Boone has done similar stupid moves like this all year. Sits guys who are hot right after a really good game. He's done it to Sanchez at least three tims, two of them being a game right after hitting a huge HR, i.e., Houston and Seattle.
Sat Bird after a good game, Stanton and Judge too, and now Wade tonight. I just don't get the thinking behind it. Most managers want to keep their guys in a hot groove and ride them. Boone for whatever reason lets them cool off with a night on the bench.
Jacoby Ellsbury.
Womp, womp.
I thought that too. If it’s somewhere, it’s in there deep as, Walker is 0-3 with a K against Kluber lifetime.
It's not like any of the times he's done it guys were overused and needed a day off, and once again tonight with Wade, that's the case. The guy doesn't need a rest so that's not why he's sitting.
Could be a playoff-type game tonight. Nice to have a burner available on the bench.
(BTW, now that I've complained about this, I'm certain Walker will have a good night.)
I hope you're right.
My point isn't really about who is playing in place of Wade, it's why is he sitting after a hot night at the plate, and a couple of really good fielding plays too?
What's the thinking behind sitting a player who's hot, and isn't injured or needs a rest?

You are forgetting that Boone has the ability to see into the future. Never forget that.
Yeah this should be a good one. I'm looking for Sevy to make a statement tonight. Not that he hasn't been doing that all year, I just think he wants to be the best in the game, and out pitching an Ace makes a nice statement in that regard.
Kluber's tough though and while I hope you're right about the long balls, I'm not counting on it. Another reason I wanted Wade in there. I could see him legging out an infield hit, stealing a base and then scoring a big run.

Haha. That's gotta be it!
Hell he did it twice in Baltimore, (looking ahead to the next game) and it bit him in the ass. Maybe this time he gets it right.

If I had to think of a reason why Wade is on the bench tonight as opposed to Walker, it would be because this is likely to be a low-scoring affair that might need a PR late in the game- like Sunday.
If that's the case, Wade makes more sense on the bench than Walker. Wade on 2B can score easily on a single- anyone else not named Gardner might have a tougher time- and one run might decide this game.

I don’t mind seeing him get a night off against Kluber. Walker’s got a bit more professional approach right now.

Makes sense but I' would've liked to see him get 3-4 ABs vs Kluber and increase his chances of being on base and scoring that run.
Maybe Boone thinks Walker has a better shot of jacking one than Wade would of getting on vs Kluber?
Side note - I think Jose Ramirez is the most underrated player in the entire sport. No one seems to talk about this guy and he's an absolute stud.
Just as he gives up the HR tp Encarnacion.
Jeez, that's annoying and the guy never shuts the hell up, kinda like Sterling. Lol. Here's hoping the YES crew can figure out how to filter that so we don't have to hear it all night.

Yeah, he hasn't been his absolute sharpest very recently. Ups and downs of a long season.

Yes! Although it sounds to me more like John Sterling doing play-by-play.

You could be right because he definitely never shuts up like Sterling but I thought I heard him promo a local Cleveland car dealership. Maybe it was just a NYC area town I didn't recognize but the good thing is appears to be gone now.
Tie game.
Pretty much - but Ed Encarnacion is still a pretty big power threat. Always a safe bet to hit 35-40 dingers.
Heck of an AB.
They finally made Kluber throw some pitches, and Gardy cashed in.

Yep - there's the long ball.
Kluber is as good as it gets - but if there's one place you can get to him this year, it's by parking one in the seats. He's having a little trouble with that this year. So, I figured if we were going to get on the board against him, that's probably how we'd have to do it.
Need Sevy to hold serve now and get into a groove.

Yeah good call on that.
Looks like we'll need a couple more of those. Either that or just get his pitch count up and get into their pen. We need to work him some more.
His offspeed stuff not good and that is what they are hitting.
As Didi bombs Kluber..3-3 tied again.

Encarnancion (sp) didn't hit an offspeed pitch for his HR.

Certain on that? Anyway, if it was, it is only one of 8 or 9.
Maybe they're getting some help from one of those cameras out there in RF.
Leiter mentioned something about it in passing but didn't say for sure that's what was happening.
Bird misses a 3 run homer by a foot and we wind up getting nothing else, fuck
He hit a bullet. Just happened to be right at the 1B. Hard to blame him.
Romine' s the one to be annoyed with.
Because he crushed that pitch?

