NFT: Nets Trade Jeremy Lin

looie : 7/13/2018 10:37 am
To Atlanta for Isaiah Cordinier (?) and the 2 teams also swap some future year draft picks. They also trade Whitehead to Denver for Ken Faried (expiring contract) and Denver's 1st round pick next year.

Sorry to see Lin go but I like both deals. Injuries 2 consecutive years prevented Lin from getting on the court for any appreciable length of time. Trading both frees up the logjam in the backcourt (DRussell, LeVert, Dinwiddie, Harris, Crabbe, etc.)

Clearly Marks is looking towards '19 when the team will FINALLY have its own 1st round draft pick again plus a ton of cash to spend since they'll be way under the cap. One more year to grind through, then hopefully a big step forward.
The Nets

could be big players next FA, but I don't get the sense that Brooklyn is a big destination for most guys. It feels to me kind of like the Knicks when they got Amare in 2010. I could see them giving someone like Boogie and Kemba the max.
Does this help or hurt a deal for Melo?

Just curious.
it makes a melo deal

impossible.

The nets will need to see develop from their young core (RHj, Russell, Crabbe, Levert, Harris & Allen) If they can be a surprise team they'll be armed with two drafts picks and enough $ for two max slot players.

As a net fan they've finally reached a point where there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sean Marks has done excellent. Here are his trades.

"In the Marks tenure, Brooklyn has now turned Thaddeus Young into LeVert and a second-round pick, Bojan Bogdanovic and Chris McCullough into Allen while flipping Andrew Nicholson to Portland for Crabbe, and Justin Hamilton for DeMarre Carroll and two draft picks (Dzanan Musa and Rodions Kurucs). Marks also acquired Russell and Timofey Mozgov for Brook Lopez and Kyle Kuzma, with the eventual unloading of Mozgov’s contract and Dwight Howard’s buyout this summer enabling the Nets to make the deal with Denver."

very impressive move.
this season will be good for development and then have space and picks...
Knicks and Nets will battle fiercely for a top draft pick this year

then the tide will hopefully turn for both franchises.
Marks is a magician

if someone said 2 years ago when he was hired he'd be able to add:

- 3 first round picks in a time period where he owned 0 of his own
- also somehow acquire Russell
- also acquire a 2nd first round pick in 2019
- preserve cap room for 2 maxes
- all while not giving up the 1 good young player he had (RHJ)

Really unbelievable job. To top it off, Allen and Levert were 2 good first round picks who in combo with RHJ, Russell, Crabbe and Dinwiddie give us something decent to build on going forward. I'd sign right now for Marks as GM of any team I root for in any sport.
Nets also traded for Faried

Basically taking on salary dump from Denver.

Nets also acquired 2 picks in the trade including Denver's 1st next year, top 12 protected.

Less of a headline than the Lin trade, but probably a better trade for the nets.

Quietly going about his business and doing an incredible job. He has put together a good team with young talent that is VERY well setup for the future. They now have all their picks and money to go along with it.

They also have a very good chance to evaluate the young talent further this year to see if they have legit keepers in guys like RHJ, Harris, Levert, Dinwiddie, and Russell.

Also have what could end up being a Top 5 Center in Allen if he continues to progress. The dude JUST turned 20.
