Mayfield is really easy to take down. Thomas could have ended his season right there if he wanted. Funny getting thrown like a doll was the mercy play.
or wrongly, I don't think the Giants would have ever drafted Mayfield. He doesn't fit their size requirements for the position, and he had too many on and off the field incidents. Nothing major, but too much for the #2 pick.
Well, 1st overall pick compared to 3rd round pick.
We've seen 1st round picks bust and this 3rd round pick has a year on Mayfield in the NFL. I know he was a backup, but still, he also gets to learn from one of the best on a daily basis.
First down, Mayfield.
Two things going against Webb: 3rd round AND spread offense. A lot of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round guys that had success (Garapolo, Wilson, and Cousins) were pro-style QB's in college.
Also, alot of people scoffed at the idea of Mayfield being picked so high.
Certainly, jury is still out as this is just one pre-season game, but it's a good start for him. His lack of height, which could be an issue, wasn't an issue tonight.
RE: Yeah, don't let people forget how many laughed at Mayfield
as a high pick. And certainly this game is proof of nothing, but he's ahead of the learning curve.
agreed. Many of us were laughed at for preferring him over Rosen/Darnold/Allen. Who knows what the future will hold but I still maintain that his accuracy is a bigger slam dunk than the other prospects..who cares if hes short.
Between Mayfield and Webb. This is Mayfield's FIRST NFL action, and while Webb hasn't had much, but he's been in the league long enough he should be ahead. He's not.
Mayfield was the first overall pick for a reason. It's not really fair to compare the two.
Webb's been in the league for a year he should be ahead.
I'd be crapping my pants that he's going to get hurt, even as impressive as he is.
Then again, we have a backup who couldn't hit Shaq from 3 yards out. Even if he looks durable.
Lauletta already looks to be much more accurate - on 2 throws
That's the concern with Mayfield. Is he going to stay behind the LOS when he scrambles, or regularly become a runner? If the latter, then he risks being hammered like RGIII, especially at his size.
He didn't play, he shadowed. He also had a different skillset with a different set of challenges, they're not really comparable.
Mayfield didn't play either! He was in college last year. Mayfield was a first overall pick and Webb was a project, BUT Webb has a YEAR ON HIM, ffs. A year of practicing and working with PROs. Mayfield doesn't.
Webb is bigger, and has a way stronger arm than Mayfield. But Mayfield has a good arm, is more accurate, gets football intrinsically, and LOOKS like the 1st round QB in his first outing. Webb looks like a career backup in his second preseason.
I bet Lauletta plays better tonight with a lesser skill set.
I'm not sticking a fork in Webb yet, but he's been BRUTAL tonight.

Saquon Barkley on 39-yard run: "The offensive line did a great job of creating space and creating a hole.'' Barkley said TE Evan Engram "did an unbelievable job of blocking on the backside.''
I was just thinking if he eventually goes on to replace Eli I could take my old Dave Brown #17 jersey out of the closet and attach his name over Brown's on the back lol

Its way too early to claim anything really. Same goes for Mayfield and Lauletta. Also remember the coaches see these guys in practice every day, so that affects things too.
I'm rooting for him too. Lauletta too.

He's in now.
His fake "look how excited I am about sports!" voice and patronizing questions always annoyed me

Can be called on every play. They probably won't call it much.
And a nicer, more accurate pass.

Impossible, I heard Evan Engram can't block.
It took Webb 10 attempts to complete 3 passes.
Well, I don't think we lose our seventh round pick if we cut him.

LOL Are you trolling?
