Definitely looked like he belongs with these guys. Not very strong but very quick and athletic. Good defensive awareness. No idea what his conditioning is like and it looked like coaches were easing him in as far as minutes.
My only real concern is that Frank did not show any improvement with ball handling or play making ability. As mentioned, it's just a summer league game, but I'm afraid his ceiling will be just a 3 and D guy if something drastic doesn't happen in the future.
but will definitely catch up tomorrow. Glad to hear Knox made a good first impression. I know it's only Summer League but KP looked great in the Vegas league and that proved to be no fluke. Definitely feels like things are changing for the better.
Looked pretty mediocre on offense most of the game. Played well the last 5 minutes. It’s all good he isn’t even 19 yet. As much as I loved Mitchell, I really like Frank’s long term upside.
They really are this time. No hyperbole. They are finally being well fun by people with an actual plan that they are sticking to. They have good young talent that this time they are not trading away and are only likely to add to with another lottery pick after this season. There is light at the end of the tunnel, finally.

I dare you to not talk about Donovan Mitchell again. I dare you.
He plays really high above the rim, and really stretches out on layups. And he will shoot well. And he is 18 and is going to get a lot stronger. He just flies like a really elite athlete.
I wonder where Robinson could have gone in the draft had he actually played college ball for a year. Length, quickness, mobility, timing, hands all excellent. Needs strength, of course. And offensive skills. But 20 years old is really, really early in the career of a big man. Upside is exciting.
Trier was pretty impressive, too (13 points) as was Troy Williams (17). Williams just looked more mature out there than most of the freshmen. He's a really good athlete with a decent shot. Trier is a good-sized 2.
The Knicks took some knocks from some so-called "experts" for their draft. Those experts had no idea how great a talent Knox is. In Knox, Robinson and Trier, the Knicks could end up with a top-level rookie class.
I thought he was another Al harrington but maybe he's more
Bill Simmons tweeted this fwiw
"Congrats to Knicks fans on Kevin Knox - I try hard not to overreact to Summer League, but it’s clear he’s an ideal 2-way wing for whatever the NBA is now. Very polished for his age already."
that this was the first game for the Knicks, and the fourth for the Hawks. That's a huge difference. The announcers were talking about how much better Trae Young looked than in the first three games. Well, what will the Knicks rookies look like in their fourth game?
As a Frank supporter, I would agree he looked underwhelming. Â
The announcers were drooling all over him. He really was able to help and recover much more fluidly than you'd expect. As mentioned Knox looked very good too especially his ball handling and taking it to the rim. I think tis is what the college guys like Seth Greenberg announcing the game really wanted to see out of him. Agree on Frank. I'm a big fan but he looked really ordinary most of the game till the last 5 minutes. Turned it over way too much.
i like frabk and i am by no means ready to give up on him Â
but he needs to get more agressive and push the ball, fizdale wants to run and use defense to create offense...
to many times frank gets the ball and he just does not push, he gets across midcourt and immediately looks to pass...
as crazy it sounds i could see burke starting over him becaus ehe just fits what fizdale wants to do better, i also think mudoay is a better fit because mudiay wants to run and be in the open court...
as muxh as this 5 would probably suck defensively, i could see burke, hardaway, knox, hezonja, kanter the starting 5

I just have this feeling that Kanter isn’t Fizzdales type of player and won’t see as many minutes as he saw last year. I actually think Kanter will he traded by deadline
Passing to just pass. There were plenty of times he could have continued to dribble into the paint and didn’t. I am guessing he lacks trust in his handle. And Jon, Mitchell, Mitchell Mitchell.
Robinson will be a beast. He's so athletic and so long and once he gets stronger, look out. He didn't show it today, but based on his workout videos he can also shoot it from the perimeter and behind the arc.
Knox could be an elite scorer. Wouldn't shock me if he averaged 20 points per game in his rookie year. I would've liked to see him hit more threes, but I'm sure that will come with time. His shooting stroke looked pretty damn good to this layman.
Dotson couldn't get many shots to go, but we already know how good and athletic he is and he will only get better.
Troy Williams is basically what we all wanted and expected Cleanthony Early to be. An above-the-rim, long, athletic, energizer bunny. His shot needs a lot of work though.
Trier made some nice plays. Seems like he has a nice handle for the most part and can shoot and drive well. I think he definitely has the chance to be an NBA player in the future.
And Frank...sigh. Well, he looks bigger? And it's nice to know he still can play defensive on the ball with the best of 'em. But he's still so passive and so ineffective on offense and I worry about his handle and court vision. So many stupid, unnecessary turnovers. He lacks a shot, lacks a handle, lacks vision, lacks confidence. I don't know...at least he's still very young and he seems like a very hard worker.

You have to calm down. You are doing what a lot of fans do. They get overly excited about Summer League. Knox is not going to be scoring 20 points a game as a 19 year old rookie. Robinson is still a long way from being a NBA player. The Knicks drafted him knowing he was going to spend most of next year in the G league.
I am glad there is now optimism with the Knicks. But now some fans will swing the other way and get overly optimistic. This is going to be a 3 year rebuild.

