Again?
My gawd, to think everyone was talking a decent prospect in return. And to see what other relievers are getting in return compared to this was a joke.
This is why it’s pointless to trade the Mets best players bc obviously the Coupons are never going to maximize the power of a large market team but at the same time keep sacrificing the potential for small market success.
If any team is run similar to the 80’s movie major league it’s this one,
As good of a Mets career Familia had he single handedly cost this team the 2015 world series as the Mets had leads in all five games, including game one in KC that Familia blew. He also blew the one game playoff against the Giants in 2016. I had ZERO and even SUB-ZERO confidence in Familia if the Mets were ever to be lucky enough to be in that position again so as far as I'm concerned; GOOD RIDDENCE .......

Yes and no. Crappy defense did the Mets in during the end of the WS games. Since the organization gives no crap about defense...
Reportedly $1 mil
The laughable part is they keep throwing Swarzak out there, hoping he will justify their signing. But the guy is so awful, it does exactly the opposite
Swarzak, Vargas and Bruce--what a trifecta

Wahl doesn't throw that hard anymore. He had Thoracic Outlet surgery last year and lost velocity which pretty much happens with that surgery. Even before he got hurt he wasn't really considered The Mets traded for him based on his AAA numbers this year but he isn't the same pitcher and Keith Law doesn't think he can get major league hitters. He is 26 and the As took him off their 40 man so he was gone after this season anyway.
Toffey is not much of a prospect. He doesn't have power or the ability to hit for any contact.
Even though no one trusts Familia in any high leverage spot he was expected to still have decent trade value since his numbers match up pretty well to any reliever that was in the mix to be traded. And the consensus right now around baseball is the Mets got NOTHING for Familia which is pretty depressing.
Shame on the Coupons and shame on MLB for allowing them to retain their ownership.
As much as I would get on Familia, he did NOT “single-handedly cost the Mets the WS.” The defense was horrible, the offense was a ZERO, Cespedes was a dog, relief pitching was spotty. That’s why we lost the WS.
What’s funny (or more sad)...is that we still have the exact same issues theee seasons later. Sandy either ignored the issues or was god awful at filling those holes. I’m not going to get into the draft picks issue - which I think were equally awful decisions.
Yesterday the talk was all about the Mets paying Jerry Familia's salary for better prospects. They were scouting the Astros deep farm system, and the SF Giants were interested and that there would be a bidding war. The A's were offering one of their top position players and were going to throw-in Krapelian.....well, they got the Krap part right.
This is so similar to last year's thrift store binge that it should be called Salary Dump 2. It's not like you have to explain to Moe, Larry & Shemp what the Thoracic Outlet is and why Surgery there is a major red flag -- they just wathed it ruin their own prized young pitcher.
Gotta love this Mets organization. The commissioner should install another GM to make sure we don’t have another owner like Charlie Finley selling assets.
