out here- that’s what a Yankees fan has to hope for at this point. Otherwise you’re selling real low and creating another roster hole. Saying you want him
off the team doesn’t fix the problem. It’s obviously best he fixes it here and becomes a longterm asset, if that’s still a possibility, maybe out of the pen for awhile.

Guys figure it out -- fans wanted Betances dumped 2 months ago.

He can be shelved for a few weeks because of the break, and maybe go to the back of the pen.

After the break if he's not straightened out, then maybe he can be part of a waiver trade.

You are a real piece of shit. You register in November 2017, make a fool of yourself every single time you post, and you say I’m a Red Sox fan or Mets fan? Just more evidence that your sorry ass has no clue what you’re talking about.

Are you ever going to tell us what your last handle was, troll? What a pathetic, pathetic life.
I am not Trolling
Alwaysblue22 : 7/8/2018 11:42 am : link
You call me a Troll because you cannot logically refute what I have stated. Gray hurts the bull pen that is vital to this current Yankees team by not providing enough innings up front. Sheffield will do no worse than Gray, and is more likely to provide 5 innings that Gray cant even do. It is the people who want to keep Gray or want the Yanks to trade for a ML re-tread for some kind of "INSTANT UPGRADE" and not promote Sheffield who are impatient. Bring up Sheffield and let him develop his talents in the major leagues in 2018 so the Yanks will be in a better position in 2019. The Yanks are an entertaining team that hits lots of HRs but they will not be a Championship winner with Sonny Gray over working the bullpen....they have no chance. Al least Sheffield gives you a CHANCE and can further develop in 2018 at the ML level and not be brought up with no experience next year. Put Gray of the DL with an "Injury" or only trade for another 35y/o pitcher if the trading partner agrees to take Gray.
Sheffield is not ready!
BigBlueShock : 7/8/2018 11:46 am : link
You’d think Cashman would get the benefit of doubt at this point in regards to knowing when the right time is to bring prospects up. But I guess trolls on BBI know better. Sheffield is on a strict innings limit and they are managing his innings in the minors so that he will be available to them later in the season. Why is that so hard to understand?
Scouts say Sheffield is ready to replace Gray
Alwaysblue22 : 7/8/2018 8:56 pm : link
If they are going to use Sheffield later in the Season.......its getting late pretty early as Yogi once said. Read this article about Gray> https://nypost.com/2018/07/07/yankees-cant-let-sonny-gray-wreck-their-division-title-hopes/ The Yankees own 29 losses for the season. Gray owns seven of them. That is as many losses as Luis Severino, CC Sabathia and Masahiro Tanaka have combined for all season thus far. Cashman is not going to telegraph what he really intends to do with Sheffield before the Trade Deadline. I do not like Mets fans or Red Sox Fans TROLLING on here disguised as Yankee fans in an effort to convince the Yankees not to promote Sheffield and continue to flounder with Sonny Gray. Over his last two outings Gray has surrendered 11 earned runs, 13 hits and 18 base runners in just 4 ¹/₃ innings of work. As a Yankee, Gray is 9-14. The worst part about Gray is the lack of innings that hurts the bull pen. Sheffield will be promoted and will be starting SOON after the all star break, and Gray will be relegated to a mob up role or included in a trade. Sheffield can be on a strict pitch count with the Yanks and still deliver more quality innings than Gray.
