Over the past several days, Odell Beckham Jrs agent Zeke Sandhu & the #Giants engaged in good-faith negotiations on a deal that would make him the highest paid WR in the NFL, sources say. They arent there yet, but the sides are encouraged a deal could be done before the season.

The Giants are known as a team that usually doesnt waste too much time with lowball offers so this isnt surprising. This indicates theyre already above Antonio Browns $17m per year.

The tradeoff with a strong start from the team is they often dont stray far from where they began. So if the current numbers for Beckham and Sandhu arent close enough to their liking, this might take time. In the end, something $18m per year-ish seems reasonable.
she is already back tracking...

I don't understand why any team low balls. Maybe it's a different type of negotiation but one of the first things you learn in negotiation classes is to not low ball the other side.
maybe also talk of ripping up this years deal
Some of you may recall when Plaxico sued the Giants for deferred payments they failed to make after he shot himself in the leg. He won the case, which surprised me, but the point is the more money, whether guaranteed or not, that he receives later in the contract than at the contract's signing, the more leverage the Giants have if there is a difference of opinion on what voids guarantees and what doesn't.
She's credible. The issue is that by namedropping sammy watkins, it invites the uninformed listener to assume that it's a comparison of players. It probably was an attention-seeking move.

"we know what it will take to sign OBJ". I believe they are closer than we are led to believe. 5 years, $90 Million seems to be the neighborhood. Sticking point I would assume is how much is guaranteed and how is it paid out.

It would be a huge surprise if they don't rip up this year's contract in the process, since the new deal will likely come with a lower cap number in year one. The team needs some wiggle room for in-season personnel moves.
In fact given that they're right on the salary cap limit as it stands, it seems like that's what they're intending to do.
The maximum is 7 years, but you really don't see that often. I think Andrew Luck signed a six year extension when he got his big money.

there is a cap on how many years you can extend a player. 5 years? 7?
