gonna be real tough though as Bauer has bee superb.
On the injury front Sanchez playing a rehab game today hopefully comes back right after the break.
Torres is going to the allstar game and will do rehab activities there but will head to Tampa after that and probably meet the Yanks when they play in Tampa starting the Monday after the AS break, so he'll miss the Mets series.

Other than the Bauer part, that's all good news. I'm just glad neither is out longer or had any setbacks.
Yes, but I don't believe there's ever been three teams in the same league all win 100, and we could have four this year. ( Astros, Mariners,Sox and Yanks) Unlikely but at this pace certainly possible.
I really think they should have had Betances replace Chappy when he pulled out. You're hard pressed to find a relief pitcher in baseball who's pitched better than hom the past 6 or 7 weeks.
Or has Wade earned the playing time over Walker? I'd get it if they were facing a lefty but that's not the case today.
Anyone else thinking the same?
Better fielder, both meh at the plate.
Better fielder, much better on the base paths...the Walker fixation is agitating to say the least.
The fixation on walker stems from his career production. Yanks are expecting walker to hit to his career norm.
No doubt that's what it is but at what point do you just look at who's playing better now and play that guy? How long is the leash and waiting time for that play to career production become too long?
Usually in sports when there's depth that brings competition for playing time, it's put up or sit down. It just seems to me Wade has been putting up lately and I thought we'd be seeing him play more than Walker.
I think what you see is what you get. A line drive .270-.280 type hitter 20 hr/70-80 rbi guy with like a .300-.310 type OBP. Unless he gets more selective I don't see him advancing to another level.
Cleveland has an awful bullpen. First guy gets out on 2 pitches and he's up there swinging away at garbage on the first pitch.
If they keep him I pray I'm wrong but I have a feeling he'll be a guy that regresses as a player.
I don't know know man. I get the frustration with him but to me he's improved as the year has gone on so I don't see why he wouldn't improve next year also with a full season under his belt.
I'm not 100% sold on him or think he should be untouchable, but I'm nowhere near thinking we've seen the best of him. Considering he was expected to start the season in the minors, I think we're way ahead of the game as far as what he's given us and experience he's gained.

lots of our hitters look like shit today, certainly won’t be singling him out for it. He needs to learn discipline, just like most rookies. We can do a lot worse at 3B for the foreseeable future.

Dude....he's a rookie!
Exactly, and getting this year to play puts him basically a year ahead of schedule.
How long is the yes network going to plug that weird Indy movie “corozan?” ??? The movie and these commercials came out in April. It’s late July! Enough already.

Lately he's been giving up bombs in the 2nd. How many times is Boone going to be burned doing this???? Especially with 4 off days coming up. Use the godamn guys!!!!
Have you ever seen Francona not putting something in his mouth?
He was hooked on tobacco, so now he chews gum constantly. One of my coworkers used to chew tobacco and does the same thing - chomps away on gum all day.
And I'm fine with the job he's done most of the year, but no way you leave Green out there to pitch the 8th having no game the next 4 days. For all of the "manager doesn't matter" crowd Francona was a big difference today.

I was thinking the same thing. He had Betances warming up last inning and I thought for sure he was coming in to start this inning.
I like Boone but he does some things that have me wondering why. I'm sure he has his reasons but it's as if he was thinking this game was going deep into extras and wanted to steal another inning out of Green.
Yeah I hate that as a fan and can only imagine how a batter feels.
There's absolutely no way an ump can watch the pitch and the bat at the same time. Especially when the pitch isn't right down the middle. Balls in the dirt..forget about it. No F'ing way to see both.

