Mayfield didn't play either! He was in college last year. Mayfield was a first overall pick and Webb was a project, BUT Webb has a YEAR ON HIM, ffs. A year of practicing and working with PROs. Mayfield doesn't.
Webb is bigger, and has a way stronger arm than Mayfield. But Mayfield has a good arm, is more accurate, gets football intrinsically, and LOOKS like the 1st round QB in his first outing. Webb looks like a career backup in his second preseason.
I bet Lauletta plays better tonight with a lesser skill set.
I'm not sticking a fork in Webb yet, but he's been BRUTAL tonight.
Mayfield was a 5th year Senior that had 3.5 years starting in college. He played in a spread like Webb, but he played for Lincoln Riley who uses a lot of modern pro concepts. Webb is a project with a redshirt year in a completely different system, he's still very green. We need to take the preseason puff pieces with a grain of salt, he's a midround project while Mayfield was a #1 overall with much more experience. This is not an apples to apples comparison.
But he looks really unnatural to the eye test. I'm a believer that you don't teach accuracy, and he looked terrible at that tonight, but like many said - he might have been amped to get reps or whatever.
Just a very poor showing for Webb - which looks worse when Lauletta comes in and immediately looks accurate
Mayfield looks awesome!! If I were OBJ I’d want to go to the Browns Â

Webb's mechanics are bad, something that shouldn't be the case a year into the NFL
RE: Other than Stewart all of our RBs have looked great Â
The practice I saw Webb made Lauletta look outmatched. Webb looked terrible tonight. He looked clunky, mechanical and his throwing fundamentals were terrible- the opposite of practice. Obviously if he can’t translate to game action he won’t be here long. Let’s be a little patient.
...before Mayfield is named the starter?
One?
Two?
Three at most?

haha.
I'll take him here
DUH I know that...are you finished with Webb?

Yeah. They're in a good spot, because Taylor looked quite good as well.
They may be able to trade Taylor for a decent pick if they decide to start Mayfield.
I think it was Orion Stewart
Yep, he’s still got it.
First round talent, but a lot of character questions.

He just got pinched again too, I think he failed a drug test.

Joking aside, Webb looks pretty bad. I don’t know what he lacks can be learned.
Yep... the guy showed his magic at Oklahoma. Looks the same as a Pro. Looks like Browns finally made the right pick!!!

Stewart is just brutally slow. Like out of the league slow.
That's a WIN.

He supposedly has this insane work ethic, but he may not know what he should work on.
