Anyone have experience with dental anti-snoring devices? I'm looking at Z-quiet but am having trouble pulling the trigger because I'm afraid it will mess my bite/jaw up and cause chronic jaw pain. Thoughts?
Uncomfortable as hell; leaky if I move onto my side.
Sleeping on my back with the mask on and getting a "solid" 5 hours of sleep is the lesser of the two evils when compared to not using it and dragging ass through life the next day as a result.
Sigh. Just a few short years ago I was a young man; completely free of all these old-man afflictions.

I’m on night 4 of the Philips Dream station, and I can tell the difference already when I wake up! Went for sleep study 5 years ago and wasn’t seen by a certified respiratory therapist, what a mistake!! I went 2 weeks ago to a sleep center that had a CRT and they set me up with my system that regulates the pressure instead of one constant pressure that is so annoying and difficult to get used to. Look into doing sleep study you may need it. Good luck!
A. First step would be to keep an accurate sleep diary of your habits at home. Sharing this with your sleep doctor will help them determine if there are entries that point to obstructive sleep breathing, hypersomnia, or nocturnal snoring. If these systems are discovered this will typically determine the need for a sleep study.
Q. What is the best sleep apnea treatment?
A. Depending on the diagnosis there are many different treatments that may be suggested such as; surgery, CPAP, or an oral appliance... our patients have found the oral appliance to be less bulky and invasive and have received excellent benefits from their oral appliance.
HOWEVER, in order to use it, I have to get Botox injections every 4 months or so--I have a very strong bite. It's very expensive, as a result, but for me way better than CPAP, which would interact with my awful sinuses/allergies. Surgery is very often a disaster. Link - ( New Window )
just go have a sleep study done. Yeah its inconvenient but its only one night and you really need to know if its serious sleep apnea or not. You can die from it.
The Zyppah types of products, I tried a variation but I would just spit it out in my sleep because its bulky in your mouth.
Another option is if your lower jaw is out of place or smaller than your upper jaw you might think about seeing an orthodontist to see if there is something they can do to restructure the shape of your jaw. If your lower jaw is out of place it may be obstructing your air flow when you sleep.
For example in my case my lower jaw is small and in more than it should be. I was a big thumb sucker as a kid and it messed up the growth of my mouth. So when I sleep it blocks my air flow and I snore like a mad man. So I had a sleep study down and the orthodontist is gonna have me go through invisalign and other stuff to straighten out my bite, then once thats done I'm gonna undergo surgery to pull out my jaw to its proper place.
So there are several ways you can go but go get it checked out. Don't mess around too much with the Zyppah products. They may work for some but if the snoring is bad you want to check it out and not try to put a bandaid over something that could be more serious.
with the OTC products is they will fall out of your mouth during the night. I went for the sleep study, was diagnosed with OSA, and got a custom dental appliance from my dentist. It wasn't cheap but it works well and is easier to use than a CPAP.
I'm not sure if weight is always the issue. I was a heavy snorer as a skinny kid and still am as a not-so-skinny adult. I have considered surgery but there is a long recovery time and it's not guaranteed to work.
Would not recommend.

Guy I played ball with had jaw surgery. They nicked his lower nerve and he has permanent loss off feeling in his bottom lip and jaw and drools a lot.

Doubt it. Clearly explained as a risk of the surgery.
