Close to a full Mets team on the field for a couple of weeks. Hasn’t been the case since mid-May. Familia expected to get traded before the weekend is out however.

Until Cespedes pulls a hamstring in the 3rd inning.

Former Mets prospect > former Mets non prospect > Mets bench player > former Met > Met again!

Defense only glove that can’t hit. AAAA scrub.

We badly need a good second half to get some better vibes around the team.

Looking at the pitching matchups for this series and it's a big crazy that one of these teams is 21.5 game better than the other one.

As they sent down Red Thunder when we went into the All-Star break...so Brendan Drury called back up today. Would be nice to get him on track. Then we can ditch Walker at some point. I was in the keep Walker camp all year too, unlike most. I was patient with his terrible April, loved his May as he is a professional that works counts, and thought he had turned it around. But it is apparent he just doesn't have what it takes to be successful as utility bench player. And that is all he'll ever be for us this year.
Walker
Eman11 : 7/20/2018 4:44 pm : link
Over Wade again. They're giving this guy every opportunity and then some to show something. Anyone else wondering why so much Walker when he's really not produced much?

I thought for sure we'd be seeing more Wade especially after his three hit game last week and Boone saying he's earning more playing time. I think he's played once since then, if that. Why even say that if you're not going to follow through on it?

I'm hoping it's a final hurrah for Walker. As in, they're giving him every opportunity before they package him with whatever prospects are going out for a SP. Walker and a lotto ticket for JA Happ.

arcarsenal : 7/20/2018 5:01 pm : link
Boone must think Walker will perform better if he plays more often - but with Torres about ready to return, it's not going to happen. I'd rather just see Drury or Wade. Walker sucks. No reason for him to keep getting burn.

Im wondering if its Wade they are trying to package. Maybe if the last thing a team remembers is the consecutive games he hit in they will be more likely to accept a combo of him and lesser prospects in place of a bigger name.

Could be chopper but doesn't it make sense to ride the hot guy? If they were going to include him in a trade, getting more playing time and doing well would increase his value. If they were looking to trade him, selling high off a couple of good games isn't as good as off a couple of good weeks.

Plus, he can friggin help this team win now as he might very well have finally figured out his bat at the major league level. That's what bugs me in all of this. He's got a better glove than Walker too plus brings a speed element. I can honestly see him being a big plus come playoff time in addition to helping now.
Walker has hit the ball hard lately...sadly, often right at someone.
yatqb : 7/20/2018 5:40 pm : link
At least it lets us use Wade as a PR at some point. His speed is outstanding.
I am not a fan of Fulmer
robbieballs2003 : 7/20/2018 5:44 pm : link
but he is a potential SP that could get traded ... well, until now. The Tigers just put him on the 10 day DL with an oblique strain.
We all know am a Walker hater but ...
BCD : 7/20/2018 6:30 pm : link
sadly I still root for the poor guy...hopefully his hard hit balls will have better eyes because with him if it wasn't for bad luck he'd have no luck at all.
The one good thing was WAlker was hitting better lately
adamg : 7/20/2018 6:33 pm : link
So it's not like he's forcing a slumping mediocre guy on us.

No but Wade was hitting pretty well too.

My main thing is Boone said Wade has earned more playing time but as of yet failed to give it to him. I figured for sure tonight vs a righty he'd get the start and tomorrow vs the lefty it would be Walker in there.

I'm just trying to figure out the thought process of who plays and when/why.
I know the Mets haven’t been very good this season
BigBlueShock : 7/20/2018 7:03 pm : link
For a variety of reasons, but what a bitch for us to face them with almost a full team and lined up rotation of Noah, Matz and deGrom to open the second half. That’s gonna be a huge challenge.

Meanwhile, with horseshoe still planted firmly up their asses, Boston opens with dreadful Detroit, now minus their best pitcher due to Fulmer being placed on the DL.

Well at least they're on the road to start the second half even though it does look like they've got a couple of cupcakes in Detroit and Baltimore.

Before the break he was away from the Scranton team tending to a family matter. The Yanks haven't said anything about what that matter was but only his family is the priority right now.

Syndergaard (sp) get his pitch count up and out of the game. It helps he wants to strike everyone out and will throw a lot of pitches anyway but the sooner we get into the Mets pen, the better.
German seemed like an odd choice to start tonight -

Sheffield would be up if CAshman wasn't dangling him in the event he can get a really big fish. He calls him up and he stinks and that card is played.

Yeah but I heard Boone on with Francessa today and he said they wanted to basically give CC and Sevy what amounts to a skipped start as far as time off, and the other three will have an extra couple of days more than normal rest.

Plus he said looking at the next few weeks, this worked out the best for setting up the rotation. Didn't come right out and say it but it sets up to have Gray miss the Sox, which I think was a big factor.

Nah, I don't think he's dangling him. I think he wants to give him a little more time, and maybe plug him into the rotation in Sept, if not sooner. JMHO.
The Mets pen is actually kind of interesting right now
ZGiants98 : 7/20/2018 7:38 pm : link
Very raw and unproven for sure but Bashlor, Drew Smith, and Rhame can bring gas...and Tim Peterson excelled in the upper minors...to go along with Gsellman and Lugo before Familia.

Its at least worth watching...

is a tick slow this year. Lots of 97-98, very little 99-100.

Fangraphs says 97.9 average 4 seam velo v. 99.6 last year.

I know that's nitpicky, but velocity declines are concerning.
wow
