I use Avast Free as my anti-virus and I use Malwarebytes Premium. I haven't had a known computer issue is the past few years so I guess either I am lucky or smart using these two products......knock on wood. Malwarebytes - ( New Window )
You can run the FREE version of Malwarebytes alongside McAfee, because the free version has no real-time protection. You definitely do not want to run multiple solutions that have real-time protection capabilities, as you will encounter performance problems and possibly even system crashes.
Also, the term "malware" refers to all MALicious softWARE. Most if not all "antivirus" solutions including McAfee attempt to protect you from all malicious items.
Get rid of McAfee all together and just run one of Bitdefender's paid solutions - they consistently win awards for efficacy, performance, and low false positives.