Agree about the bad Romine AB and the first pitch. Not that I personally could do it, but that looked ripe just to take the other way for an opposite field single.

Yes.
You're right though, they're hitting his change up but they're hitting everything else too. It's not like that's the only pitch he's throwing as even his outs have been hit hard. It's more a lack of him not having his pinpoint control with anything as of yet,IMO.

I would love that

Agreed. All you can ask for is to hit it hard and Walker hit a scorcher. Sometimes you get the bear and other times the bear gets you.
Romine has to do a better job there no question. A couple of those balls were up enough I thought he could've gotten a fly ball out of.
That was a fat fastball...
Oh, he is. But there is something just annoying about him. Something unlikeable.
I wasn't implying that he wasn't a good player. I was saying he's fucking annoying as shit because they never get him out during the regular season.
Somehow they locked him completely down during the playoffs.

He was trash in the playoffs after talking a whole lot of Twitter bullshit. It was glorious.
This one game? What about the Oriole game the other night with all the RBIs and extra base hits.
99.9% of the board never said anything about Romine as starter when Sanchez is on the team.
He must really like Toronto because his last 3 starts (since trade spec) have been abominable.
Yay, more Neil Walker.
tick tock
Yeah it's frustrating. Haven't played Cleveland yet, and they have another series with Houston. They rarely lose to shitty teams, and we do - that's the difference so far.
Because he hit well for 3.5 weeks before Bird was called up. They're probably hoping he can recapture it. I'm over it... he needs to go. He's probably not completely washed up yet, but he's clearly not used to being a bench player.

needs to go. Why they continue to run him out there is beyond me.

He had 6 XBH's in May and hit .294, big freaking deal. They are hurting the team by keeping him on the roster. In April, June, and July he has been one of the worst players in the entire sport
He can't play on this team. I dont know if its not playing every day or if he's just shot, but it's clear to everyone except cashman and boone apparently.
Drury should be playing 2nd base every day until Torres is back.

or Wade.
Without disagreeing, you have to admit that the strike three pitch by Kluber was a helluva pitch.
It seems everything goes to right as a big fly.
5-4
5-4
Finding CF outside of Trout with Hicks' skill set is not easy
No doubt. Thought for sure that change up would get him but he knew it was coming and crushed it.
Extremely underrated.
If Gary can get back in and be even 75% of himself, the machine is really going to start humming.
This is going to be a tough series, but I’m feeling a little 16-of-20 type surge coming out of the break.
Between that and bringing Kluber out for the 8th...
Ask and you shall receive.
;)
Jynxie cat jynxie cat where are you?
Yeah, and it's why I really hope Cash is working the phones for any good reliever that might become available. Lock our pen down, and keep any other top AL team from improving theirs.
Hes my favorite player....he better be. Def extemd a CC-like deal.
Yep. 30 games over .500 too.
Let's take two of the next three, keep it there, and shoot for 35 over out of the break.

The Indians pen is awful. It's Cody Allen and a lot of trash with Miller shelved. Some of these relievers are fucking terrible.

Zach Britton would fit the bill and have the Yanks move on from Chasen Tyler, I mean Shreve.

Yeah he'd be an upgrade over Shreve but I'm not sure he's the Britton of old.
I'd be more interested to see if Hand is available and what would it take to get him. He won't come cheap if he's available at all but we have the pieces. He'll be a replacement for Robbie next year as well as keeping him away form other teams this year. I'd definitely be inquiring if he's on the block because if he is, and Houston gets him, that's trouble. Indians or Boston too but don't think the Sox have enough to get him.

He's not and doesn't need to be. He's not closing. He'd be the lefty guy in the 6th or 7th.

I realize he wouldn't be closing but I'm talking more about getting a huge out in a big spot come playoff time. Not sure I'd have the confidence in him I would've had in years past.
I'd rather try and go for better but wouldn't be pissed if he took Shreve's spot if we couldn't do better.

Absolutely, I felt the same way. To battle like that against Kluber is huge, especially with Sevy not being at his best. That’s a great win to set the tone to start a tough series, while Boston keeps the pressure on us.
Biggest thing for me from this week is Bird is starting to get hot. I’ve certainly been skeptical, but can’t forget that when he came back last season he took some time to get on track. He had a couple really good ABs tonight, following up a good series at the plate in Baltimore
Finally had a game where those borderline pitches were turning counts in our favor, especially late in the game. The walk to DiDi was huge
