Don't really want to trade an unprotected 2019 pick. As of right now we are looking at a possible top 3 pick and can then go after Butler in FA.

Definitely, the wise move is to wait until free agency. A rebuilding team should not trade a potential top 5 pick for a player they can get in a year during FA.
THJ and 2020 1st to clear salary so that we can fit two maxes.
Trade Lee this year with a second or two to whoever will take him.
Stretch Noah whenever.
Go hard after Kyrie and Durant.
Think this is the right way to go, i'd also add that we should make sure we will be using the cap room before we pull the trigger on the trades. Don't want to lose that first round pick and get left with space or worse use it on people that aren't worth the $$$$

I don't think we will have to package anything with Lee to get rid of him. He is a SG who shoots 40% from the 3 and plays D. Some playoff team will come knocking come the trade deadline (assuming he is healthy) and will take him off our hands hopefully for an expiring
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Coming off years of ineptitude and continually trading 1st round picks, I think that someone would be embarrassed to suggest trading a 1st and this proposal is even unprotected. Are you trolling or what?

Stop with the trolling comment. Trading a one for Butler which can eventually bring Kyrie is so worth it. You win with veteran proven players in this league Dont be a dickhead with your trolling comments
Like I said, one should be embarrassed to suggest that the Knicks trade a 1st round pick much less an unprotected 1st round with KP possibly out for the year. Calling this trolling might be kinder than what it really is. You have to have been asleep for a few decades of Knicks basketball to talk about trading 1st round picks.

Im wide awake. The chance to dump Noahs contract and pick up one of the top 10 players in the league for a lottery pick that might not pan out
I think u r asleep. Not to mention if we got Butler only on the premise he would sign an extension and then the likelihood of getting Kyrie then not only u r asleep but blatantly stupid
How you can ignore history is beyond me but not surprised. This ranks as one of the dumbest proposals Ive seen on something like 15 years on BBI and 60 years as a Knicks fan. Also trying to ignore the stupidity of the assumption that Kyrie will definitely come and/or the odds that hell play a full season. Think back to when the Knicks threw in a #1 for Melo. Howd that work out ?

Did it ever cross your thick skull if the knocks got Butler then they arent a lottery team. They are more the middle of the pack and then the draft pick your crying about isnt as valuable
People are making bad assumptions based on a lack of knowledge about the reality of the situation.
The "max offer" the Wolves made was for 4 years $100M. There was no chance Butler was going to accept that for a simple reason- to do so would mean that he was leaving a minimum of $40M on the table.
Under the CBA, if Butler waits until the end of the season, the Wolves can offer a 5 year $190M deal, while other teams can offer 4 years, $140M.
There is no player in the league who would leave $40-90M on the table when all they have to do is play one season.
thus, when you realize the TRUE FACTS of the situation, you would realize that Butler turning down the max is really a non-story, because neither Butler not any other player in the league would ever have accepted it. It DOES NOT tell us that Butler is leaving- it only says that he will play out the season to make a LOT more money.
Stop with the silly trade proposals because the Wolves won't be feeling any pressure to trade Butler. Even if there is friction between Butler and their other stars, they would not take pennies on the dollar for any of them- they would want max value in a trade- Porzingas, the Knicks 1st and several young unpside players. Noah plus a 1st gets you laughed out of the room.
They will lose butler for nothing. Knicks unprotected pick will be top 7

If it is a top 7 pick that makes more sense for Minnesota but is still not great. If they trade Butler to the Knicks then it will be middle of the pack? Okay, lets assume that is true. Why would Minnesota trade him during the season then? If anything they'd wait until after the season. At that point the Knicks can just call their bluff and keep the pick. The only way this has any chance of working out is if it were a sign and trade and I don't understand the NBA's rules well enough to even know if that is possible while Porzingis is still hanging around unsigned.
I agree with the above poster who said there is like 40 million reasons why Butler will stay and Minnesota knows that. I also agree with Samian that we need to keep our picks. It is the best way out of this mess we are in. If Butler wants to come here then he can come as a FA. If not, we'll keep our pick and offer the max to someone else.
Getting Butler would be great but giving up assets to get assets just leaves us in neutral right now. We can keep our first and get a max player. Lets stay the course. The Knicks have been a lot of negative things but one positive that has been pretty consistent over the years is that we have drafted well when we have had picks. We have also screwed ourselves over with when we draft because we like to beat playoff caliber teams down the stretch and ruin our draft position. Our goal this year should be to develop the young kids. Winning should not be a priority. I'm not saying to tank but rather get the kids experience amd let them get their bumps and bruises while we get a better draft pick or at least better position in the lottery.

You are 100% right. Noah and first does getme laughed out of the room
That was just a starting proposal. Im sure they would need to sweeten the pot. But I absolutely feel he wants to leave Minnesota. And Thibs is going to want to get something before he leaves Just like the Kawhi situation

How could you guarantee that getting Butler would bring Kyrie. That's speculation at best.
"Here are the salary cap implications for the Bulls on the Jabari Parker contract: Chicago will need to renounce Noah Vonleh, David Nwaba and waive Paul Zipser and Julyan Stone to create the $20M in room to sign Parker."
Geez. Vonleh was a lottery pick in 2014 and he's already been on three teams. About to go on his fourth. Only 22.
Never a guarantee on anything TTH. But it sure will be a huge plus if you have Butler KP and Knox. The question is why wouldnt Kyrie want to come to NY