First off, nice to see you, Deej. I miss your contributions in Knicks and Rangers threads.
Second, with KP out, Knox is going to be our main offensive weapon (that is if THJ isn't a ball hog). I think he could absolutely put up close to 20 PPG in his rookie season.
Third, I agree on Robinson. He's probably going to spend a lot more time in the G-League than the NBA this year, but the potential is tantalizing.
Fizdale has already been working with Frank to get him to keep his dribble and penetrate more. But, as Jim noted, this was the first time playing with this group, so uncertainty isn't surprising. And Fizdale only started with him a few weeks ago.
I also see that his muscle tone is slightly better, but he still has quite a way to go.
will be in the G League. He was efficient and productive today in his first game in 14 months. The coach LOVES him and he's an arrow up guy. I don't think Kanter is a Fiz type, especially if he doesn't find some defensive chops. And I don't think Fiz will let Robinson out of his sight.
Robinson to get minutes and it might be best to give him minutes in the G league although something tells me Fizdale wants to work with him at practice every day
but he needs to get more agressive and push the ball, fizdale wants to run and use defense to create offense...

I know it will never happen, this is based on way too small of a sample size, and they'd get crushed, but I'd rather see the primary line-up be:
Burke (Only player on the team resembling a point guard)
Frank (Perimeter D and hopefully develops his shot)
Knox (Actually shows promise to be an all around player)
Robinson (Defensive anchor, able to switch onto smaller players)
Kornet (Stretch the floor on offense, boards and rim protection on defense.)
I'd like to let the young guys develop together and then KP would take Kornet's spot when he gets back. Again though, because Mario, THjr and Kanter are on the team, I know this would never happen.
That's a positive. I saw him a lot in college & think he's going to be a good pro.
That's good to hear because I think the knock on him by some people was that he was pretty one-dimensional. He was a talented scorer...and that's pretty much it. Almost Carmelo-like. He was a sub-par rebounder for most of the year, not a very good passer, kind of laissez-faire on defense...But he could shoot and drive to the hoop.

that is why i said watch his high school stuff, completely different player
a star. Frank may be a solid starter. Top notch "D" and competent with the rest of his game. What's wrong with that? They have to come up with another "star" to go with KP. The rest of a rotation has to be good players who compliment the stars. I see no reason why Frankie can't be one of those.
Current management clearly has a plan, and a clue, about roster building. I can see players like Burke, Hardaway, Williams being good bench players. Three starters like Frank, KP and Knox can cause a lot of problems on defense with their length and the latter two may be plus athletes for their positions. That fits with the coach. Credit to Mills/Perry for progress in. Cleaning up the. mess on several levels, putting a plan in place and working it.
from pretty much everyone except Frank. Im not burying Frank or anything, but he is a second year player in summer league, he should have dominated a bit more yesterday. His D will keep him as a solid pro for awhile, but id love to see more.
Knox looked great. He had a few shots that i thought were going to call which would have made his line look even more impressive. Even if he is just an elite scorer thats ok. His athleticism should make him a solid rebounder at least. If he can give the effort on D he should be avg at worst on D. Maybe he can be like Melo with worse offense (everyone craps on him but Melo was one of the best scorers in the league for a long time) but better defense.
Looking forward to seeing more Robinson as well. He moves so well for a guy his size.
recorded the Bulls-Cavs game to see Melo Trimble play a bit Â
Sexton looked pretty good for the Cavs. Aggressive taking to the rim, and his shooting touch should emerge. Wendell Carter jr. was an absolute beast especially on D for the Bulls. He was swatting shots all over the place. This draft looks really good at least 1-10.

carter and knox would of been higher picks if they went to different schools
but there are some big concerns, and he's young so not at all saying its final. He doesnt seem to understand the game at a high level. He has extremely impressive skills and physical tools. He can get by guys with his first step, but he doesn't seem to recognize defensive rotations at all. He'll draw a help defender and have guys wide open for mid-range shots or 3s and elects to take contested shots, unless he doesn't recognize the open player to begin with. He did it on many occasions yesterday and I've seen him do it at UK too.
Hopefully this part develops, it's not even crazy LeBron reads but just a matter of giving the ball up to the open guy in front of him. It won't prevent him from being a good player but he can really take his game to a high level as he is already at his best in the PnR.

part of that will come with jnowing his teammates and where they like to be on the court...
but i agree a ciuple of times he forced some shots at the rim and got bailed by a foul call
Athletic, big 18 year olds who are still growing into their frame NEVER understand the game at a high level. Name some who did.
Step one is to learn how to use your body. Step two is to learn how to score, and physically learn how to defend. Step three is to learn where to put your body in a variety of situations, relative to your teammates and opponents.
Btw, interesting re-draft for 2107 linked below. Knicks would have taken John Collins, Frank would have gone 14th. Biggest jumps would have been Mitchell and Kuzma. The biggest disappointment, imo, with what they got in Frank isn't his potential, it's what they could have had instead.

Thanks! I think the thing with Ntilikina is that we have to almost treat this coming year like his rookie year due to his age. He is still only 19 years old, and is within a few months of age with guys like DeAndre Ayton, Trae Young, Lonnie Walker, Collin Sexton, and Luka Doncic.
He has a lot more growing and developing to do. He is already there defensively, hopefully as he gains more experience he will become more aggressive and assertive on offense.

Frank’s also playing a much more difficult position, and one where knowing your teammates’ games is important.
Let’s see what he does this fall.
