I would absolutely trade KP for him
Anakim : 7/18/2018 10:25 pm : link
But my guess is they get rid of Butler before KAT
Is Frank Isola
bceagle05 : 7/18/2018 10:27 pm : link
gonna blame it all on Thibs?

I'm disappointed in KAT - never knew he was such a diva. Doesn't even bother playing defense either. We may have gotten the best player in that draft........if healthy.

Why? Towns doesn’t play defense. He’s a tremendous talent but his lack of D concerns me. I know KP wants to play D.

Stick with KP. He’s got the fire and attitude we need.

Crucified? On here? If you were crucified by anyone for making an obvious statement then it was by a few Knicks homers.

I love KP, but I'd take KAT over him in a heartbeat.
I’ll stick with Kristaps over KAT thanks

Towns seems soft to me, I like what the Knicks are putting together and I don’t think any of the young guys (KP, Frank, Knox, now Mitchell) should be moved right now.

Towns all day every day.

How is KAT soft but not KP who’s always hurt? If health wasn’t a factor I can see why someone would covert KPs skill set but he’s likely going to have an injury plagued career. How can anyone take KP over KAT at this point?

You take KAT over KP in a nanosecond.
Also, in three seasons,

KAT has not missed a game. Not one. He's played in all 82 in each of his first three seasons.

You don't trade anything for Towns. He's expressed a desire to play for the Knicks several times publically
If I'm the Knicks I start clearing a boatload of cap space
dpinzow : 7/19/2018 8:41 am : link
Towns wants to come here
Irving might want a trade out of Boston

I think there's a nonzero chance the Knicks, if they play their cards right, could have Irving, Knox, Porzingis and Towns as four of a starting five in 2019-2020

When he was going into the draft, Towns expressed a desire to play in NY. He grew up in Jersey and was a big Knicks fan.

Towns has also said the Knicks are fortunate to have KP.

He gave Kevin Knox a shoutout on Twitter due to their Kentucky connection

I would take KP over Towns. I really didn’t like what I saw from KAT last year. He’s awful defensively.

I understand KPs injury concerns, but his overall ceiling considering his rim protection is so high. Combine that with his shooting, you have so many options to build lineups around him. Hopefully this coach/ GM can actually do that.
Are people forgetting
dep026 : 7/19/2018 9:22 am : link
That KAT shoots better than KP? KP shot 43 and 39 percent last year. KAT shot 54/42.

Plus KAT is a superior rebounder as well.

Good find, thanks. Regardless, he can't leave Minnesota for a while unless they trade him, which still seems unlikely.

Yea completely agree. Surprised it is even debated at this point with his injury concerns.

A few weeks prior to KP getting hurt, I was watching a Celtics game with my buddy. He asked who I would trade KP for. I said to him, guys that tall and lanky always scare me with injury risk (knees, ankles, back). I would trade Tatum straight up right now. That was before the injury. Both in that, I think Tatum is that good and KP's size scares me enough to make the trade.

KAT is a no brainer to me especially at this point.

No. No one is forgetting that. KP is good. KAT is better. There's nothing wrong with admitting that.
I also agree that KAT is a better player,
Keith : 7/19/2018 10:14 am : link
but I still don't make that trade. Not because I think KAT comes as a FA, but because I think KP's upside is higher. These aren't finished products. Both guys are still really, really young.

I think KP has the skillset at his size to have a Kevin Durant type of impact on the game. He's called the unicorn for a reason. Guys like him don't come around too often.
I like KP as much as the next
SFGFNCGiantsFan : 7/19/2018 10:18 am : link
guy, but he's been injured each of his three seasons here. You just can't dismiss that.

If given the choice, you have to take KAT over KP.

Agreed. KP has gotten significantly better each year he's been in the league while Towns is not improving at nearly the same rate. Shooting %'s are misleading because KP is asked to do more and takes more shots. Over 40% of Towns points are from the paint while KP's is under 20%. Part of that is point guard play and the way their offense was designed and another part is strength. KP is still filling out and adding muscle while Towns is far more developed.

I'm not saying I wouldn't trade KP for Towns but it's closer than most seem to think in my opinion.

Do you have any confidence of KP giving you 60+ games for multiple seasons? I don’t. I love his game but IMO he’s already damaged goods. If he was Durant’s size I’d be less concerned but players KPs size don’t fare well once they start having major injuries. Besides the torn knee he’s had feet issues and looked gassed after his hot start. He’s turning 23 and while young it’s looking like the mileage is already hitting hard.

Potential is great but the Knicks and every other team make a swap for KAT in a heartbeat.

he has had zero foot injuries
Of course there are concerns,
Keith : 7/19/2018 3:49 pm : link
but none of his injuries are something that will continue throughout his career. He should make a 100% recovery from everything. Obviously the concern is his frame, but he's working to improve that.

I do not make that trade for a few reasons with upside potential as the main reason. KP is the unicorn.

rolled ankle, shoulder his rookie year, elbow bursitis and then the knee...

all injuries that should not hinder his future and it has been said the acl injury is one of the cleanest acl injuries you could have, no other damage to his knee...

and his play fell off whixh falling off is going frkm 30 points per game to 24, when thjr got hurt, he lost his second scorer
and he was also creating everything for himself

Lot of injuries over a course of three seasons. I love KP & think he's going to be a star, but you're crazy if his injury history doesn't scare you. It should, especially guys of his size/frame.
Did anyone suggest

he played 72 games his rookie year, 66 his second year, and last year was on his way to playing over 70 games until the freak knee injury...

none of his injuries are career threatening
Also,
Keith : 7/19/2018 4:10 pm : link
who has been his PG's? He's never had a PG that can make things easy for him. Put KAT in KP's situation and it looks a lot worse than it is. KP has the skillset and upside to be a top 3 NBA player. We got lucky that he fell to us and I am not trading him for KAT, even with the injury history. Risk? Yes? High Reward? Damn right.

guys are great players & should have long & very productive careers. I'll just leave it at that. You really can't go wrong with either guy. But if you're putting a gun to my head right now, I'd take KAT. That could easily change in a year or two.

the fact that he’s had so many so young, even if they aren’t career threatening, is extremely worrisome IMO.

no one said he is healthier than towns, i dont get why that is even a discussion...

if playing 82 games is the barometer for health 90 percent of the league has injury problems...

uconn i think you are over thinking it, he really has not had a lot of injuries...

his rookie year he couldnof played 75 or 76 games but they held him out the last 10 games because they were out of it...

his 2nd year he probably would of played around 70 to 72 games but held him out at the end because they were out of it...
