I just go by the results
Metnut : 7/21/2018 3:05 pm : link
After today, his FIP will be close to 5. It was over 5 last year. He doesn’t miss enough bats.

I hope we can improve on his spot.
2 outs and you’re facing
bigbluehoya : 7/21/2018 3:05 pm : link
a fucking quad-A player and you’re dicking around with pickoff throws to first. Smh.

Seriously, that's the most infuriating moment of the season. Matt fucking Den Dekker is not getting a hit there - who gives a shit if the runner has a big lead???

Its 4.71 including today's game. It's also important to make the designation of what type of pitcher he is currently. His ERA has been in the 3's all year. Matz has been pitching to contact almost all season which will always make his FIP higher. He isnt a huge K guy like Thor, deGrom, and Wheeler. I prefer FIP too but it's important to weigh it against ERA, especially with somebody like Matz. Matz has pitched pretty well today. He's one bad inning and 3 MDD near misses away from a pretty damn nice outing against a brutal lineup.
MDD needs to be released immediately.
ZGiants98 : 7/21/2018 3:10 pm : link
God his bat is bat is brutal. Ill take my chances with Nimmo in CF.
Andujar's 29th double
adamg : 7/21/2018 3:10 pm : link
And Bird drives him in.

It's much better with Bird hitting like he has lately.
Bird is starting to get into a groove
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 3:11 pm : link
Which is a big boost for the lineup
At least

Where are you getting fip
Metnut : 7/21/2018 3:18 pm : link
from Z? It looks like his is 4.82 to me on fangraphs. How is it a “major stretch” to say that’s near 5? I don’t understand why you say stuff like they sometimes...

Guys who pitch to contact and walk 3.5 per 9 = #5 starter to me. I hope we can upgrade his spot.
Reyes hits like a little leaguer

How is he still on a roster? Great career but he is beyond cooked

Mr. Bungle : 7/21/2018 3:33 pm : link
for Sanchez.
Is this the hot streak
Kyle in NY : 7/21/2018 3:34 pm : link
we’ve been waiting for from Judge? He’s been steady and consistent all season but we haven’t seen that unreal stretch from him yet. This could be it.

Nothing is carrying to LF all day and he just cuts right through the wind. Awesome hitter.

Enough already, you literally only post ripping Sanchez.
Almost feels
dune69 : 7/21/2018 3:36 pm : link
like Sanchez doesn't see the ball and just tries to time the pitcher's arm. I've seen him locked in and hitting everything. Never understood how a hitter gets this far away from his ability.

What is the timetable for Jordan Montgomery's return?
Milton : 7/21/2018 3:39 pm : link
Start of next season? All Star break? 2020?
Gawd, I so love seeing Bautista as a scrub
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 3:45 pm : link
Montgomery won't be back until at least next year's ASH. Teams are more cautious with TJ recovery now than they used to be
I would imagine
Kyle in NY : 7/21/2018 3:45 pm : link
it’s all star break at the absolute earliest. It’d be a bonus if we saw him at all next season, unfortunately. We really miss him

Let’s get a few runs here so Acevedo can pitch
Admit the truth Yankee fans!!
Vanzetti : 7/21/2018 3:47 pm : link
You know you wish you had Anthony Swarzak. Especially at only 7 million per year.
Hah...we DID have Anthony Swarzak
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 3:48 pm : link
And dumped him in short order

It’s 4.71. Look at the top bar of his page for the most recent score and again his ERA has been in the 3s all year AND he had a pretty decent show of success in 2016 over a fairly large sample. My comment about what you said being a stretch was that we are “punting” if we have Matz as our 4 and Vargas/Oswalt as 5. That’s ridiculous if the rotation is still headed by Thor, DeGrom, and Wheeler but we can talk about this more off the game thread if you prefer.
Good day for

When Lagares and MDD were at Binghamton together, Mets had MDD playing CF and Lagares playing LF.That was an early sign of what type of GM Sandy was going to be

Shreve is ready.
Not for nothing
Kyle in NY : 7/21/2018 4:07 pm : link
But animal is an absolute clown leaning in for these HBPs. Embarrassing
Oh thank god! Shreve is in!
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 4:07 pm : link
Wait a minute....
Animal=Nimmo
Kyle in NY : 7/21/2018 4:08 pm : link
That’s an interesting auto correct
Welp that didn't go too well
Stu11 : 7/21/2018 4:08 pm : link
We're struggling at this point.
Getting hit is one thing
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 4:10 pm : link
But two runs in and bases still loaded with one ball in play that didn't even leave the infield is as bad as it gets
Not.only was he wild
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 4:12 pm : link
But he was only throwing 96-97, too. I'm guessing his knee is still a problem.
Hard to believe the Mets layed off those pitches...
Stu11 : 7/21/2018 4:12 pm : link
Some of the came within at least a foot or two of the plate...
Yanks shouldve traded for familia
spike : 7/21/2018 4:12 pm : link

SHREVE!
adamg : 7/21/2018 4:13 pm : link
My hero! HAHA
Tip my hat
dune69 : 7/21/2018 4:14 pm : link
to Shreve.

Team is hard on the nerves.
For the first and probably last time
Greg from LI : 7/21/2018 4:14 pm : link
I'll say thank God for Chasen Shreve
Chasen Shreve for closer!
Kyle in NY : 7/21/2018 4:14 pm : link
Kidding obviously, but that was one of the strangest 9th innings I’ve ever seen. Chapman had been phenomenal, figure that’s just shaking off the rust.

Phew
Glad we held on.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/21/2018 4:15 pm : link
But the confidence in this team to starting to get lower and lower, especially if Chapman is an issue.
