Except for 1st Round college players, pretty much every team keeps their crop of draftees in one of their short season leagues. College position players play maybe 3 times a week and pitchers play even less so don’t want to hurt development by playing them against players who are used to playing everyday and are acclimated to professional baseball

he has but.. he's 23 in December in the SAL with a 96 wRC+ striking out a ton. He's been very disappointing. A 3rd round college player shouldn't be struggling at 22/23 in the SAL.

of a joke than Tebow making the EL all-star game (I'm rooting for him) is Mazeika. .212/.311/.349... uh?
Sucks to see Dunn get rocked

he had previously put together a nice run.

Until he can get lefties out with greater consistency he is a bullpen arm at best
So we give up on a 22 year old as a starter
Shecky : 7/9/2018 10:41 am : link
Because he can’t get lefties out in 20 inning sample sizes?

not giving up on Dunn but I'm just about there on Lindsay. Last 10 games... .114, average down to .208, 16 k's over his last 35 ab's, 2 homers, 6 steals. He's been awful.

I commented on the game thread about the success TB has had during the Alderson regime.

I didn't have much luck with some quick google work, but is there anyone in TB that you think could be a good fit for Mets GM? Seems like these guys have done more with less and have managed to be respectable in the AL East. They are certainly willing to think outside the box too.

It’s scary, some still swear by him and are waiting for him to go go all Tommy Pham. I don’t know if they’re trying to protect their job/reputation - but they still rave about how he barrels it up blah blah blah. Bad news for a five o clock hitter is major league games start later than mi or league games...
All the best talent has already left

If you can’t judge what you already have in house, it scares the shit out of me to think how well they will judge outsiders talent

I suspect they stay in house but the top guy out there is probably Jason McLeod who is Theo's right hand man. A lot of people like Doug Harris from the Nats (he too had cancer), Dan Kantrovitz from the A's is highly thought of. I still would love to make a run at Oppenheimer. A guy who might fit what you are looking for is Matt Arnold. He's with the Brewers but came up with TB and finally wunderkind Chaim Bloom who went to Yale, works for TB and I think is still like 35 lol

In a phone conversation Saturday before the Rays-Mets game, assistant GM John Ricco talked about wanting to see what the club looks like, as in the next week-plus Syndergaard, Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes and Jason Vargas return, and if Michael Conforto and perhaps Kevin Plawecki could play better in the second half. This is being echoed throughout the front office. But that is at best a snapshot, and bad organizations make decisions off of snapshots.

Hence the debates

Since the beginning of 2017, Mets have I think the second or third WORST winning percentage in the entire league... yet still delusional...

You can't expect Ricco to say or do anything
Metnut : 7/9/2018 12:58 pm : link
differently than what he's doing. He's acting rationally once you understand that his motivations are entirely out of self-interest and self-preservation.

Think about it, he can't go to Jeff Wilpon and say that things are a mess, or go in there and starting blaming Alderson for things. If that was the case, ownership would just shitcan everyone and bring in an entirely new front office.

Ricco doesn't want to get fired and start applying for asst GM jobs elsewhere. He's been here for a while and a chance to be the GM of the Mets is something he's likely wanted for a while.

His only hope is that the team is able to play better in the second half. If the team finishes something like 41-35, he can go to ownership and say "see, we've just been unlucky with injuries! give me one offseason and we can be back in the mix playing meaningful games in september next year." That's his path forward to getting the job and keeping the status quo.