is nothing to be ashamed of. Nor is a 62-33 record at the break, obviously. The losses in Baltimore are really annoying. But I think Boston literally never losing right now has everyone on edge feeling like this team is really in trouble, when any other season they’d be 5-10 games up at this point.
Playing without Sanchez and Torres on this road trip is a huge blow that can’t be overlooked. Get healthy and come out firing after the break. Schedule is pretty light before heading to Boston beginning of August. Shave a couple games off before then and we’ll be fine
The problem isn't the second inning he threw... the problem is his HR rate has doubled from 2017 to 2018.
You're forgetting the amount of pitches he threw in the pen to warm up and then sitting down between innings as well.
Some guys are just locked in during the one inning and empty the tank mentally. Then sitting between innings knocks them out of whack a bit. Sure they're pros but they're also human. Doing stuff out of the norm for them doesn't usually end well. We saw Betances struggle early this year with going more than one inning as well.
I always go back to the Parcells theory on coaching/managing. Find out what your guys do best and put them in those positions to give them their best chance to succeed.
I've been as critical of Boone as anyone, but Green giving up that HR Â
isn't really a situation for further criticism. Green just didn't get the job done.
If you want to blame anyone for this loss, blame the lineup. They only had 1 baserunner after Hicks was robbed of a RBI hit in the 5th inning. And how many times can guys strikeout looking on this team? Is anyone besides Gardner and Torres protecting the plate with 2 strikes? It's ridiculous.
As others have mentioned, they definitely need Gary back. Romine made such a shitty throw to second on a stolen base attempt yesterday that I thought he hurt his arm.
Stanton and Judge. Both love to wave at the slider off the plate. Such weak at bats.
You complain a lot about Judge. Sort of odd considering he’s our best hitter
Are you watching the games? He should be one of the best and he is, but his flails at sliders are embarrassing. It is like he does not recognize the pitches or what they are doing to him. He either needs to get more aggressive early in the count or make contact when he gets a pitch to hit. Think about it, I'll bet you can sit there and tell me how to pitch to him. You see it 4 times per game. It rarely changes. Think it through.
And his inside power recently has been non-existent. 1st inning hit was one of the few balls he has tattooed to left that I can remember.

Bullcrap. He just didn't get the job done... he's giving up more HRs this season than he did last year. The 900 foot GW HR he gave up to Juan Soto in Washington was in his first inning of work. Considering they did jackshit on offense, there's no way you can use the excuse of him being on the bench too long. Green was probably baseball's best multiple inning relief pitcher last season.

I agree with most of your thoughts here but have to disagree with the first one.
It's fair to question the manager's thinking on leaving guys in when it's bit them in the ass a couple of times before on this trip alone. Tanaka and CC in Baltimore, Geeen today.
It's one thing if he had no other options but in these three he had plenty of arms available, yet decided not to go to them and rode each guy too long. Fool me once, ok but three times in eight games? IMO, Green should not have been in there in the 8th.

He’s 6’7, he’s going to strike out a lot. It is literally inevitable at that size. Might as well accept it. You said it first, he’s one of the best. Stop there.

Yea? check out boston's schedule out of the break. Another 2 weeks battling the Lilliputians they play .900 ball against. we don't play really good ball out of the break and we may find ourselves 6 or 7 down heading into Boston.

I never said he sat too long only by sitting between innings he definitely lost something IMO.
It shouldn't really make a difference but has he ever been an 8th inning guy? Regardless of last year, today they had plenty of arms ready to go in the pen before the break and IMO he should've went to one. Why even have Betances warming in the 7th if he wasn't going to bring him in in the 8th?
It just seemed like a needless gamble to me to keep Green in another inning and it's fair for anyone to question the thinking behind that given all the circumstances today i.e. last game before the break.
Had it been a long inning for Green on the bench, he looked crappy, Â
or he threw too many pitches, I would say, "Sure, why is he pitching this second inning?"
- Green threw 8 pitches in his first inning.
- The only hit he gave up was because Didi went to cover the bag.
- He got Lindor to fly out.
- The Yankees made 3 outs against Carrasco with record speed (THE REAL PROBLEM)
He came back in and gave up the HR. Maybe he should've been yanked right after that, but there was nothing before that to indicate he shouldn't pitch to Brantley. He's been good in 2018, but not as good as he was last year. Oh well.

Great so then whats the excuse to keep him in there after the post HR total meltdown? 1 run vs a shaky Allen is eminently doable. 3 is a prayer.

I guess the season is over then.
It’s a crappy loss, the team looks tired, we split the series, life goes on.
Give up, Dave. Just don’t come posting in a few weeks telling us how much you love this team and you knew all along. Deal?
Wait, what? Where did I say that the season is over or anything of the like? Stating that Boston has alot of home games in the 2nd half? That doesn't mean it's impossible. Holy over-reaction.

