It doesn't make sense trading Gray for a pitcher, but maybe Cashman can shore up our suddenly weak bench. Frazier may be Ellsbury II, always hurt. We don't know what Torreyes' status is. Walker's been is disappointment and Drury is a sack of shit. We need a credible bench player. He doesn't need to be all world, but he needs to be able to play multiple positions and not be an automatic out.
Sonny is a lot better than his YS performance... Â
Yesterday's outing against a little league lineup notwithstanding. But he's unlikely to pitch well in front of a Yankee Stadium crowd. He's a cerebral guy, he doesn't tune it out the way someone else might
Could take him in a package, let him pitch in a bigger park in the NL and then maybe flip him at next years deadline for 3 prospects. He is not toast, he may be able to be rehabed. Take him and some real prospects
Did anybody see the stats they showed on the YES Network yeaterday? Basically, Gray against teams below .500 he had an ERA in the 3s. Against teams above .500 he has an ERA over 8. This is not a guy you want to count on in the post season.
not only is he worthless come playoff time he’s basically only able to pitch on the road and against bad teams. We are likely losing any game he takes he mound for.
d-backs get an extra year rather than losing Corbin for nothing, without completely punting the remainder of this season. They need some things tl break right for them anyhow, just throw “Sonny Gray turns it around” into that mix.
Maybe the yanks need to kick in one or two prospects from the lower end of their top 30. (If the Yanks have eyes for Corbin anyway, this eliminates the possibility that he gets QO’d and they need to give up picks).
The whole story is built around a Boston reporter making a supposition based on there being opposing team scouts at Grays recent starts:
“According to a report from Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, teams around the league are getting the impression that the Yankees are considering shipping Gray back to a small-market team, where he'll have a better chance to succeed following his bumpy start to 2018.
"There are a couple of teams sending scouts to watch Gray pitch as the second half opens," Cafardo writes. "Are the Yankees trying to move Gray? That's the impression some teams are getting."
mentioned a couple weeks ago that the Yanks MIGHT be interested in trading Gray- and noted in the same comment that the Brewers were apparently runners in the the race to get Gray last year and might still be interested.
is that the Cashman gave up three highly regarded prospects for him. Then, add that to the prospects he gave up to get Fraizer/Robertson/Kahnle, and we are sitting here a year later without a lot to show for either deal. What good is it to build up the talent in the minors if you are going to turn around and piss it away.

First, we can’t keep all of our prospects. Second, we can’t win them all and Gray simply isn’t working out, it happens. Lastly, however, Frazier is going to be either a future starting LF/RF or a key piece to acquiring an upgrade at SP. Robertson has been rock solid and Kanhle was awesome last year and then got hurt.

At least 2 of those 3 prospects are less highly regarded today than they were at this time last year. Gray hasn’t acquitted himself well, but it would appear that Cashman had his “willing to trade” lines drawn pretty well at the time. Even without discussing 40-man roster restraints, he didn’t make out badly at all.
they control Kahnle for two years after this one Â
so there's plenty of time for him to redeem himself. It's not like they unloaded Torres, Andujar or even Florial or Sheffield in any of these deals either. Without Robertson, Kahnle and Frazier they don't make it as far as they did last year. Still were a game away from a WS appearance so it was a gamble worth taking on Cashman's part.
he was actually kind of bad toward the end of the year and this year he's really bad. Robertson has been very good. Frazier thankfully is with the Mets now.
Blake Rutherford was the key trade piece for the White Sox. He's 21 years old repeating low A with an .807 OPS. Not horrible but nowhere near MLB.
As far as the prospects go that were traded for Gray last year. They have all been horrible so far.
Kaprielian -still hasn't thrown a pitch for the A's. He's pitched a grand total of 29 MiLB innings total. All for the Yankees. The last one in 2016. Maybe he'll turn out to be Catfish Hunter down the road but so far? Total bust.
Mateo - is at AAA in the PCL. The PCL where everyone inflates their hitting numbers and he has a .615 OPS
Fowler - is on the A's MLB roster as a backup. He has a .266 OBP and a .634 OPS.
As bad a Gray has been he's better than all of them.
Guys that need reliable change ups & do not have them . He can’t get swings and misses on his curves. Nor can he lock batters up and get called strikes . His career trajectory is a nose dive. He takes the ball every fifth game . That’s about it for Sonny.

Your Khanle comments make no sense. He had a 0.90 ERA in September last year. He had one tiny rough patch in August where he had 3 shaky outings... he closed the regular season by allowing just 1 run in his final 15 appearances (13.1 IP)
Not only that, but Khanle hasn't been bad this year, either. He got hurt He's pitching well in SWB. He's given up 2 runs in his last 13 appearances. He has a 2.50 ERA there.
He did pitch poorly earlier this year - obviously he wound up on the DL and was hurt, though, he had shoulder tendonitis.
But he was pretty damn solid last year and should be another BP option for this year when the rosters expand.
Could make perfect sense in the offseason.
The Mets would never do it but that would be nice!!
vs teams with .500+ record
1-6 , 8.27 ERA
vs teams with sub .500 record
6-1 , 3.84 ERA
Ugly!
