Wagering on the Giants 2018 Performance

Mark from Jersey : 7/11/2018 6:10 pm
Is it possible in New Jersey to bet for the Giants to:

1) Win the division

2) Over & Under on Wins

I am not sure what the odds are for Win the Division. I have seen +450 and +600 on some sites (Not sure what that means exactly...4.5 to 1? 6 to 1?

I have seen the over under set at 6.5.
I'd go over on 6.5 wins simply because I'm a HOMER - LOL

The Giants offense, if healthy, should score a lot of points and keep the defense fresh.

But we'll also give up a lot of points, likely anyway, given our lack of pass rush.

I'm not a gambler, always lost when I did, so there!
The over is a decent bet

They have some competitive athletes at every level of the defense and at every position on offense. You also have to like that Shurmur's offense produced a great deal last year in Minnesota with a very average QB, and that the Giants have more to work with in terms of the skill position players than Minnesota did last year. Minnesota also had a good offensive line, and the Giants offensive line will need to gel. There is good reason to believe they can win 7 games or more. I think this is a very balanced team, but the addition of Saquon Barkley is going to allow them to win games by holding on to the ball in the 4th Quarter.
I would take the over

Especially given the fact that there is zero film on us in a modified 3-4 Defense
Serious question

for someone who has never really placed a bet before.

How do you even go about this? Do I have to go to Jersey or Delaware?
The problem
mitch300 : 7/11/2018 9:56 pm : link
with the over/under bets is the payoff. I like to do it every year. The payouts sucked. It was like -130 for over. I never bet under. So it's not as simple as will the Giants win 7 games, it's how much are you willing to bet and the payoff. Also if the over/under is a even number and they hit that number, you get your original bet back.
Take the under
Joey in VA : 7/11/2018 10:32 pm : link
This team isn't coming out of the gate beating the almost AFC Champs against a coach they booted out and pretended they didn't. We'll be better by week 8 or so but new offense, new defense, new everything and opponents primed for playoff runs we'll be lucky to win 6 games. We'll compete but it will take until November to gel.
I'm with Joey. One more year before we contend, and that's

if Eli stays for 2019/20.
wagering on the Giants is insane -

it's bad enough just being a fan of the Giants.

Cogent point about installing new systems . They take time to learn. That’s why the turn-around model most people use-the ‘16 Cowboys-doesn’t really apply. They had the same systems in place; they were using them with younger, healthier players.

The Giants should win something like 6 of their last 10. The problem is can they split the first four while getting up to speed with the newness of what they are doing ? Doubtful.

It takes time. The paradox that they face is, however, Manning doesn’t have time.

Could be worse, you could be a J-E-T-S fan!
If the Giants
joeinpa : 7/12/2018 8:14 am : link
Only win 7 games, that would be very disappointing.

It s one thing to go 7-9 with a young quarterback in place, building for the future, like they did with Eli.

But committing to Eli I have to believe the Giants think they can win now.

This time as bad as they were last year and all the injuries
fredgbrown : 7/12/2018 10:55 am : link
could have possibly won 6 games last year..the first Philly game rookie kicker hits a 61 yarder...the Chargers and Bucs games. It was nice getting the 2 pick in the draft but their is a lot of parity in the NFL. I can see Barkly and Odell taking a couple to the house on opening day.I just hope the defense holds up.
Take the over 6.5
Coach Red Beaulieu : 7/12/2018 12:13 pm : link
Parity says a team should be 8 by default, jettisoned a bad head coach, schemes, FO and culture, and the anti-Eli sentiment made you a lot of money betting Giants on their two SB runs.
I believe betting on the Giants is allowed in New Jersey
njm : 7/12/2018 12:29 pm : link
The ban seems to only be on colleges located in New Jersey so you can't bet against Rutgers and give the points.
I did put $20 on Giants 30-1 to win the Super Bowl
AJ23 : 7/12/2018 12:41 pm : link
the other week in Delaware because, why not. Was a little peeved I wasn't getting the 35-1 I saw in other places at the time, but the excitement of legal sports betting got to me.

Agree with the comment about there being more to consider than the wins total. According to oddsshark, the Giants over/under is still at 6.5 wins, but it's -170 on the over -- which is terrible. Tied with the Rams (9.5 wins, -170 over) for the worst return on the overs. For the under, it's +140 for the Giants -- tied for the best.

If all things were even, I'd definitely take over 6.5. But I'm not throwing out $170 just to make $100 on it. I'm also not throwing out $100 on the under to make $140.
Without the injuries last year
Don in DC : 7/12/2018 2:35 pm : link
the Giants were much better than a 3-13 team. Moreover, this roster and coaching staff are substantially improved compared to the roaster that started last season.

I agree with Joey that it will take time to gel, but if the team stays healthy, I could see them going on a serious second half run and winning 9 or 10 games total. I would take the over at 6.5
In fact
Don in DC : 7/12/2018 2:38 pm : link
I think it's quite possible that the Giants win every game after the bye.

The problem is that its also quite possible that they lose every game before the bye too.

Why does it seem like every year the Giants start 0-6 or 1-5 before the season is halfway over...

Really? If they go 7-9 I would think they are moving in the right direction. They won 3 games last year. ... 3! Do you think we were better than our record showed last year? I don't think you go from 3 wins to playoff contention in 1 season. I could be wrong.

What kind of win/lost record are you expecting this year?

It doesn’t always take time. Plenty of first year head coaches have had success both here and elsewhere.

bet on the Giants ------ its a lose lose proposition
I predict 6-10 this year
giantstock : 7/14/2018 11:15 pm : link
I wouldn't bet on it. I never bet on my team to lose. But I can see a 6-10 season with for example a surprising victory over Jags or Saints only to lose vs the colts.

I expect 2-4 in the division.
I got my FWB to agree to a day trip to LV (haven't picked a day yet)

What she doesn't know is that my main purpose was to place some futures bets on the Giants. Gonna hunt for the best odds on winning the Super Bowl, winning the NFC Championship, winning the division, and winning on opening day (currently seeing +3 1/2).

I have been a Giants fan a LONG TIME and all I can say is this team is like a box of candy, you never know what your going to get.
