Tiberi 0-3, BB, K
Gimenez 1-4, SB
Vasquez 1-2, 2 BB

Villines 2 innings 1 hit 0 runs 1 walk 1 k (I'd like to see him pushed to AA if he's still pitching this well in a month)

Winaker 0-3, BB (Hitting .196 in July over 16 games)
Manea 2-3, HR
Dibrell 7 innings 7 hits 2 runs 1 walk 10 k's (Has pitched very well recently has allowed 2 or less runs 8 of his last 10 starts, walks still an issue but only 1 free pass over his last 2 starts and +2 only 1 of his last 6, likely finishes the season in A+, almost 23 years old already)

Kingsport
Kelenic 1-4, 2 k's

start for Vientos. He's still young for that level right?

Yeah his birthday is in December (he'll be 19), Kelenic is actually 5 months older. But yeah Vientos has been disappointing so far this season but K rate is fine, walk rate is fine. I'm not overly concerned. I still have him firmly tier 2 after Kelenic, Gimenez, Alonso and Mauricio.
I expect Vientos
Shecky : 7/20/2018 9:33 am : link
To finish the season very STRONG.
Is Alonso fast
Metnut : 7/20/2018 9:35 am : link
... well at least relatively fast for 1B? Or was the inside the park HR just a really weird misplayed double kind of thing.

I do as well. I really wanted him in the draft but fortunately it worked out as the Braves took Drew Waters instead. Vientos is going to be an outstanding 3B someday IMO.

Alonso isn't particularly fast, in fact if I'm being honest I think he's packed on a few since the season began.

YouTube clip of his homer. More a show of his strength on how high ball was hit than anything. I think he missed 3B too lol

Plenty of good seats still available. Come aboard...
Rodgers
DanMetroMan : 7/20/2018 9:52 am : link
Welker, Pint, Rolison (who the Mets liked round 1 this year), Tom Murphy and Hampson for DeGrom and Familia. I'd have to pull the trigger.
Pint has a huge arm
Jay on the Island : 7/20/2018 9:58 am : link
but his control is a mess right now.

Haha. More that they don't have anyone else in the system outside of Nido and if you are rebuilding I doubt you are going to find another C in the off-season. I still think Murphy has a shot to be pretty decent.

flip Familia to the Red Sox for Groome or Chavis. Both flawed prospects once highly regarded.

I only like Chavis if he can play legit 3B, I've heard he's a DH (if his bat stays) after the PED bust.

I'd do either but yeah Chavis has glove concerns.

DanMetroMan : 7/20/2018 10:13 am : link
Rolison is no worse of a prospect than Peterson or Kay so adding a 3rd "similar" lefty would be solid. Hampson fits their "close to the bigs" mantra as well .306/.376/.455 this season with 33 steals, he's a potential leadoff hitter for us next season and Welker would be the long term option at 3b career .330 hitter so far in his pro career. I think it's a move you'd have to make.

Good find. Thanks for posting!

Looks like he got under it a bit but has so much power that is just missed going out. Nice that he seemed to at least bust it out of the box. Timo Perez might've gotten thrown out at home on that one.

Always squint when they send an older guy to the DSL. Doesn't mean he can't be good, it's his first season but 19 next month, usually they send those types to the GCL.

Kingsport
Pete in MD : 7/20/2018 10:40 am : link
seems to have a bunch of decent hitters. There's an OFer named Raul Beracierta, IFA (I'm assuming) from Venezuela, turned 19 relatively recently, putting up some nice numbers so far. I don't think he's ranked as a prospect anywhere.
Not sure if mentioned but
ZGiants98 : 7/20/2018 10:45 am : link
Dunn made honorable mention on Law's midseason "top 50" meaning it's almost a guarantee he'll be on his top 100 heading into next season.

