Perfect Game

Where the guy was called safe at 1B on what would have been the last out of a perfect game for the Tigers. Even the runner's first reaction was to put his hands over his head.
I immediately thought

Welke calling this an out was one of the worst I've ever seen.

Literally 3 feet off the bag. Mind blowing.

It wasn't enough that the plate umpire didn't see the swing
Matt M. : 7/20/2018 4:18 pm : link
but the 1B umpire called no swing on appeal from the plate umpire.

The best part of this story, though, is that both the plate umpire and the 1B umpire were suspended for the rest of the season and the 2 remaining members of the crew were warned because neither overturned the call. That's the way a league should react to calls like this.

+1. That was clearly the worst call of all time in MLB. When I saw the thread title, that play immediately came to mind. The Ump even admitted he blew the call right after the game.
yeah .... pretty bad.

The plate umpire missed it and asks for an appeal to the 1st base ump? How did he miss it?

That play smacks of somebody getting paid ....

How about not

immediately ejecting a roided-up Roger Clemens when he tossed a splintered part of a bat at a guy he had previously had trouble getting out?
