I can't remember if he played.
He 'retired'

five minutes after he signed his last contract with the Jets. just took a few years to make it official.
Best corner I ever saw in his prime.

If Deion is number 1 all-time as a cover corner, Revis has to be number 1A. The best WRs in the sport couldn't do anything against this guy.

Great player, but...

He was a lot more physical than most shut down CBs. Great player and a certain HOF player. he should go into the HOF as a Pat with Brady doing the intro. Man, one of the all time greatest Jets players and he won a ring with the fucking Pats. How much does it suck to be a Jets fan?
We almost got him in Blue!

I think the Jets traded up in front of us at the time.

Darrelle was kind enough to not even attempt a tackle. Great cover guy but a selfish player that was only interested in money. He retired because there was no team left to scam.

He played well in 2015 but ran out of steam quickly in 2016. And that was it. Some guys decline steadily, others lose it overnight

Surefire Hall of Famer
A shutdown corner

Like Sehorn at his prime and before his injury, but less athletic.

Still grinds my gear we got jumped by the Jets and settled for Ross, worse than Muscle Hamster/Wilson.

Can't think of a close 2nd ... In his prime he dominated the best Wr in the NFL.. T.O Randy Moss Reggie Wayne Andre Johnson nobody made plays on Revis island

no I'm 31 not old enough to have seen those guys in there primes
Does anybody think
chopperhatch : 7/19/2018 1:52 am : link
That the more emphasis put on the pass rush as far as schemes and players who specialize at rushing the QB and are only on the roster for that reason gave a boost to Revis' effectiveness as a corner? I am not saying I definitely feel that way, but all the talk about him being 2nd best all time kimda made me wince. Especialy when talking about guys like Aeneas Williams and Rod Woodsoon....hell even Shawn Springs. Those guys didnt have defenses geared with 3 or 4 pass rushers on the field at the same time. Maybe Woodson playing with that Pitt D. But it almost seemed to me that they had a tougher task and also played against tougher receivers lile Irvin, Rice, Tim Brown in his prime, Cris Carter, TO, and Sterling Sharpe.

For my money, Champ Bailey has got to be the 2nd best ever. That guy could do it all and actually did do it against those receivers....for a long time.
Great player, but man he also got away with more holding...

Champ Baily was a good player but not the lock down CB Revis was Imo.. When Baily was with Washington I remember Amani making catches against him regularly and when he played at Giants stadium as a member of the Broncos, Plaxico made his fair share of plays against Baily as well
Revis in his prime locked down everyone... The Jets didn't have a unbelievable pass rush there top defenses were basically Revis shutting down the opposition best
Also Revis prime came when everybody and they momma was throwing for 4 and 5000 yards a season and he faced guys like TO Randy Moss Reggie Wayne Ocho Cinco not easy comp in the least bit
Revis IMO was a true shut down CB the best I've ever seen
To me, he is borderline HOF...
EricJ : 7/19/2018 8:41 am : link
and leaning NO at this point. There is no doubt that he was the best cover corner in the league for a few years. However, IMO he did not sustain it long enough to be in the HOF.

I feel like the last few years in the league he was basically just stealing money.

Here is an interesting stat for you. He finishes his career with ONLY 29 INT's. There are 225 players who finished their careers with more than that. Now, before you tell me that nobody threw the ball in his direction and that limited his chances for an INT, nobody threw at Deion and he had 53 INTs.
Revis..
FatMan in Charlotte : 7/19/2018 8:58 am : link
is definitely a HoF player, if only for reputation alone.

Like it or not, DB is a position where reputation matters and Revis was looked at by peers and coaches as the best in the game for several years.

I'll go as far to say that he's not only HoF, but he's a likely 1st ballot guy.

Absolute 1st ballot HOF, no doubt. He and Deion were the only absolute shut down corners I know. Even other HOF CB had an occasional bad game or got burnt. Revis went a whole seasons without giving up 1 decent catch for yards.

Rex Ryan was right, and he can evaluate talent. Knew Cruz was something special unlike our dopey team XD
Huh??

Tremendous, shut down corner, who could go
TMS : 7/19/2018 4:24 pm : link
one on one and take away any receiver in the league. That was his reputation and he proved it game after game for a while. Very special at his position. Hall of famer he could be . Rex used him well and got him lots of positive publicity as well. We will see.

They were middle of the pack in sacks against the league, but nobody ran against them which meant it was easier to discern whether to drop or not and Ryan's defenses have always been blitz happy.

Gastineau, Curtis Martin, who else? Keyshawn Johnson? Revis would absolutely be on there.

Revis is a no doubt HOFer
arniefez : 7/20/2018 1:43 pm : link
He's a top 5 Jet of all time. I would put Namath & Klecko ahead of him. Klecko is criminally underrated. Revis was better than Deion because he played the run too.
Namath, Maynard, and Klecko for sure are higher IMO
steve in ky : 7/20/2018 1:47 pm : link
Beyond that I think the argument could be made for a few more that might be as well.
When comparing Deion to any other corner
bc4life : 7/21/2018 10:37 am : link
Have to keep in mind his freakish physical gifts. He had the ability to recover from mistakes that would burn many of the better corners.

This. If you can say Sanders is #1, that means you should have seen those guys play too.
You don't have to like Deion Sanders as a person
Ten Ton Hammer : 7/21/2018 2:01 pm : link
but he's every bit in the conversation as those guys mentioned. Whether or not he's the best ever is a pretty close debate.