All good points and I'm not disagreeing with any of them, except I think he did his job in the 7th and that was all we needed from him. Getting Lindor out to end the 7th was huge and I think he lost his edge after that. He didn't need to go out for the 8th with Betances ready and plenty of other arms as well.
Another game I probably wouldn't feel the same about it as I do today. With the break coming it was a questionable move to me.
Um, Boston does have the better team thus far. Are you disputing that? That doesn't mean I'm all of a sudden going to stop watching the games. Stating another team is better than your team means I'm no longer a fan and have given up?
in a normal year we'd be 5 up and of course we'd have been fine with this week. This isn't a normal year though. So I'd think we'd have a little more latitude to get a tad more intense about a horrific week in the standings in July than we would most years.
- Outside of the rookies, has anyone on this offense played as well as they possibly can or as consistently?
- We lost a grand total of TWO series to teams with winning records and Tampa didn't even have a winning record when we lost that series to them.
We had an excellent first half record wise. There's no reason to be morose about the team.

I agree and I said as much above. Normally a record like this at the break would be celebrated and they’d be running away with the division. It is what it is. The team looks tired and is missing key players. The losses to. Anti ore are inexcusable. In the end, I’m still confident we can win the division.

Exactly. Nothing is 'over.' Stating that the Red Sox are the better team (at least thus far) isn't giving up, either.
They’ve done a better job handling bad teams, that’s the difference. We are 5-4 against them. The margin is razor thin
Well said. We’re 5-5 against the godawful orioles. Red Sox have been sweeping away the lousy teams. Yanks have had the upper hand head to head against every AL contender in the 1st half, including the Sox.
Don’t see the need to panic now...at long last Bird’s gotten hot, Stanton’s set up for a monster 2nd half, Hicks and Gardy have been hitting well, Didi’s back, and Sanchez and Torres are back soon.
We need a SP, as discussed as nauseum. Otherwise, this team is set up to contend all season, and if we have to go the wild card route, so be it.
Really. How come Boston does not look tired? Also Boone has had one of the worst weeks I have ever seen. And is he for real with this rotation to start the second half???? How are you starting German and Gray back to back games I do not care if it’s the Mets. Gray pitchers better on the road let him start in Tampa Monday

More excuses. They could of easily won all 4 off these games

You are fucking abysmal. Wahhhh, Boston doesn’t look tired why can’t we be more like them. Such a snivelling baby.
The team looks gassed, shit happens. Sack the fuck up or go root for Boston.
They've been without their 2 best hitters and just got Tanaka back.
The schedule evens out in the long run.
Cashman will get some help at the TD.
Jesus.
Yankees are 12-8 without Sanchez and 6-4 without Torres they are not losing these games because they are out.the starting pitching and bullpen has not been good lately blame that. Guys like Stanton Gardner and bird had a great road trip. Yankee pitching was terrible

Gassed?.. Greg bird and Stanton looked gassed?// Gardner looks gassed??? Didi?? Give me a break..
don't concern me. Getting our SP's thru 5 innings concerns me. If they're going to make a trade, let it be for pitching. Hamels and Happ are not going to make a difference. Take the long view and try to get younger.
The team goes into the ASB playing .650 baseball and it’s a god damn bitch fest. It sucks that Boston is playing almost .700 baseball, but you can’t change that. This team has room for improvement, but I would be happy as a pig in shit to play .650 ball the rest of the way. Let’s try and enjoy the ride a little bit.

Exactly!!! Look what is going on in Queens. We as a fan base are very fortunate. I thank my dad all the time that he brought us up Yankee and Giant fans.
April we made up 5 games in the loss column in ONE week. Let's have some faith and enjoy the 2nd half.
I think the majority of us here do have faith in this team and expect them to challenge for the Division right to the end. No one is giving up on that or at least very few of here are.
It's just frustrating when they lose games a lot of us feel they shouldn't have. It's one thing to get beat, shut down by a great pitcher, lose because of a great play or whatever. It's another when it feels like we lost the game and didn't get "beat".
At least that's the way a few of these games lately have felt to me. More like the Yanks lost them than the O's or Indians won them. I've got no problem tipping my cap to another team when they outplay my team, I just didn't feel that way on this trip on at least three of the losses.

