In reviewing the giants offseason one thing that would have been very interesting to see is what the giants would have done had they signed norwell?
In hindsight, it seems odd that the Giants were intent on signing him before solder in the first place. While younger, and probably better, was it a smart plan? The draft was guard heavy and we were able to seemingly get a starter at the top of rd 2. There wasnt a LT in the draft capable of starting at LT.
Would they have perhaps used Ohmameh $ on a RT? Were they prepared to play Flowers at LT again?
In hindsight, the Jags may have saved the Giants from having the worst tackles in football.
And who was your RT?
With Norwell gone, they signed the best LT on the open market and then struck gold with Hernandez.
If all goes to plan, only C remains on the to do list.
Huh? Norwell wouldnt have been on last years team so I'm not sure what you're post means
I think Giants were in on Norwell. Why wouldn't they be? But Solder was getting signed regardless.
Not sure how much attention was given to that particular scenario just because of where we were picking in the first. I also believe most felt Hernadez wouldn't have been available at our second round pick. I think the only way we would have drafted Nelson is if we traded back meaning Barkley was taken number one overall and there was a deal that we liked better than Chubb. If that played out and we drafted Nelson in the first then most likely we would have gotten another first somewhere. In that situation, I could see us drafting another OL in the first or early second especially since we would have had extra picks.
I think it worked out for the best. The Giants didn't need the BEST guard in free agency. They needed the most reliable offensive linemen available. Whoever signed Norwell almost had to release a starting guard. Omameh is a lot better than a lot of people think.
Williams was projected to be a guard in the NFL & that's where the Cowboys are playing him.....

But Conner Williams was an excellent left tackle prospect selected by the Cowboys early in round two. Other than that, I imagine the plan was to have Flowers and Wheeler competing at left tackle.

The tale of two tapes: The 2016 game film for Williams shows a future top-20 draft pick, but his 2017 tape was a combination of uneven play and injuries, leading to concerns and questions. Half the league will have him on the board as a guard and the other half at tackle.

The Longhorns have not produced a first-round pick on offense since Vince Young was selected No. 3 overall by Tennessee in 2006, but Williams should end that streak. Williams is a bit of a throwback, showing the power and aggression as a run blocker that scouts covet, along with the athleticism, balance and girth to stone pass rushers. Average arm length (33 inches) could push Williams inside to guard in the NFL.

we likely win a couple more games with Norwell but still have a shit season. Maybe we don’t have the franchise overhaul because of it. IMO, hitting rock bottom needed to happen.

Jeez, I read the OP wrong. Thought we were talking about Whitworth vs Solder, haha
