NFT: HBO’s Sharp Objects

This looks like a keeper to me. Dark, creepy, claustrophobic. Adams was really good in the first episode, I would imagine she gives a great performance throughout. The soundtrack is really good so far too. Anybody else catch episode 1?
Half way through right now..

Seems like a winner.

On a side note Succession was great this week.
I read a depressing article

about how AT&T wants HBO to produce more material at the expense of quality -- to shed its "boutique" image -- to be more profitable.
Episode One had me hooked

Can't wait to see where this goes. Amy Adams was amazing.

I am also bummed about the news that AT&T wants to water down HBO's quality over quantity approach. Wish I could say I am surprised by short term pursuit of profit ruining something good.
Hbo will quickly lose subscribers if that happens

And good projects will be made elsewhere (Netflix, Amazon, showtime, etc). I wouldn’t worry about it, there’s too much competition to put out weak prime programming.

As for the OP, the premier was excellent. Amy Adams is one of the best actresses in Hollywood and is smokin hot, win win. I have no idea what route this show will go but I’m guessing it won’t be your typical murder mystery.
I think AT&T is right

HBO is still run like they are stuck in the 80s or 90s when they were the big dog and if you wanted to see a movie you either had to rent one or go to HBO.

They are no longer a monopoly and more of a smaller fish in a big pond where their one trick is they produce quality. They are a boutique and today providing steady content and allowing big corps to amass data (unfortunately) is the name of the game. Adapt or die.

I know several people who have HBO NOW and they turn on their subscriptions for say a Game of Thrones or maybe WestWorld and when those series seasons are over they turn off their subscriptions. That not going to fly in today’s media. HBO has to step up and may need to be shaken up

As for Sharp Objects I caught some of it and it seemed a bit slow but I planned to re watch.
I normally don't like

shows with frequent flashbacks that gradually become clearer and clearer, but they pulled it off, Adams was great, I'll watch this season.

Yes and like some of the others showtime, etc, remove the politics and agenda based shows. People want to be entertainment and an escape, not propaganda and mumm preaching to them.