Come on. Not to sound like a homer, but everyone in this thread is thankful to be a Yankees fan, especially over a franchise like the Mets and how they are run (no offense to Mets fans, just making a point). You are allowed to be honest without going crazy, and I see very few here going crazy. Just annoyed with how often Boston wins and some of the losses to bad teams we've had. That is allowed. It's not going crazy and it certainly is not giving up. Why people go to such extremes here is something else..

By far the most insufferable asshole on BBI. He should have been a blow job.

All trolls who only show up to incite with their stupidity and negativity. It’s no coincidence nobody has ever seen any of them on Yankees threads until this season. Trolls.
to lose, but I think the negativity about the Yanks is a little bit overkill. The team isn’t built as a one grasp at a title type of team. We are in for long sustained success hopefully. I am not giving up on this year at all, just saying the future is very bright. If we get on a roll second half and Boston stumbles a bit it’s gonna be tight. So much to be optimistic about including guys that haven’t even made it to the show yet. Don’t let emotions over a couple of games ruin a really great time to be a Yankee fan.

Here is another clown on here calling formpeople to be banned and yet is always the one talking down to people you don’t agree with
It’s just obvious that you are a troll that only shows up to whine, bitch, moan and complain and it’s getting more and more difficult to navigate through your endless drivel every time this team loses a game. You’re fucking clueless on every level and you completely ruin game threads. I’m glad you’re ok with that but why should the rest of us have to suffer your ignorance?
You’re not a Yankees fan, I think we are in agreement there. See, we don’t ALWAYS disagree! I’m embarrassed for you, really. You miserable prick
I feel better tonight too. And really, the biggest thing I took away from the first half of the season is that I think we're the toughest team in a series in the whole league. I think the Sox and Stros should be shitting in their pants thinking about having to play us. We show up to those games and I expect that to continue.
Tanaka had some great breaking stuff today. He'll be interesting to watch down the stretch. If he pitches well it really can be a big boost.
This was the biggest news of the day. If this is the Tanaka we get we have 2 legit playoff pitcher + 4-5 innings of CC. Obviously health can effect that gameplan but assuming the health is there, I’m comfortable with it. I’d like another starter but I almost want another BP arm instead, take our chances with the 3 man playoff rotation and target a pitcher in FA.

Yes, I'm the loser, yet you're the one that's such a worthless sack of shit that he only shows up on Yankee threads when they lose.
The proof is in the pudding. I dont have to keep track of it. Everyone knows it and sees it.
You're a worthless poster. No one cares that you have a differing opinion. They care because the ONLY time you ever post on Yankee threads is when they lose. You lose all credibility when you do that. You have no interest in posting unless they lose so you can rip them. Get fucking lost

I'm in total agreement with you guys and Adams post above too. Good posts and I'm looking forward to some more fun threads after the break.
I like our chances and if the 2nd half is anything like the 1st, this team is going to give us lots of good things to watch.
names on the internet ever worked for anyone? Why not just ignore what you don’t like. I mean a troll just wants to get under someone’s skin so if that’s what you think the guy is, just ignore him. I mean no insult by this.
Do a little more navigating through the game threads I posed in plenty of games the Yankees have won. And why are you cursing??? You want to call me a crying bitch but yet you sound like you have your panties in a bunch. Calm down and if you or anyone else does not like what I have to say then ignore me simple. You can act like this team has no flaws all you want but you and every other homer on here who attacks posters you don’t agree with will be the ones on here bitching worse then me when this team Flops in October
wants to get rid of trolls on this site, he needs to get rid of 13ODB. Definition of a troll. Never posts when the Yankees win.
By far the most insufferable asshole on BBI. He should have been a blow job.
You call me a A-Hole for my opinions and want Eric to ban me. you have absolutely no life. You keep track of what everyone posts. Loser
You must be big blue shocks brother or the same person. You both write the same profanity and sound very similar
You are allowed to be honest without going crazy, and I see very few here going crazy.
But it isn't honest to act like this is a bad team or that the Red sox are a juggernaut that has left us without hope, and that's exactly what many of you are saying.
I go back to when the Yanks were 9-9 and the usual suspects were just being "honest" about Boone being in way over his head and that the season was a shitshow.
Fans rationalize that when they bitch it is OK because they are just being honest or rational, when in a lot of cases, most cases - they just sound like whiny asswipes, usually without any point to make at all except frustration.
I generally like Stu's take on baseball. He points out what improvements we can make and he recognizes that we are at a crucial part of the season in terms of contesting for the division. That's being honest.
The rest of the people complaining sound like reactionary dickheads.
funny how certain people are never giving us those honest, unvarnished Â
Posted 3 times after wins the last two weeks sorry I can’t be on the game thread monitoring every single post for 3 and a half hours like you can. I have a life
Anyone else thinking the same?

