Torres and Stanton. Don't like Stanton in the 2 hole. I don't like Judge there either. I would prefer Hicks, Torres, Judge, Stanton, Bird, etc... Torres is the guy that will be the .300 hitter. Very good bat control, good eye, power when he wants it, compacts his swing at 2 strikes...

I think Torres should be in the 2 hole. Something like...

Hicks (CF)
Torres (2B)
Judge (RF)
Stanton (DH)
Miggy (3B)
Bird (1B)
Didi (SS)
Sanchez (C)
Gardner (LF)

Obviously a few things you can do there - but I'd love to see Hicks/Gleyber as the 1-2 before Judge and Stanton when we're healthy.

It's about maximizing most ABs and most ABs with runners on for the best hitter--that's why a lot of teams now hit their best hitters second. (At least that's my understanding.)

Yeah I understand that, but I'd rather Stanton to protect Judge and get both more runners on base ahead of them.
Yanks should hit Lopez well
Dave in PA : 8/7/2018 6:07 pm : link
If they can keep plate discipline, Lopez is going to get hurt badly when he leaves one in the zone. He should anyway.
Torres is their best hitter with RISP by a significant margin
shockeyisthebest8056 : 8/7/2018 6:23 pm : link
and he's shown he can hit for power. He should be batting 4th or 5th.

I would prefer to bat Judge 3rd behind Stanton, but I have no problem with him batting 2nd.

I think Sanchez should be higher. Maybe something like:

Hicks
Torres
Judge
Stanton
Sanchez
Bird
Andujar
Didi
Gardner

It's definitely much more fun to think of lineups that have both Judge and Sanchez in them compared to our everyday now though.
I dont care the line up...

If El Gary gets his mojo back, absolutely - this is really the .217 version I'm penciling in there, but if he comes back and starts hitting like he has in the past, obviously you have to push that bat up a few spots.

Excellent lineup when Judge and Sanchez are healthy, though - just gotta get those guys back. Especially Judge. His presence is definitely missed right now - you can feel the hole in the lineup where 99 should be.
I agree
adamg : 8/7/2018 7:24 pm : link
Judge is the heart of this team.

Torres
Judge
Stanton
Sanchez
Bird
Andujar
Didi

That is if Boone/management actually plays guys and doesn't give guys days off just because. Also, most teams don't like having lefty lefty in their lineup like Didi and Gardner or having 3 of the last 4 batters bat lefty.

Something like this would be more likely:

Hicks
Torres
Judge
Stanton
Didi
Sanchez
Bird
Andujar
Gardner

Offense needs to wake up. Lopez has been awful lately.

In other MLB News...

Matt Carpenter homered again tonight. I believe that's 15 since July 1st. He's hitting like .340 with a 1.200+ OPS in that span.

This guy had a .579 OPS at the end of April and now he leads the entire NL with a .984 OPS.

Insane turnaround.

And as I am typing this, fucking Engel steals ANOTHER HR from us... and does another fucking hat salute afterwards.

Unbelievable.

Instead of strike em out throw em out DP 1st and 2nd no out.

But CC got squeezed on that pitch earlier and screwed out of a strike him out/throw him out double play.

Nice bounce back to get out of the inning but that call cost him some valuable pitches.

From Didi and Torres are atrocious.
How was Bird ever
section125 : 8/7/2018 9:59 pm : link
decreed by Cashman as the best hitter in the organization? Swings at a pitch that was never a strike and traveled 58 feet.
3 of the worst at bats by people considered good hitters...
Bird going around on a pitch in the dirt
mattnyg05 : 8/7/2018 9:59 pm : link
because he’s cheating since he can’t catch up to a fastball.

If he doesn’t get it together soon it could be an issue for them.

Yeah that's the key AB in the inning. He gets the run home it takes the pressure off of everyone following him and puts more on Lopez.

I get wanting a pitch up so you can drive it to the outfield for at worst a sac fly, but he's got to lay off one that high.

Didi is a low ball hitter as are most lefties. He had no business swinging at that pitch. No plate discipline.

Agreed. In that spot you have to up your plate discipline. It's the pitcher who's in trouble, and you can't help him out. Just zone a pitch and let it rip. If it's not there, let it go.
