throw by Mayfield.
Terrible tackling and coverage...

I meant..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/9/2018 9:25 pm : link
Lauletta looked more accurate than Webb, not Mayfield!
Why
David B. : 8/9/2018 9:26 pm : link
Is Zak DeOssie still in the game making tackles on ST? Don't they know what he's capable of? Get another long snapper some work before ZD gets hurt.
How many more days in Cleveland...
M.S. : 8/9/2018 9:26 pm : link

...before Mayfield is named the starter?

One?

Two?

Three at most?
That's the definition of 'hit in stride'. Lead the receiver.

Poor Tyrod Taylor

awful job by the safety
Jay on the Island : 8/9/2018 9:27 pm : link
Orion Stewart was to blame there.

Yeah. They're in a good spot, because Taylor looked quite good as well.

They may be able to trade Taylor for a decent pick if they decide to start Mayfield.
That Mayfield pass
Giant John : 8/9/2018 9:27 pm : link
Was for all the lame dopes that questioned hi ark strength. Always a Giant fan but I’ve liked Mayfields game for a long time.
Basile missed that tackle
jeff57 : 8/9/2018 9:27 pm : link
.?
Mayfield has been very impressive
Jay on the Island : 8/9/2018 9:28 pm : link
His pocket mobility and awareness are very advanced. His eyes are always downfield.
Mayfield seems like a QB
slickwilly : 8/9/2018 9:28 pm : link
that is not going to benefit by sitting a year. They need to play the guy. He is a baller.
Ark =

Right

now, the talent gulf between Eli and every other QB is the football equivalent of the distance from the Earth to the Moon.
Callaway is the next Josh Gordon
dep026 : 8/9/2018 9:29 pm : link
loved him Florida. He is a day away from being suspended and banned, but he is very, very good.
Why are they taking it out?
Simms11 : 8/9/2018 9:29 pm : link
Poor return decision again .......Quinn?

First round talent, but a lot of character questions.
They're not comparable

Mayfield didn't play either! He was in college last year. Mayfield was a first overall pick and Webb was a project, BUT Webb has a YEAR ON HIM, ffs. A year of practicing and working with PROs. Mayfield doesn't.

Webb is bigger, and has a way stronger arm than Mayfield. But Mayfield has a good arm, is more accurate, gets football intrinsically, and LOOKS like the 1st round QB in his first outing. Webb looks like a career backup in his second preseason.

I bet Lauletta plays better tonight with a lesser skill set.

I'm not sticking a fork in Webb yet, but he's been BRUTAL tonight.

Mayfield was a 5th year Senior that had 3.5 years starting in college. He played in a spread like Webb, but he played for Lincoln Riley who uses a lot of modern pro concepts. Webb is a project with a redshirt year in a completely different system, he's still very green. We need to take the preseason puff pieces with a grain of salt, he's a midround project while Mayfield was a #1 overall with much more experience. This is not an apples to apples comparison.
Lauletta!

He just got pinched again too, I think he failed a drug test.
Of..
FatMan in Charlotte : 8/9/2018 9:32 pm : link
course not:

But he looks really unnatural to the eye test. I'm a believer that you don't teach accuracy, and he looked terrible at that tonight, but like many said - he might have been amped to get reps or whatever.

Just a very poor showing for Webb - which looks worse when Lauletta comes in and immediately looks accurate
Mayfield looks awesome!! If I were OBJ I’d want to go to the Browns
Jim in Hoboken : 8/9/2018 9:33 pm : link
too.

Joking aside, Webb looks pretty bad. I don’t know what he lacks can be learned.
Callaway is such a great athlete
jeff57 : 8/9/2018 9:33 pm : link
That he can light up a joint while running down the field and not break stride.
So it’s very early, but if the Browns don’t
Beezer : 8/9/2018 9:33 pm : link
start Mayfield Game 1 ... oy.
I honestly feel bad for Webb
BestFeature : 8/9/2018 9:35 pm : link
He seems like a good guy that works extremely hard. He just might not have it at this level.

Yep... the guy showed his magic at Oklahoma. Looks the same as a Pro. Looks like Browns finally made the right pick!!!

Webb's mechanics are bad, something that shouldn't be the case a year into the NFL

Stewart is just brutally slow. Like out of the league slow.
Webb
AcidTest : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link
tonight looked like a pitcher who throws 95 mph but can't find the plate.
Lauletta may not have the biggest arm
David B. : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link
But when he throws the ball, it goes to where the receiver can catch it and make a play.

That's a WIN.
Positives so far...
Simms11 : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link
Run D and Run O. Specials coverage has been good. First team Oline was OK too.
Lauletta's arm looks a little stronger than I expected
Jay on the Island : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link
If he can find away to add more velocity to his throws then we might have something here.
Webb just doesn't look fluid with his movements...
GFAN52 : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link
too mechanical.
The Browns 3rd string QB is now in
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/9/2018 9:36 pm : link

Mayfield should be done for the night
santacruzom : 8/9/2018 9:37 pm : link
It would be so Brownsian to keep him in for no reason whatsoever and have him hurt himself.

Dave on the UWS : 8/9/2018 9:41 pm : link
The practice I saw Webb made Lauletta look outmatched. Webb looked terrible tonight. He looked clunky, mechanical and his throwing fundamentals were terrible- the opposite of practice. Obviously if he can’t translate to game action he won’t be here long. Let’s be a little patient.