Better fielder, both meh at the plate.

Or has Wade earned the playing time over Walker? I'd get it if they were facing a lefty but that's not the case today.

Agreed but Wade's bat seems to be heating up, plus he brings a speed element to the game.
Just watching them both lately, Wade seems like he's playing better and earned more playing time to me.

Better fielder, much better on the base paths...the Walker fixation is agitating to say the least.

Sure will be good to see Sanchez and Torres penciled back into the lineup.

The fixation on walker stems from his career production. Yanks are expecting walker to hit to his career norm.
Yes, but I don't believe there's ever been three teams in the same league all win 100, and we could have four this year. ( Astros, Mariners,Sox and Yanks) Unlikely but at this pace certainly possible.

True and I hope you're right but Wade has hit as well. Including a three hit game and a HR in there.
Good news short of runs was all the pitches that Bauer threw.
Yeah, works all the way back from 0-2 and swings at ball 4 over his head...
Well surprise me. Hicks good hitting. Bauer throws too many change ups and Hicks was looking for it....
Yeah I was surprised by that at first too but once I saw he had to hold for a second and make sure it got through, not trying to score made sense.
Jays have tied the Sox at 2 going to the 4th.
2-0
Yep. Got himself a hanger and didn't miss it. Nice job.

Def curve. Loopy 12-6er. Was a little higher than the glove he had to throw to.

Yep, saw it on the replay. Def 12 to 6.
Bauer's thrown 3 to Bird alone.
Bauer's thrown 3 to Bird alone.
Agree. Tenaka's been all you could ask for today.

Can't dismiss the shitty pitches leading to the lead off walk before the HR. That'll come back to bite you in the ass too many times.
Not only walking the lead off guy but then he keeps throwing over leading to the shitty HR pitch.
::face palm::
Meh...he's throwing 125 today. He's done it all year and Francona knows he has no pen.
::face palm::
Yeah it does feel like that.
I'm more confident this year he'll make an adjustment sooner on that than he did last year though.

Exactly, and getting this year to play puts him basically a year ahead of schedule.
Good. The guys due up have had good AB's vs him today.
Got a loaded BP with the break coming up and the Sox cant lose. Really need this win.
But Green gets the pop up...to end it.
Living on the edge.
Super politically charged too as I understand it.
Absolutely. Both need to go to slider school (wherever that is).
You complain a lot about Judge. Sort of odd considering he’s our best hitter
You just know that they're getting bullpen help at the trade deadline. And there's a home run. Fuck.
He was hooked on tobacco, so now he chews gum constantly. One of my coworkers used to chew tobacco and does the same thing - chomps away on gum all day.
Quote:
about Sanchez’s defense when he comes back. Teams steal bases at will when he’s out. That was embarrassing

Yeah I hate that as a fan and can only imagine how a batter feels.
There's absolutely no way an ump can watch the pitch and the bat at the same time. Especially when the pitch isn't right down the middle. Balls in the dirt..forget about it. No F'ing way to see both.
Comment of the thread. True and too bad.
Playing without Sanchez and Torres on this road trip is a huge blow that can’t be overlooked. Get healthy and come out firing after the break. Schedule is pretty light before heading to Boston beginning of August. Shave a couple games off before then and we’ll be fine
Quote:
Stanton and Judge. Both love to wave at the slider off the plate. Such weak at bats.

Should he spank the team?
Holy shit.

