Players get pulled from games all the time when their teams are in final trade negotiations. Why does this surprise you? It's pretty common.

Weird logic. Teams hold out players on the verge of being traded all the time. What benefit is to the Mets to play him? We are about to go into a firesale. Do you think wins matter anymore?
