Haha. More that they don't have anyone else in the system outside of Nido and if you are rebuilding I doubt you are going to find another C in the off-season. I still think Murphy has a shot to be pretty decent.
I only like Chavis if he can play legit 3B, I've heard he's a DH (if his bat stays) after the PED bust.

I'd do either but yeah Chavis has glove concerns.

... well at least relatively fast for 1B? Or was the inside the park HR just a really weird misplayed double kind of thing.
YouTube clip of his homer. More a show of his strength on how high ball was hit than anything. I think he missed 3B too lol Inside the park HR - ( New Window )
Good find. Thanks for posting!
Looks like he got under it a bit but has so much power that is just missed going out. Nice that he seemed to at least bust it out of the box. Timo Perez might've gotten thrown out at home on that one.
Always squint when they send an older guy to the DSL. Doesn't mean he can't be good, it's his first season but 19 next month, usually they send those types to the GCL.
Beracierta had a disappointing 2017 and kind of fell off the radar. Off to a hot start
Best trade team made all last year was getting the extra IFA money and using it well.

Martino adds that nothing is imminent but to bet on Familia moving well before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Is his original gripe with the MLB tied to the whole dirty world of sports memorabilia?
Another interesting note from the interview, he mentions Shervyen Newton as one of his favorite Mets prospects. He's another guy hitting well with Kingsport right now. Although, I think he strikes out a lot.
How about to Atlanta former 1st round picks 1B/OF Braxton Davidson and RP Jason Hursh(taken one selection BEFORE Aaron Judge)?

Newton is legit. A usually conservative scout told one of my guys "he's a 60" ie above average regular upside.

When the Mets inevitably dump Dom Smith, can we please swap him for someone else's "failed" top prospect? Thanks #Mets

Someone mentioned Hoffman (his velocity is down) so pass on him but generally speaking I hope it's the kind of move they make. Guys struggling somewhere else who might need
Familia to Colorado for Hampson and Almonte
What a disaster and that doesn't even consider the disasters of Harvey, Cespedes, Ramos, and others.
@JonHeyman reports Omar will have significant say in picking the next GM and that Indians GM Mike Chernoff could be a candidate. I don't understand why Omar should have this sway but you could do a LOT worse than Chernoff #Mets
2. His observations of the Mets org appeared to confirm everything else that's been reported over the last several years. Always trying to be the good guy for the league. Meddlesome owners. 'Woe is me' complex.
To me this exchange (particularly the bolded quote) summed up this organizations problems best.
Q - As an outsider, I sense a lot of breakdowns in communication between the team and the front office which was so apparent when Terry Collins was the manager. There was even a communication gap at the minor league levels. First of all, would you agree their was a counterproductive ack of communication, and secondly, what was the root of this issue?
A - I think it is certainly fair to say that there were communications issues. I am hesitant to pin those on any one person, because I dont think that is accurate of the root cause. I think it was more of an issue of organizational culture and setting expectations, and then holding people accountable for their actions. And that goes straight to the top.
You can drive back in time to the "meaningful games in September" era to see the clarity why this organization fails. They aren't trying to win the way other organizations are. They aren't trying to be champions. That would be nice, but the expectation they've set for decades is at best competitiveness, and even with that lowered expectation there's rarely any accountability. Just ask Jose Reyes. That's where it goes to the top because they've never held themselves accountable (ownership). How many empty ("when people show up, we'll spend more") promises have they delivered over the years?
It's not all about money, but they need to try harder to win and hire smart people to run the org. Period. This GM search will be pretty telling and as much as I'd love to hire a brilliant young mind, I think it's more important that they get an experienced leader who won't be overwhelmed trying to change this organization's entire culture.

Weve returned Yoenis Cspedes from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the DL. Weve also recalled Drew Smith from Las Vegas. In order to make room on the 25-man roster, weve optioned Dominic Smith and Corey Oswalt to Las Vegas. #Mets
If Pint goes to a team with a great minor league pitching coach and that organization is patient with him then he could be an ace.
This organization has been run by incompetents for 2 decades. Sandy was like a glade plug in that ran out and now the stench is in plain sight.
Which SP? deGrom?
Agree 100%. It's certainly time for a change and we didn't get the results we wanted from the Alderson tenure, but he was a class act and made a number of good moves too. He was a needed contrast to end of the Minaya/Bernazard era.
Wasnt a D replacement
He'll only turn 31 at the end of the year, and just really hasn't gotten enough ABs yet IMO for anyone to really know what his potential is. Give him another offseason, another training camp, and let's see how he looks around July next year after spending some time in Syracuse.
Quote:
claims the Mets avoided extension talks with the SP because they didn't want to create hard feelings with those they didn't wow lol
Which SP? deGrom?
He basically said they avoided any talks with the top SP as to not disrupt the apple cart.
Quote:
He looked relatively slow. And he was replaced late in a close game (with a lead) for a defensive substitution. If that's how things are going in AA does that mean his only path to the majors is as a DH?
Wasnt a D replacement
I guess I don't get it then. Did he tweak something?

A young prospect who does not have to go on the 40 man roster.
Adding a bunch of middlng prospects who go on the 40 is not necessarily positive because it forces you to take your own guys off and they might turn out to be better.

Andres Gimenez has come to impress. He's 2-2, and has shot two outside pitches into LF for a double and a single. Firecracker type of player. #Mets
