Wade is a possibility. Or Drury. Or someone not even on the radar right now.

I dont think Didi will age all that well and think the Yanks will have gotten his best years out of him and they are going to have to make some tough decisions and he will be a guy I think they will let leave and take the draft pick

Frazier, Drury, and German for Machado/Britton doesn't make much sense. Where does Andujar go?

Also, I don't think the money works.
he can say all he wants
MookGiants : 7/11/2018 9:06 pm : link
if he gets traded to the Yankees his only place to play is 3B. His tune will change quickly
Didi will be 30
MookGiants : 7/11/2018 9:07 pm : link
in the offseason of 2019. It won't be easy but they can't pay all of these guys and he seems like a good candidate to let walk.
I don't get it
adamg : 7/11/2018 9:08 pm : link
He's a gold glove 3B and a mediocre SS. Why would he insist on being mediocre in the field?
I don't see how you can pencil Wade in as a starter
Greg from LI : 7/11/2018 9:08 pm : link
And they've said repeatedly that they see Drury as a 3B, although who knows how committed they are to that
They have 18 months
MookGiants : 7/11/2018 9:12 pm : link
to figure out who would play 2nd.

I don't think paying 30 year old Didi a ton of money when they will have to start paying other guys shortly after that will be a smart business decision.
.
arcarsenal : 7/11/2018 9:13 pm : link
Machado just wants SS money - that's why he's saying that. Obviously he'll play 3B here.

I'd be fine moving on from Didi and moving Torres to SS - Drury can play 2B, that's really his position.

But I still don't understand how it works with Andujar if he's not part of a deal for Machado. There's nowhere to put him.

Unless they trade Didi and keep Andujar. Seems the smarter move, imo.

Andujar goes to the Mets along with Estrada, Sheffield and Chance Adams for DeGrom of course...

Sonny was even better than I thought - I was pretty close though. I think I said 6 innings, 1-2 runs. He did even better.

Maybe Road Gray is back. I'll take that at this point - better than the always shitty version we've had lately.

Yeah. Greg went off on Romine maybe last week because the backup catcher was starting to suck pretty bad. To your point, he's been better over the past few games and it coincides with Greg's rant.

He looked pretty locked in tonight. You can see him jumping on pitches in way that he wasn't earlier in the year.
Up to .274 now.

heyman reporting orioles and yankees are talking after strong offer from yankees and no roadblocks from ownership that says orioles will not trade him to yabkees...

this feels a lot like stanton where no one believed it and cashman swooped kn and got it done

You don't have to move either guy. You can send Andujar down to AAA and bring him back up when rosters expand.

Was watching the MASN broadcast and Jim Palmer noted that Gray is now 3-0 against the O's.

Maybe the Yanks should get a sports shrink/hypnotist to convince Gray that every team he is facing is the Os.

Sure, that wasn't really my point though. Bench and AAA could be used in the same vein there. Either player is too big of an asset at this point where you have to move them or you play them every day in the majors. Guys in the running for rookie of the year do not get sent down to the minors. Didi with a WAR of 2.4 same as Machado can't ride the bench.

Bill2 : 7/12/2018 6:16 am : link
imo, there is only two ways Machado significantly helps them and that is if they have the outline of a trade for a good SP worked out already. Or its a straight line Machado for Andujar trade. ( which is a lot to pay for a rental unless you know both parties are amenable after that)

If Machado plays 3B (and could play SS) then they added a much better OBP player and a better fielder who can play either position.

Mike Francessa arguing they are two right handed misses two things:

1) They have some guys who can hit either righties or lefties and who can hit opposite field ( Sanchez, Judge, Stanton)

2) Its harder to shift for right handers especially with a men on the bases already.

Id honestly like them to get 2 SP for just depth and a left handed RP. If they did then pen arms are fresh ( rememeber they have a very condensed schedule the rest of the way without many days off) and they can pace German, Loasiga and Sheffield.

Most importantly with 2sp and 1 more Rp ( even if one is pure depth) then they go into the offseason in very good shape.

All that said, there is something about the Machado noise that strikes a false note...either signaling him, driving the price up or getting other trade targets to the table.

Of and by itself, without other trades, it does not strike me that such a trade wins the East this year. imo

I like Boone but he's brought some of that on himself with a few head scratching moves that lost them games IMO.

You said it only makes sense if Andujar is traded. Well, that is not true. And AAA os not the same as being on the bench. He'll continue to play at AAA. Machado is a half year rental at the point so Andujar can be insurance if Machado doesn't sign a long term deal here or Andujar can be used to get a SP in the offseason/next year. Nothing HAS to be done right now in terms of trading him. The SP market is weak right now. I'd rather hang onto Andujar as insurance instead of just dumping him for a SP that seems like a shitty SP at this moment based on who is available.

Now, if it were up to me I wouldn't trade for Machado in the first place but if they do that doesn't mean Andujar has to be traded immediately or even this year. Relax.
It's fun for me to try and think along with Cashman
arniefez : 7/12/2018 7:59 am : link
from now until the trade deadline. Here's what I think is happening.

He thinks it's highly unlikely he can trade for a difference making pitcher at a price he's willing to live with.

It's likely he can trade for an innings eater who is league average at best without giving up much more than rule 5 guys who they won't protect. But that won't impact the post season.

He thinks Machado can impact the division race and the post season and the long term. He upgrades the defense at 3B upgrades the offense at 3B and doesn't strike out much.

Driving up the price helps the Orioles so that's not his goal. But driving up the price will eliminate the Red Sox because they're out of trade chips. Eliminating the Red Sox is probably much more important to him than the Orioles getting a few better players.

The Yankees literally could trade for any player in baseball if they wanted to. No team has more trade chips between MLB and MiLB. But that means making everyone available in trades which the Yankees wouldn't and shouldn't do.

It must be fun to be Brian Cashman even with all the pressure that comes with the job.
