On a desktop you can listen to what you want with the occasional advertisement. But I even use it in my car. You can create a playlist that will also occasionally have advertisements but the catch is that it has to be on shuffle. That isn't a problem for me with my created playlists. Not perfect but better than paying for anything.
One has all white and the other has chrome or whatever metal. No reason to spend more money for the silver look. I went with the all white last year.
I will say this, you have to really practice. I like it but it depends on the meat and recipe. My wife has made chicken and it came out amazing but at times it feels a little rubbery. I made ribs or something a while ago. I remember having them in the cooker for like a day. When I took them out they didn't taste good at all. I was disappointed but then I broiled them very shortly after and it was perfect. Sometimes the meat needs that crispiness. I think the recipe called for a searing first and then cook it in the sous vide. I think it was much better the other way around. Cook them in the sous vide so they get very tender and then sear/broil to get that better texture. If you do the sear first then it just gets mushy after sitting in the bag while it cooks the rest.

Yeah I got the all white one since it was cheaper. I'm mostly gonna do my steaks in there. My one concern with this gadget is that it's app dependent? So if the app developers stop updating it, then what?
My Grandkids (10 and 7) have the Wii U and complain that they are losing cool points among their peers. They say they want an Xbox X. Unfortunately, I have zero knowledge of any of the current generation of consoles. Their biggest complaint is that they can't play a game called "Fortnight"...
Anyone got any thoughts and know if any of this crap is part of the Prime event?
I did see an Xbox S, on there yesterday. Just doing a price comparison, the savings wasn't anything to write home about.

The good news for you is Fortnite is a free game to download, they just need a console to play it.
By them asking for an Xbox X, I'm assuming that means all their friends have Xboxes. That's important, as Xbox people cannot play with Playstation people, and vice versa.
If you want to double check to make sure they want an Xbox instead of a Playstation, then yeah you can buy that Xbox S for them. It's not as powerful as the Xbox X, but it is $100 cheaper and can play Fortnite fine.
I'm not sure if this is a deal or not but I just got an email directly from the ChefSteps website saying their Joule is $50 off. It ends at 12:00 today.
Stainless Steel: $149 after $50 off
White: $129 after $50 off
Free shipping. I don't know if there is tax. Link - ( New Window )
The sous vide options on the market seem to have unnecessary features Â
to drive up the cost. By nature it's a very basic device - a PID controlled water circulator. These things should have reached the point where you can get one mass produced for under $50, but they keep adding features nobody needs (seriously, voice controlled SV? you're cooking at the same temp for hours on end, why do you need to chat with it?).

One of the highest rated ones on there is only $39 (Not a prime day deal but 30% off at checkout)
I've been eyeing up that Instant Pot, great deal. But now I'm thinking about the Joule lol.
They're not interchangeable. Get both. If only going with one, I'd get sous vide. Other pots and do what the Instant Pot does, nothing else can match the sous vide.

Yes I know very different cooking methods. Probably go with the Instant Pot now since it's a Prime Deal and then get the sous vide I mentioned above. Thanks
FYI Target is having their own one day web sale today Â
I'm the kind of person who'd be incredibly biased towards something like a sous vide. I've shoehorned its use into things that really don't need it, like corn or bacon. And you know what? It's not blowing me away.
I've made decent burgers with it, but nothing beats a burger that I grill instead. Same with steak. Same with salmon. Yeah, the bacon was tasty, but not tastier than doing it in the oven.
I did manage to do some short ribs some time ago that were awesome. But awesome enough to have the appliance and the pot occupying counter space for three days? Not so sure about that.

Do you sear the steak/burgers and even the salmon afterwards? I'm making bone-in pork chops Thursday. I've done them before. They'll be pink and juicy inside with a caramelized salt/pepper/sugar surface which would be pretty tough to match on a grill. And I don't have to tend to it at all until the sear.
couple years has increased the prime membership price 20%, and separated out prime pantry which used to come free with prime to $4.99 per month.
I used to be a big fan, now not as much if there was an alternative I'd use them.
but there's not. and every time I think I should cancel prime pantry my wife says "can you order paper towels, laundry detergent, dish soap, etc. from prime pantry" and I still prefer that as opposed to going to a store and it's worth $5 per month even if we don't use it for a month or two to not have my wife say "can you go to Target and get...."
All I know is I worked my butt off picking orders today! Â

Do you sear the steak/burgers and even the salmon afterwards?
Yep, I've seared them all, either on a hot skillet, on the grill, or even with a Searzall. It's great to ensure that they're perfectly cooked, but I don't find that the assurance of temperature perfection outweighs the better taste and/or texture I get on the grill.
Nothing against it per se. A tri tip does come out really well when sous vide cooked, but not as well as when I use my smoker.

I'm done with a steak in an hour and fifteen minutes, sous vide. How long do you take with the smoker?
Unless you're a pro on the grill, chicken breast and pork chops will almost always come out overcooked. Doesn't happen with sous vide.

That's not true, so long as you brine them both.
I use SV quite a bit, but I'm not a fan with chicken. Just don't like the texture. Surprisingly, one of my favorite uses is for shrimp. I can get a perfect, foolproof shrimp cocktail jumbo shrimp out of SV every time, whereas it's hit or miss boiling or steaming before an ice bath. Same for other shellfish.
I wasn't aware of that when I purchased it, and then had to "upgrade", because half of what I wanted to listen to, I could only listen to at home.
Sneaky.
Looking forward to seeing what the hype is all about.

LT - I picked up one yesterday as well. It said 129 but was 69 when I went to checkout - you should confirm what price you got.
I also picked up a 6 qt instant pot for like 60 bucks.
Dot and Plug - ( New Window )
Maybe I'm wrong. I'll look into it a bit further. I hope you guys are right, though. Here's the one I bought.

My bad
It is more of a hassle that you have to use the phone while you're cooking and not have the controls on the device itself.
That lack of on-device controls is what led a few cooking sites to give the Anova an edge

Where it has really shined for me is with fish.
I won't use it for things like cooking eggs where you can do it for much shorter time with just as good results.

If you’re not fond of them souls vide is unlikely to magically change that.
They’ve bred pork into “the other white meat”, which has rendered the leaner cuts pretty flavorless.