What do you expect him to do? Green has pitched multiple innings all season. The game was tied. They are 29 games over 500 and Boone is an idiot. SMH.

Oh well.

is nothing to be ashamed of. Nor is a 62-33 record at the break, obviously. The losses in Baltimore are really annoying. But I think Boston literally never losing right now has everyone on edge feeling like this team is really in trouble, when any other season they’d be 5-10 games up at this point.

Great so then whats the excuse to keep him in there after the post HR total meltdown? 1 run vs a shaky Allen is eminently doable. 3 is a prayer.

I guess the season is over then.
It’s a crappy loss, the team looks tired, we split the series, life goes on.
Wait, what? Where did I say that the season is over or anything of the like? Stating that Boston has alot of home games in the 2nd half? That doesn't mean it's impossible. Holy over-reaction.
Seemed pretty defeated here, no?

All good points and I'm not disagreeing with any of them, except I think he did his job in the 7th and that was all we needed from him. Getting Lindor out to end the 7th was huge and I think he lost his edge after that. He didn't need to go out for the 8th with Betances ready and plenty of other arms as well.
Another game I probably wouldn't feel the same about it as I do today. With the break coming it was a questionable move to me.

but Boston it just the better team.

Um, Boston does have the better team thus far. Are you disputing that? That doesn't mean I'm all of a sudden going to stop watching the games. Stating another team is better than your team means I'm no longer a fan and have given up?
Great logic there.
They've been without their 2 best hitters and just got Tanaka back.
The schedule evens out in the long run.
Cashman will get some help at the TD.
Jesus.
Well, handling bad teams is part of being a better team.
Exactly. Nothing is 'over.' Stating that the Red Sox are the better team (at least thus far) isn't giving up, either.
Playing without Sanchez and Torres on this road trip is a huge blow that can’t be overlooked. Get healthy and come out firing after the break. Schedule is pretty light before heading to Boston beginning of August. Shave a couple games off before then and we’ll be fine
More excuses. They could of easily won all 4 off these games
You are fucking abysmal. Wahhhh, Boston doesn’t look tired why can’t we be more like them. Such a snivelling baby.
The team looks gassed, shit happens. Sack the fuck up or go root for Boston.

Jesus.
Yankees are 12-8 without Sanchez and 6-4 without Torres they are not losing these games because they are out.the starting pitching and bullpen has not been good lately blame that. Guys like Stanton Gardner and bird had a great road trip. Yankee pitching was terrible
Quote:
Really. How come Boston does not look tired? Also Boone has had one of the worst weeks I have ever seen. And is he for real with this rotation to start the second half???? How are you starting German and Gray back to back games I do not care if it’s the Mets. Gray pitchers better on the road let him start in Tampa Monday

Gassed?.. Greg bird and Stanton looked gassed?// Gardner looks gassed??? Didi?? Give me a break..
Exactly!!! Look what is going on in Queens. We as a fan base are very fortunate. I thank my dad all the time that he brought us up Yankee and Giant fans.

You call me a A-Hole for my opinions and want Eric to ban me. you have absolutely no life. You keep track of what everyone posts. Loser

I'm in total agreement with you guys and Adams post above too. Good posts and I'm looking forward to some more fun threads after the break.
I like our chances and if the 2nd half is anything like the 1st, this team is going to give us lots of good things to watch.
You’re not a Yankees fan, I think we are in agreement there. See, we don’t ALWAYS disagree! I’m embarrassed for you, really. You miserable prick
Do a little more navigating through the game threads I posed in plenty of games the Yankees have won. And why are you cursing??? You want to call me a crying bitch but yet you sound like you have your panties in a bunch. Calm down and if you or anyone else does not like what I have to say then ignore me simple. You can act like this team has no flaws all you want but you and every other homer on here who attacks posters you don’t agree with will be the ones on here bitching worse then me when this team Flops in October

names on the internet ever worked for anyone?
There is an obvious answer to this, but I don't want to get banned.
Hehe.
You guys are giving way to much attention to a very small number of posters who are begging for it. Better to ignore.
Why is it you think every player on the opposing team sucks?
Posted 3 times after wins the last two weeks sorry I can’t be on the game thread monitoring every single post for 3 and a half hours like you can. I have a life
