McAdoo "needed to be better for OBJ"

JamesStPatrick : 7/12/2018 2:18 pm
The guy didn't care about the Giants (no shit, they robbed him of 2 SB rings in GB)...it was all about glorifying his star WR

In the upcoming debut column for Peter King on NBC Sports, former New York Giants coach Ben McAdoo tells the long-time sports columnist that he feels he let down star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

“I needed to be better for him personally, as a coordinator and head coach,’’ McAdoo tells King. “I was too busy trying to scheme ways to get him the ball, especially early in my time in New York, that I didn’t step back and see the big picture the way I should have.”

It's nice to see a hint of some insight

hopefully McAdoo can rehabilitate his image as I think he has the ability to be a competent to very NFL position coach.
How much time
giants#1 : 7/12/2018 2:20 pm : link
could those schemes have really taken?
*very good NFL position coach

Dancing with the stars is next fo r him?
If not for Odell's ability to turn a 6 yard slant into a 70 yard TD,
shockeyisthebest8056 : 7/12/2018 2:26 pm : link
McAdoo doesn't get that job in the first place.
I don't actually know what the statement means
Bill L : 7/12/2018 2:26 pm : link
is he saying that he needed to look out for him more because of the perceptions about his behavior but was too busy working on schemes or is he talking more globally about him being better for the team as a coach but was too focused on OBJ?

I'm not even sure what McAdoo means, but at least he stopped blaming Eli for something.
He needed to be better
GiantsRage2007 : 7/12/2018 2:31 pm : link
Period.
If he was scheming to get OBJ the ball
averagejoe : 7/12/2018 2:48 pm : link
he is an even bigger failure than I thought. OBJ only had one play - a slant.

Not sure how this guy even got an interview for HC. When TC left so did our offense.

He will never coach in NFL again.
He just cannot stop being

The biggest bonertron in existence. What a fucking tool.

Yea, its ODB you let down, not your 2 time super bowl winning QB who got screwed over by your repetitive formations and horrendous in game adjustments you Emperor Penguin-looking, doofy ass bag.

Die in a fire Macapoop.

I am not sure I will ever stop loathing BM
TeamSchlitz1 : 7/12/2018 3:46 pm : link
What a disaster he was. I really don't get how an "offensive guru" ran the same formation 97% of the year. The fact that we made the playoffs in his first year is NUTS. The players mutiny and his Eli shit last year really stamped my hatred for him.
He's right.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/12/2018 3:47 pm : link
He failed Beckham big time.
He's acknowledging that
CT Charlie : 7/12/2018 4:22 pm : link
he was more of an X's and O's guy, while a head coach -- and maybe even a position coach -- needs to be a people-person first. And even McAdoo haters have to acknowledge that OBJ may not be the easiest guy to handle, especially in the NY media circus.

Perhaps you should read the entire article before commenting. You just wished death upon a guy because he wasnt a good football coach.
Well, in his defense
Gman11 : 7/12/2018 4:48 pm : link
He may have fixated on OBJ because there were no other playmakers on offense. Who else was there to get the ball to?

However, to say that he let down OBJ is kind of a stupid remark. He let down the New York Giants not just one player.

Its one line from an entire interview. And probably in response to a question specifically about OBJ.

As Snacks above stated, why dont you wait for the entire interview to come out before breaking out the pitchforks.

Well isn't your post just peachy. What a short memory you have.

In 2014 and 2015, with Mcadoo as offensive coordinator, Eli Manning had two of his best seasons.

He set a career high in TDs with 35 in 2015, highest completion percentage of his career, and highest qb rating, at 93.6.

If anything Mcadoo helped re energize Eli's career, after the disaster of 2013
McAdoo

Was largely, but not entirely, responsible for the dismal offense last year. That being said I wish him well as a person and would be gald to hear when he gets another coaching job. He might be a better college coach than an NFL coach. No shame in being a good college coach for a big school and the money is not bad either.

Maybe he can try and turn around the Rutgers dumpster fire. I didn't like him as a coach but wish him the best in whatever he does next

I didnt read a word of the article and I wished death upon him because of his hair cut.

Lighten up, Im kidding. Seriously, I didnt read a word of the article because the premise of it that is quoted annoyed me.

Our offense has been the New York Beckhams for a few years.
LOL, he "missed the big picture"
PatersonPlank : 7/12/2018 6:32 pm : link
like the whole team crumbling around him? Just shows that even though he had the title of Head Coach, he was still operating as an OC.
Jeez
UberAlias : 7/12/2018 7:33 pm : link
It’s a bit foolish to criticize him for saying he let down Odell rather than Eli or the Giants without having any context for the quote. Maybe he was asked a direct question about Odell. Maybe he did say he he let down Eli (probably not, but perhaps) or the team, but that wasn’t quoted.

The man is admitting to mistakes and acknowledging he let the star wide receiver down. Without any further context, can you honestly find fault in that?

We've been over this so many times:

McAdoo was running TC's offense. When he became HC and instituted his offense, the production went to shit.

I've already detailed several times how we went from being a team with the most 20+ yard plays to being a team with among the least. How we ran the same personnel grouping over 90% of the time with Mac. How we threw one of the fewest percentages of seam passes, even though we often faced a Cover 2.

The differences were stark.
The second coming of Ray Handley...

and so many of us knew he would be a bad hire even before the Giants made the announcement.