Beracierta had a disappointing 2017 and kind of fell off the radar. Off to a hot start
There is one guy Id target in a trade
Shecky : 7/20/2018 11:38 am : link
I dont know how you pull it off. How you match it up. But somehow some way I convince Cindy they dont need Senzel and pull off a trade. Find a way to make it work.
Someone
DanMetroMan : 7/20/2018 12:17 pm : link
I spoke to said Beracierta had a "bad body" and doesn't move well in the corners which means he has to keep mashing to get on the radar.

Junior Santos 5 no-hit innings striking out 4, JINX alert DSLMets1 3 outs away from a combined no-no. Santos is only 16 so I don't even know how that works but I would love to see him in the GCL #Mets

The Mets have gotten to the point of exchanging names with teams on potential Jeurys Familia trades, reports SNY's Andy Martino.

Martino adds that nothing is imminent but to bet on Familia moving well before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.

Is his original gripe with the MLB tied to the whole dirty world of sports memorabilia?

Another interesting note from the interview, he mentions Shervyen Newton as one of his favorite Mets prospects. He's another guy hitting well with Kingsport right now. Although, I think he strikes out a lot.

Newton is legit. A usually conservative scout told one of my guys "he's a 60" ie above average regular upside.

This was a great off-season
pjcas18 : 7/20/2018 1:56 pm : link
(according to some) - I really don't think in hind sight it could have been any worse. Is there a worse player signed this off-season at these positions than who the Mets signed?

What a disaster and that doesn't even consider the disasters of Harvey, Cespedes, Ramos, and others.

PJ
DanMetroMan : 7/20/2018 1:59 pm : link
I said it before he stepped down. The off-season alone should have put Sandy's head on the chopping block. 72 wins and then this off-season and season? You don't keep your job without previous sustained success or championships.

@JonHeyman reports Omar will have significant say in picking the next GM and that Indians GM Mike Chernoff could be a candidate. I don't understand why Omar should have this sway but you could do a LOT worse than Chernoff #Mets
That interview with Francona was interesting - few thoughts:
Eric on Li : 7/20/2018 2:06 pm : link
1. It's easy to see why he got fired from 2 organizations, hard to be that outspoken if you're not Joe Madden. Also wasn't entirely clear about what his main gripe was, so it seems like he's got a little looking in the mirror to do on the firings.

2. His observations of the Mets org appeared to confirm everything else that's been reported over the last several years. Always trying to be the good guy for the league. Meddlesome owners. 'Woe is me' complex.

To me this exchange (particularly the bolded quote) summed up this organizations problems best.

Quote:

Q - As an outsider, I sense a lot of breakdowns in communication between the team and the front office which was so apparent when Terry Collins was the manager. There was even a communication gap at the minor league levels. First of all, would you agree their was a counterproductive ack of communication, and secondly, what was the root of this issue?

A - I think it is certainly fair to say that there were communications issues. I am hesitant to pin those on any one person, because I dont think that is accurate of the root cause. I think it was more of an issue of organizational culture and setting expectations, and then holding people accountable for their actions. And that goes straight to the top.

You can drive back in time to the "meaningful games in September" era to see the clarity why this organization fails. They aren't trying to win the way other organizations are. They aren't trying to be champions. That would be nice, but the expectation they've set for decades is at best competitiveness, and even with that lowered expectation there's rarely any accountability. Just ask Jose Reyes. That's where it goes to the top because they've never held themselves accountable (ownership). How many empty ("when people show up, we'll spend more") promises have they delivered over the years?

It's not all about money, but they need to try harder to win and hire smart people to run the org. Period. This GM search will be pretty telling and as much as I'd love to hire a brilliant young mind, I think it's more important that they get an experienced leader who won't be overwhelmed trying to change this organization's entire culture.

This organization has been run by incompetents for 2 decades. Sandy was like a glade plug in that ran out and now the stench is in plain sight.
and don't misunderstand - i'm not saying Sandy deserved to stay

he didn't. But especially early on I think he did a lot more to try to fix the culture here than anyone else has. He got them to spend money bringing in people like Depo, he personally was always a complete professional, etc.
