39 tough pitches vs the Sox Sunday night. He'll be good to go tomorrow no doubt.
Credit to Sonny for actually getting it done.

Agreed. Tip of the cap to him and hopefully this gives him some confidence and something to build on. I have a feeling we're gonna need him some more before the season's done.

Yeah but the days off before don't help when he throws two games worth of pitches in one game, and all in high leverage situations too.

I'm sure if he threw half as many Sunday night, he'd have been in there tonight. 39 big pitches is a lot for a closer.
geez - Aaron Boone is aging like 5 years per month on this gig.

Ugly wins count in the standings as much as the great ones...
Dunedin81 : 8/8/2018 8:45 am : link
We don't play a .500 team for the next three and a half weeks. We can win ugly as long as we win, and we start putting distance between us and the teams fighting for the second wildcard.
Nice moment for Sonny Gray

his curve looked really sharp last night and I appreciated the emotion shown after getting the final out.

It's a grind right now, these aren't pretty wins, but they just need to find a way to get that winning feeling back.

Time for Severino to get back on track tonight and give the bullpen a rest. This is a good team to do it against.

I'm happy for Gray - maybe this is a better niche for him and he'll help us down the stretch. We really won that game because of him and the length he was able to provide out of the pen at that point in the game. I was pretty pissed about the laughing when he walked off the mound following that embarrassment vs BAL, but it was hard not to get pumped for him after he got that last out last night.

I'm mildly concerned about Chappy's knee. Might be barking again (or just didn't really stop). It's obvious that they're avoiding using him when they think they can get him a night off and 2 of his last 5 outings have been rough. Hopefully he's fine - as good as the pen is, he's still a vital piece.

Frustrating fucking game but hey, the win counts all the same. Let's bring out the brooms tonight.
I don't care about aesthetics

They simply need wins, period, to stay afloat until Sanchez and Judge return.
Yep definitely a win is a win
Stu11 : 8/8/2018 12:18 pm : link
and I'm glad it worked out well for Sonny. Chances are very good that we will need him in some role down the stretch, most likely starting because its doubtful we will keep everyone healthy or not at least want to rest someone for a start or 2. This team has to change their offensive approach though. I guess it may not be possible at this point due to guys set in their ways, but we simply will have a hard time competing in big playoff games letting starters sit at 80 pitches in the 7th or 8th. We are swinging from the heels way too much. Like I said it may be a moot point but something needs to give. Judge will help that as he's very patient. For anyone who wants to put him out to pasture, Gardy is so valuable. First of all he's a CF playing LF and especially late in the game in a big spot we have no better guy at working counts and putting up a great AB.
