NFT: Low Testosterone

NorwoodWideRight : 7/10/2018 9:31 am
This is a subject not too many guys would converse about freely. But, eh, I'll give it a shot. I've had a culmination of symptoms that resulted in me seeing my doctor recently. Among the symptoms have been extreme fatigue/exhaustion, trouble concentrating & difficulty losing weight.

I was actually pretty surprised at the results of my blood work. My testosterone (both total and free) are extremely low for a guy my age (one year away from the big five-oh).

I haven't talked to my doctor about the results yet. Before I push for replacement therapy or openly discuss it with my doctor, any guys here going through this brave enough to discuss their results with TRT or how they proceeded after testing?
I'm 74 with low energy and difficulty losing weight, so I had that

tested thinking it was low and it turned out to be slightly high.

had mine tested a couple of years ago due to diminished energy levels but found it was high. I'm pretty good about exercise, but think my energy levels were being affected by my diet, which I'm not always as good about.
I have a low T number, and still...

I am extremely manly.

I've been doing HRT for several years and every day apply a testosterone gel (AndroGel)to my upper arms. My levels are normal while using it but anything I say about improvements (fatigue, mood, libido, etc) could equally be psychological rather than physical. I swear, it helps my beer belly though.

If you start it, make sure they increase the frequency of your PSA testing though (I'm sure your doc will do that) because it can stimulate any nascent prostate cancer cells. My PSA showed are rapid rise a year or so after therapy (again, could be coincidental) and I eventually had to my prostate removed. Not saying that this will happen, but something to watch for. And....I'm no MD.
You poor bastards ...

Bill, thanks for that. Can you tell me how exercise results were before and after and muscle tone? I don't lift, just regular exercise. I've gotten a bit flabby over the past 2-3 years and diet and exercise haven't affected it.

Not a problem of mine (yet?), but it's probably difficult to talk about, and it shouldn't be.
while its no substitute

for meds there are some things you can do to elevate Test levels naturally. Some foods that are higher in healthy fats well as brief heavy weight training sessions. Im 59 and Im still in the high 600s so this strategy has worked for me. Of course these bring other risks but such is life when you get to be our age...

I'm pretty lazy so I can't really say. I've only recently started an exercise program so I don't have a "before" for comparison.
Try the Frank Thomas stuff

Neugenics.
It's actually quite common
BigBlue4You09 : 7/10/2018 10:36 am : link
My most recent tests came back a little low so the doc has me on 25 mg injections every week. They make it in gel and patch forms as well but they are much more expensive. I have to go back soon to have my levels rechecked.

Or you could just set some money on fire.

Is there a stigma with TRT? It's like the most popular optional Rx out there for men. Celebrities talk about taking it.

I'm 50 and had my testoterone
Now Mike in MD : 7/10/2018 1:26 pm : link
measured. It was 680, which is really good. Whether that's my genetics or what I do, I do not know. However, this is my routine:

lift 3 days a week. Never do reps over 5. Low rep, heaving weight helps T count
When I do aerobic 2x a week, it's always HITT
I do Intermittent fasting always
When lifting, try to do it in a fasted state increases T count and HGH levels significantly
Take lot of zinc
Take lots of grape seed extract

Good luck!

Intermittent fasting
Be careful about getting too high a level of T
tangled up in blue : 7/10/2018 3:07 pm : link
My brother has been dealing with prostate cancer and the Drs at Sloan-Kettering have him on medication to lower T level. They have told him that a high T level correlates with increased prostate cancer risk.
