Yankees recalled Domingo Acevedo from Trenton AA team. Been clocked at 103mph, has a 2.84 ERA with 40 strikeouts, and 39 hits allowed over 50.2 innings in 11 appearances

Jonathan Loaisiga's shoulder injury? Last news was that the team was placing him on the 7-day DL with shoulder tightness and sending him for an MRI. That was about two weeks ago.
Fucking Clint Frazier has a concussion again
superspynyg : 7/21/2018 11:03 am : link
we need to trade him before he becomes untradeable due to medical.

As for our pitching if we want a chance this season we need to add a SP but there is not much out there. Happ and Hamels and such are both 35 year old rentals not worth top prospects. And they are not worth a long term deal for big money.

Is Fulmers stock falling? I doubt the Giants trade Bumgardner.
Too late on Frazier the damage is done
arniefez : 7/21/2018 11:07 am : link
Fulmar is on the DL with an oblique injury. I'm sure Cashman is trying to improve the team but it may not be possible this year. They can make a run with what they have now and depending on how this year ends we'll see what happens over the winter. The window for the next 5 years is wide open for this team.

How many times is this, 3? He may be untradeable at this point until he proves to last longer than a month without the symptoms.

Fulmer was placed on the 10 day DL with an oblique strain and it seems like it is going to be awhile until healthy. IMO, good. It sucks that another pitcher is probably off the market which may up the price for the limited SP already on the market but I wanted nothing to do with him.
Acevedo is probably up for a cup of coffee

Read another article that they sent German down yesterday, Acevedo is already on the 40 man roster and only three hours away in Trenton (the AAA team is currently in Columbus), so it made sense to call him up to provide an extra RP arm for today's game.

I wonder if the idea is to showcase him as part of a trade, maybe even to the Mets.

Correct, Cessa is really the one replacing German, but Cessa started yesterday...might as well use the 25-man spot for a usable arm the next 3-4 days.
No excuses today for the Yanks
bigbluehoya : 7/21/2018 11:19 am : link
(Not that there were any acceptable ones yesterday)

Cespedes out of the lineup, Familia will not be used again (but still of course remains on the 25-man roster). Weak lineup, short bullpen.

Be smart, and make Matz throw a ton of pitches.

As for Sonny — there’s nothing he can do in 1 start to flip the script on his season, but this one sets up pretty well for him. Go get it done.

Drury gets the start at 2B, Gardy sits, Stanton in LF, Gary DH.

I’m not an alarmist, but a loss would simply not be acceptable today.

Yes, but against two shitty offenses. We'd all have to see more but maybe it'd give him some confidence. His last outing was one of the best I've seen from him as a Yankee.

I think you include Frazier, German and some minor pieces for a SP. If it's a premium SP with control I'd be willing to put Andujar in that mix. Maybe Sonny Gray going the other way.

German has great stuff but his delivery is atrocious. Inconsistent and arm trouble waiting to happen. Hate to give Andujar away but you have to give something to get something. Cashman has played it pretty well so far. Let's hope he can work something out.

The Mets do have someone close to Yankee Stadium that they could conceivably activate, but they don't anticipate a Familia trade getting finalized before 1 p.m. Thus, they'll play short today.

Yup. I bet Acevedo is only here for today. Gallegos threw 40 pitches in 2.2 innings on TH night. And they are out in Columbus, Ohio. So Gallegos probably wasn't even available for today, let alone would have been real tight getting him here for a 1:00 game today.

But I would expect Gallegos to be swapped for Acevedo tomorrow. And then Gallegos will go back down, when they need Cessa to start in 4 days.

Thats a major stretch. It's 4.71 for the year and as Ive pointed out it was much better in June than earlier in the year. He's a fine 4th starter if he's healthy.

Its 4.71 including today's game. It's also important to make the designation of what type of pitcher he is currently. His ERA has been in the 3's all year. Matz has been pitching to contact almost all season which will always make his FIP higher. He isnt a huge K guy like Thor, deGrom, and Wheeler. I prefer FIP too but it's important to weigh it against ERA, especially with somebody like Matz. Matz has pitched pretty well today. He's one bad inning and 3 MDD near misses away from a pretty damn nice outing against a brutal lineup.
MDD needs to be released immediately.

It’s 4.71. Look at the top bar of his page for the most recent score and again his ERA has been in the 3s all year AND he had a pretty decent show of success in 2016 over a fairly large sample. My comment about what you said being a stretch was that we are “punting” if we have Matz as our 4 and Vargas/Oswalt as 5. That’s ridiculous if the rotation is still headed by Thor, DeGrom, and Wheeler but we can talk about this more off the game thread if you prefer.

With the exception of Holder and Betances, none of the relievers have looked particularly good after the layoff. Warren was awful. It took Green 700 pitches to get 3 outs. Robertson wasn't good today. Granted, Chappy was exceptionally bad today, but I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet.

that Cespedes couldnt hit for the "DH" in a huge leverage 9th inning spot. Another 2 years of this fucking guy too.

How do we know that? Maybe Mickey Mouse wanted Meso to hit there.
Umm because he started Cabrera at DH

And then when he was tossed prematurely for no reason on a very close call.... he put in our 4th string catcher scrub instead of a guy that apparently can't even DH for a few days in a row. I understand being careful but when it's 7-6 in the 9th inning with two on and no out... and a guy making almost $30 mil can't even DH the rest of the way ...

Give me a fucking break. This organization is the worst.

Solid starts in a row next two starts against Royals and orioles let’s hope their are no rain outs because he could pitch in Boston if that happens
Red Sox actually lost a game.

I get your frustration and agree with your post except the first part.

He wasn't tossed prematurely,he was tossed immediately for his action of throwing his bat to the ground in frustration after being called out on the swing. The correct call btw on the swing and it wasn't really all that close.

Guys get tossed every single time for what he did, whether it be a bat being slammed,a helmet, glove whatever. Those actions get you tossed every single time.
Gleyber Torres...

...anyone have a rough timeline as to when he's expected back with the Yanks?

Thanks in advance!

Sometime this week during the series with the Rays in Tampa. Doesn't sound like it'll be the first game though. More like Tues or Wednesday from what I've heard as long as he doesn't have a setback.

It was absolutely borderline. I don't know what game you were watching though I'm guessing you were pulling for the Yankees hence that opinion. Anyway, my frustration is with Cespedes not with Cabrera or the one ump call

Just because I'm a Yankee fan doesn't mean I can't form an objective opinion based on what I see. Funny, I never accused you of seeing it the way you did because of the team you're rooting for.

Anyway my main point wasn't that. It was I disagree with you stating he was tossed prematurely for no reason. He was tossed as soon as he slammed his bat down, not before so the timing was when it should have been. There's no coming back from that reaction, and the ump didn't act prematurely or even overreact. Players get tossed every time for that.

It's also the reason he was tossed, so saying he was tossed for no reason is not true.
