Starters are still easily top 5 in the sport.
Harvey or anybody
spike : 7/7/2018 5:37 pm : link
better than Vargas
Intersting to take a look back at SP targets...

Compared to our own.

Zack Wheeler 4.36 ERA 3.66 FIP
Steven Matz 3.32 ERA 4.62 FIP
Matt Harvey 4.80 ERA 4.56 FIP
Lance Lynn 5.21 ERA 4.29 FIP
Alex Cobb 6.53 ERA 4.99 FIP
Tyler Chatwood 5.01 ERA 5.03 FIP
Geez, looking at that lineup is tough.

I mean, how many .230 hitters can you start?

1 - Good
2 - Plawecki - so far he's ok at best, but he's a backup getting a start today, fine.
3- I like Flores as a supersub, a guy you move around to give people a day off. Or they could have just put him at third and let him develop there, but they didn't, so here we are. He's not a starting first baseman. I'd rather see Smith so we can gauge what he s.
4 - Cabrera's been a bright spot, but not that bright.
5 - Frazier, good guy, good in the clubhouse, but not productive enough.
6 - Rosario, underperforming BADLY. WTF?
7 - Conforto needs to add about 50 points to his batting average to be the guy we thought we had, never mind the guy we hoped we had. Sheesh.
8 - Nimmo's a bright spot but isn't really a centerfielder. He's a win for Sandy, though.
9 - Bautista's doing great as reclamation projects go, but what's the point of playing a guy like that when you're 14 games under 500? He's a stopgap, but what's on the other side of the gap? Jay Bruce? An outfield of Cespedes-Nimmo-Conforto left to right doesn't sound awful, except that Cespedes can't stay healthy.
Flores needs to play every day
Vanzetti : 7/7/2018 6:40 pm : link
He will eventually be an .820 OPS guy, as he continues to learn to go the other way

He will never be a great defensive player but just stick
Him at 3B and he will be fine.
Conforto is still young and has raw power

He could still be a good player. But as of right now, you can’t count on it. He obviously gets another year

Nimmo is looking way better than I ever expected. If he is for real, that is key. He basically he replaces Conforto as the Mets big OF prospect

Wont happen with the Mets unfortunately. They mistreated his development.
Flores

I've said it before. The Mets will trade Flores for some B level minor league relief pitcher. The team they will trade him to will put him on 3rd base, and leave him there. He will then go on to bat about 275; hit 25 homeruns and 80 rbi's. That's my lovable Mets.

I think he is what you are exactly seeing. A .780 OPS guy who probably needs to play 1B in the majors since he is awful anyone else. That is why his trade value is very low. He might make a decent platoon guy cause he smashes LHP.
Mets lineup moving into next year
Vanzetti : 7/8/2018 1:07 am : link
Nimmo OF
Conforto OF
McNeil 2B
Flores 3B
Alonso/Dom 1B
Lagares/Cespedes OF
Plawecki C
Rosario SS

Bench: Todd Frazier, TJ Riveria, Nido, Guillorme

Just let the young guys play. No more moneyball deals to aging vets.

Flores will still be super sub to Frazier

Do they extend Mesoraco? Bautista?
Whos the backup Ss? Guillorme should learn to play SS
