with their first depth chart of camp. On the other hand, Lewis was an undrafted free agent who's been here two years so perhaps his playing lifespan is up.
how little Eli had to work with, especially given that RL was the “best” of the lot
+1, but remember, according to ESPN Philip Rivers is more deserving of a gold jacket than Eli. It must be because of all of those playoff games and Super Bowls he hasn’t won.

I agree with this.
Look, I happen to like RL more than most, but the facts are he was an undrafted guy who had a huge opportunity last year and failed to distinguish himself on a 3-13 team.
Outside of Odell and Shepard, this unit looks like a bunch of journeymen types (which is okay considering the weapons at RB and TE). When you don't have legitimate talent, coaches are going to go with the guys they trust. And most of the guys ahead of RL on the depth chart were hand picked by someone (a coach or GM) --meaning they trust them. RL may be more physically talented than some of those guys, but his issues are exactly the things which do NOT endear him to the trust of the coaches (not clean hands, mental mistakes, etc).
RL is going to have to stand out over others physically, or earn the trust of the coaches if he's going to stick. Given his history, I'm not betting on him. His best shot is earning a spot through specials.
last season played out, I think the Giants missed a chance to see what a couple of raw WR's who had potential could do instead of sticking with Lewis. He just seems like a guy whose upside is 4th WR.
at WR. Eli had no running game and the OL was not too good and Eli threw for almost 5000 yards. The 4th and 5th guys were Barden and Devin Thomas. How is that for depth. It is all about health.
the Giants' WR corps sucks a$$. Get real folks. This team also sucks until they prove otherwise.
That's one of the things that's so funny about all the offseason happy talk about how improved the team is going to be - WR is absurdly thin. After OBJ, you have one decent slot receiver in Shepherd, and then a whole bunch of nothing.
RE: The 2011 team Nicks, Cruz and Manningham and nothing else Â

2011 Cruz was much, much better than Shepherd, and Manningham was much, much better than whoever the hell this team is going to run out as the third WR.

I would take Odell, Shepard, Engram and Barkly over Nicks, Cruz and Manningham and no running game. Thats if Odell has the same explosiveness he had before the injury. I think you underrated Shepard .

Kind of like the girl who isn't really that pretty...she's just the prettiest one there.

Depth at WR? Until someone besides OBJ and SS shows up, there is none...
The thing with Lewis is, I think he could be pretty good and benefit from an improved run game, and OL.
I think we'll be surprised to find out how guys can get open when you have the threat of a run game and can pass pro. Hopefully both happen this year.
Murderer! Otoh, the “receiving” corps of Barkley, OBJ, Engram, Shepard looks quite unstoppable on paper.

Just claiming that he stinks is a typical knee jerk reaction, which may turn out to be correct, but not because of effective analysis.
It is unlikely that he is the 2nd coming, but he could be Amani Toomer which we should gladly settle for.
