This is good stuff..
Dirty POS Islander Billy Smith - ( New Window )
Could be fun to watch the development instead of pissing up a rope like the last two years.
This is good stuff..

A hell of a player and a great coach. He's really going to help the young Rangers develop

Yea I was thrown by that too. I had to do a quick search to confirm that I didnt miss Quinn getting canned and Ruff promoted to HC.
Also, like what I hear about the coaches. All good things. We are just going to have to sit through another bumpy season that hopefully churns out an exciting team that ends up with another Top 10 pick (preferably Top 5).
great bridge deal

You're out of your mind
I think AV's scheme was fine and actually a really good system. I think he covered up a lot of ills and made the Rangers appear better than they were. His shortcomings were he had no recourse to fix his defense when tthings went bad. His biggest failure was and is that he simply can't develop young talent. Vets had a long leash and rookies were quick to get the hook. We saw it in Vancouver and again in New York.
IMO, this year is going to be fun finally. gone are the expectations and we are going to lose and lose a lot. On the flip side, it will be to watch these kids develop. Also, and just my guess, Hank put up a good face last year saying he wants to be in New York for his career. At the deadline this year, if the Rangers struggle as mush as i think they will, i could see his frustration getting the best of him and ok a trade to a contender.
It is not something i want to see but it would be the best move for the rebuilding rangers. they can eat a ton of his salary in exchange for some prime prospects.
As for Vesey, he's a bottom 6 guy and unless he flips a switch, prob for the rest of his career.

...he's tougher than AV's approach let us see imo. Borderline misused in AV's 'scheme' to use a football analogy. Unfortunately who to use, and how to optimally allign them was Vigneault's biggest failure as a coach.

I agree with you that AV's system was a really great change of pace from Tort's turtle/block shots at any cost mentality, and in the early going, with the roster we had, it was great. My problem was, that he never adapted to what the players became. Yes, he couldn't do anything about the DG/Staal/Smith contracts, but they were different players in the later tenure. We kept the same philosophy of flying out of the zone, yet the pieces weren't capable of doing that effectively, and we didn't try anything different schematically. He had a great run, no doubt, some of the more fun hockey we've seen in a while, but I'm excited for a change and the youth movement.
As for Vesey, I love the deal. He's reached 16 and 17 goals in his first 2 years, with about 14 minutes of ice time, and no real PP time. He gets to the dirty areas, and can cause some havoc at the net. At this money, it's a no brainer to see how he fits in the new system.
