dep026 : 7/8/2018 9:02 am
Pretty remarkable how fast they are getting them out. Been following this story for a while. Hope the rest get out.

Wow great news
Supposedly the water level is the lowest it's been
Scyber : 7/8/2018 9:12 am : link
That's why they are making such good progress. More passages are walkable and/or oxygen is not needed.
Just when you think humanity is declining and on the brink

something like this happens and brings out the best in everyone. Mankind can do remarkable things when we put our minds together and differences aside.

Keep gettin' em out!
Wonder if they'll even need Elon's submarine
widmerseyebrow : 7/8/2018 10:04 am : link
Sounds like they're doing it without.
maybe now we can figure out
Giantsfan79 : 7/8/2018 10:08 am : link
what the fuck they were doing there in the first place. My mom's convinced that coach is a pedophile.
Reports are differing
dep026 : 7/8/2018 10:13 am : link
Some say 4 boys total, others are saying an additional 4.

They may stop soon as rescuers are getting tired.
Good to hear.

Here's to a safe recovery for all.

Agreed. This is only happening because of phenomenal cooperation and coordination by the best from many nations. Hoping and praying everyone comes out alive. RIP to the Thai seal who died during the rescue attempt. God bless.
I think it's only 4 boys out right now
montanagiant : 7/8/2018 11:11 am : link
they need to restock the equipment and will get another 4 out Monday morning
Only 4 rescued.
redwhiteandbigblue : 7/8/2018 11:57 am : link
Rescue operation to re-start tommorrow if weather cooperates. The 4 saved were in the weakest shape so hopefully another night and the rest will be rescued.Slow process. 2 mile trip underwater and through spaces as tight as 15 inches in complete darkness.
Quite an amazing rescue
montanagiant : 7/8/2018 12:05 pm : link
Montana thanks for posting...that is insane..

I am a PADI certified advanced open water diver with 40 logged dives and I would be scared shitless to try that...
I'm looking at this rendering
Dave on the UWS : 7/8/2018 12:54 pm : link
and I can't imagine the guts these rescue divers must have? Holy crap!!
This
AcidTest : 7/8/2018 1:40 pm : link
is another great article that shows the incredibly difficult nature of the rescue operation:

These are probably some of the
section125 : 7/8/2018 4:31 pm : link
best divers in the world with total support and still having difficulties.

What were they doing there?
manh george : 7/8/2018 5:50 pm : link
There is general agreement that this was an initiation rite that had been done several times before. Go to the end of the cave and leave your name/initials on the wall. It may be a stupid idea, but it apparently didn't start with this particular assistant coach. The flash flood could not be anticipated, never having happened to the many other visitors to this particular cave system.
Pardon my ignorance as I haven’t been paying attention
BigBlue4You09 : 7/8/2018 6:08 pm : link
But how did they get so far into this cave and why is it so hard to rescue them? Did it flood/water rise after they got stranded there?
Yes floodwater came in
spike : 7/8/2018 6:29 pm : link
And they were stranded.

I dont trust caves.
But one section has a 15in opening.....that is not a cave one enters
George from PA : 7/8/2018 6:44 pm : link
That is absolutely crazy

Ok that’s what I figured and I just read the graphic so it all makes sense now. Crazy, safe to say this initiation will be eliminated.
George, it may be crazy, but it's a long-time tradition...
manh george : 7/8/2018 7:21 pm : link
and it has been repeated successfully for years. What made it worse is that the unexpected storm surge pushed them deeper into the caves. See the upper right of the big graphic earlier in this thread.
I have only found
mattyblue : 7/8/2018 8:09 pm : link
Articles saying 4 of them were out. I was out today but have been following this and hoping for the best.

I believe that as the flood waters rose in the cave their only option was to continue to go deeper and that meant going through that tight opening. They were not that deep when the rains started, they were about 1/2 mile in
Sounds like 3 more are out.

The whole situation stinks of fake news. Whow had the bright idea of playing soccer in a cave during monsoon season or some sh*t?

Yep. And to add to that, the monsoon season normally starts in July and they entered the cave on June 23rd. Unfortunately the rains came early this year.
